Vice President JD Vance widely cast blame as he responded Thursday to reporters' questioning about an Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer’s fatal shooting of Minneapolis woman Renee Good, a 37-year-old mother of three.

Yesterday, the VP gave a press conference in which he said that the woman who was shot in Minneapolis was a terrorist who deserved to be murdered and that it was her own fault.
He lied. Repeatedly. He is part of an Administration headed by a man who has normalized lying. Vance has fully embraced fascism and his press conference demonstrated 5 of the key traits of a fascism.
2. Political power derived from questioning reality, endorsing myth and rage, and promoting lies.
Appearing in the White House briefing room, the vice president's voice rose as he decried what he called the "corporate media" for its coverage.
"This was an attack on law and order. This was an attack on the American people," said Vance, who maintained it has not been portrayed that way by many journalists.
According to Vance, the problem is not an incompetent officer who was part of a police action on the streets of America. The problem is that the media is the enemy of the people.
5. Disdain for human rights while seeking purity and cleansing for those they define as part of the nation.
Vance said the ICE officer was clearly justified in shooting Good and he was not worried about prejudging an investigation that is just getting underway.
Vance, pushing another fascist trope, said that the problem is that the unarmed woman, who was exercising her Constitutional rights to free speech and protest, was part of a left wing conspiracy against "law and order". The leftists are also "the enemy of the people".
6. Identification of “enemies”/scapegoats as a unifying cause. Imprison and/or murder opposition and minority group leaders.
10. Obsession with national security, crime and punishment, and fostering a sense of the nation under attack.
"The way that the media, by and large, has reported this story has been an absolute disgrace," he added. "And it puts our law enforcement officers at risk every single day."
Vance said the ICE officer was clearly justified in shooting Good and he was not worried about prejudging an investigation that is just getting underway.
"What you see is what you get in this case," Vance said, downplaying ambiguity about the circumstances that led to the shooting.
The officer was clearly acting in self-defense, Vance said. He framed Good as "a victim of left-wing ideology" who was spurred by an alleged network of politically motivated groups to interfere with law enforcement.
"I can believe that her death is a tragedy while also recognizing that it is a tragedy of her own making," Vance said.
Vance is saying, with absolutely no evidence, that murdering Mrs Good was justified (#6) because she was a leftist (#6) and an "enemy of the people" (#10). By impeding ICE officers who were rounding up people and abducting them off the streets of Minneapolis (#10), Mrs Good deserved to get shot in the face and killed.
14. Rampant cronyism and corruption. Loyalty to the leader is paramount and often more important than competence.
It used to be that "the cover-up is worse than the crime". Under Trump and the Trumpian Republican Party, the cover-up is the point. These are not politicians reciting talking points. These are Republicans whose sole purpose is to lie, cover-up the rampant corruption and incompetence of Trump's Administration and to repeatedly dispense pablum that begins with the phrase, "Thanks to this President...".
Trump doesn't need Republicans in Congress to pass legislation. He needs them to be propagandists and to lie to cover-up what Trump's Administration is doing.
Trump once said that he could shoot someone on 5th Avenue and he would get away with it.
Now, Trump could shoot someone on 5th Avenue and the White House Press Office would stand at the podium of the White House Press Room and praise Trump for being a "strong President". Incompetent goons like JD Vance would say that Trump was the "best shooter in the world" and that he shot someone "to keep America safe". Co-conspirators like Vance and Mike Johnson would attack the media as the "enemy of the people", because the media had dared to ask why it was okay for the President to shoot someone.
