Rihanna's Record Breaking Umbrella, ella, ella, eh, eh, eh #1 Worldwide

you sure are generous. she'll be forgotten in the next five years if not sooner. even though she might be a nice girl with above avarage looks she posses very little talent. what people fail to understand is that her "music" has really nothing to do with her. any pretty model who can carry a tune would do just as well with the material.

lord enough with Rhianna. with the horrible obsession with this girl. in 10 years, she will be forgotten. just like most popstars. *cough*n'sync*cough*

All the haters saying that Rihanna wont be around in 5 years well, in the latest issue of Paper Mag, Rihanna tells them that she wants to be the next Madonna. And how long has Madonna lasted? Rihanna is always reinventing her self.

because she wants to be like Madonna doesnt mean she will. Madonna is still around because she can sing and she knows how to put on a show. She also was very shocking and out there back in here first years that solidified her in the industry. Rhianna hasnt done much to stand out from EVERY other pop star out there.

LOL well prepare for another week of rain because UMBRELLA is ahead in the midweeks which mean she will be number 1 again equaling the all time UK record set by Gnarls Barkley with "Crazy."

So why cant you give her a chance? Why the hate? Rihanna is determined to succeed and she is no one hot wonder. Ri Ri is here to stay so get used to it. She has ambition and goals and most important and inner drive and determination to succeed in this tough business.

Can't wait for her to get her Grammy next year (!), that will solidify her in the music industry/business and shut up most haters.

she is not going to get a Grammy, she may want to but her stuff sounds like all the rest of the pop stars out there. she is no one hit wonder but she doesnt have staying power. one thing that makes a artist stay in the industry is being able to invent new things and sounds to contribute to music and she hasnt done that.

i dont hate Rhianna. I congratulate her for all her success, but your fanatacism with her is so annoying. You almost sound like a religious fundie, but it is your choice so thats why I didn't attack you for it.

...newboy? You OK? You haven't posted in this thread in almost six hours...FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, SPEAK TO US!!!

Even if "Umbrella" can stay afloat at No.1 for an 8th week doesn't mean the song will end the year on a high note.

Take for instance Avril Lavigne's "Girlfriend." That song spent only one week at No. 1 but accumulated an astonishing 18 weeks total in the Billboard Top 10. THAT is what the chart scopers will look at in late November when it comes time to mapping out the top hits of the year.

Even Nelly Furtado's "Say It Right," which was only No. 1 for one week is a bigger hit for 2007 than "Umbrella." Furtado's February smash was in the Top 10 for 14 weeks!

So far, Rihanna's duet with Jay-Z has been in the Top 10 for only 7 weeks.

Re: Grammys in 2008? She's not eligible for pop female and is overpowered by heavyweights in R&B (actual divas that can sing). She might get her first nomination in the dance category ... that one is always passed out before the actual program begins anyways.

Huh?

Be in the top 10 for 14 weeks or be number one for 7 weeks (so far 7 weeks)?

Easy choice for me.

Umbrella is getting sort of old now, I like Rihanna herself she has style but this song gets annoying after hearing it like 7 weeks in a row. Why is it still No1 over here? It's good, but not that good. SOS was better.

I wouldn't be so sure. In 1966 (I think), the number one single of the year was "Wooly Bully" by Sam the Sham & the Pharaohs. You know how many weeks that song sat at number one? Zero. It never even made it to #1. Similarly, I believe Tag Team's "Whoomp! There It Is" was the number one song of that year without ever making it to #1 either.

That said, unless the song REALLY crashes and burns on the charts in the next several weeks (and there's no reason to think it will), or unless another amazingly huge song comes along, I'd say it's pretty well assured status of #1 song of 2007. Is that fantastic news for Rihanna? I don't know - ask Sam the Sham. Or Tag Team.

But if my theory is correct, I doubt that'll matter to NB. :)

R&B singer Rihanna’s hit Umbrella is set to become the longest-running number one single for more than a decade, according to reports.Music Week magazine said the track, which features rapper Jay-Z, is likely to top the chart for a tenth week.

The last song to spend more than nine weeks at number one was Wet Wet Wet’s Love Is All Around in 1994.

Meanwhile, Britain’s Got Talent winner Paul Potts is set to top the album chart with his debut One Chance.
The album, which was released on Monday, is outselling its nearest rival The Enemy by five to one.

HMV spokesman Gennaro Castaldo said: “It’s incredible how TV can take a complete unknown artist and catapult him to overnight chart success.”

Potts, 36, was a mobile phone salesman before finding fame on the TV talent show.

“It’s unbelievable. Four weeks ago I was in the store selling phones,” he said.

Last week Rihanna, 19, announced her first major UK arena tour.

Way to go Rihanna, breaking more records, come on UK you can do it (!)

Ella, ella, ay, ay, ay (!)

It hasn't sold them many though...if you take into account how many weeks she has been on the chart

No1 for coming up to 10 weeks. A few weeks on downloads prior. And yet it has done 350,000 overall. And selling less and less each week. Around 20,000 last week apparently

It shows how slow the UK chart is at the moment. No major releases have happened in weeks.

For a song which has spent so long at No1, it should have sold a few more copies than it has.

LOVE THE ALBUM THOUGH :D

^ I know the album rocks. No fillers, its a solid album. I really want Ri Ri to get the UK all time record though, that would be beyond incredible. She and Umbrella will go down in music history, foreva, eva, eva, eh, eh ,eh LOL

dont the beatles have the all time record in the UK?

ah i guess it was only time till they would be surpassed. it has been a long time since they were around.

Rhianna definately wont last pass 16 weeks. if she does than i will admit that she has a chance of a long and prosperous career.

I dont know what you people are talking about but there is a new 10 week record at steak and thats the one Rihanna is going for next week. She is currently tied with "Crazy" by Gnarls Barkley for 9 consecutive weeks at number 1.
