Robin Roberts, Jason Collins,Derrick Gordon, Michael Sam dating white gays why?

Look maybe for you since you are white think this is funny BUT when you are from a marginalized community and see people from your race follow the white standard it is very disappointing. I don't think white gay people understand my point of view. It would be MORE empowering to the black community gay or straight if these black public figures had BLACK partners. I don' think Lex truly understands what it means to be ostracized.

I'm not a white gay person yet you've ignored all my responses in the thread.... while complaining that "people are refusing to take a nuanced view." Apparently that's code for "not accepting my view that all black gay men who dare to date anything but other black men are doing it for social fringe benefits."

Another thing a lot of these out black gays believe sleeping white means they become white.

I have never met, talked to or even HEARD of any black person ever saying that they believed they could become white. Ever. Not even Michael Jackson said it even though many accused him of believing it.

Where are all these black people who think they can become white?

I did it boss. Got my white boy an my bleach. Joined the KKK. Fun times.

I know you're trying to be pesudo-funny and all, but you do come across very much as someone who feels better about themselves because they're dating a white guy.

3 things cause interracial dating among gay men, either...

1. "white is right" mentality

or

2. color-blind love. this ain't the 1950s anymore

or

3. homophobia, black American culture is annoyingly rooted in pseudo-Christian values. if you're out and want to date another black person, your options are few as many are still hiding because their fathers are preachers and mothers are choir directors who won't respond too kindly when you tell them why you've never had a gf for more than 3 days. I imagine the options are fewer for out gay black celebs which account for, what, .00000000000009% of the US population?

I don't know these guys personally so I can't guess their reasons, but, by numbers, as I said above, if you're an out gay black celebrity your options are virtually non-existent.

this. this. and so much this. especially points 2 and 3.

so many smart, eloquent fuckers on this site. ..|

No reasonable person of good will could interpret anything I've said that way. But I'm not really interested in justifying my blackness to you stranger. I am, was, and will presumably always be weakly identified with the black portion of my ancestry.

What would Madonna do?

(Also I must say that my husband is white and every penis I've ever touched, other than my own, has been attached to a white guy.)

And when I say my husband is white, I mean WHITE like the color of milk with splashes of pink or even angry red here or there and eyes the color of the bluest water, my Logan, my beloved Logan. And lips like rosebuds fallen down into the pale beauty of his face.

awww...aren't you blessed to have such a God?

Also, in my experience the number of guys who were/are willing to date/fuck me was way higher than all those "No Blacks. No Asians. I'm not racist." profiles made me think--admittedly lots of those guys were yanking down my zipper while telling me how ugly most other members of "my ethnic group" are, but really, no one's perfect...

Is there something *wrong* with preferring white guys? (Once again I do not, but I'm curious.)

...and you were just so happy to be the one black guy they would go outside of their standards for, huh? LUCKY you.

This word prefer. My husband "prefers" white men tbh. A lot of good it did him. I do not have racial preferences and have never touched a non-Caucasian penis. Life is weird.

lol...you JUST made it in.

dude you are preaching to the wrong choir with parts of this. When I discovered how deeply uninterested most gay men were in black men, I spent literal years as a suicidal mess. I'm only 24, but I've "been through it" as far as this race and beauty shit.

:(

Even though there are lots of black people where I grew up/live now. There were relatively few black guys who:

1. I found attractive.
2. Were good all around *prospects* (spoke standard English, had jobs, etc---even for hookups stuff like this matters)
3. Were interested in me. (An no offense to anyone, this does not include really dark guys who are going to make my "light" skin a fetish, you know they exist, lol)

 I was not at all surprised to find that you're one of those black guys who think they're "better/more attractive" because they're light-skinned.

I think your attitude towards men of your own race shine through much more than YOU think.

Self awareness is a beautiful thing.

Don't be the example that Morrissey is shooting for.

If you were in a gay bar in the U.S. that magically represented all races equally, and it had 150 guys in it, this would be the crowd:

95 white guys
20 black guys
2 Native American guys
8 Asian guys
25 Latino guys

If you were in Canada (as Morrissey is), this would be the crowd:

115 white guys
4 black guys
7 Native American guys
21 Asian guys
2 Latino guys

But I'm sure this has utterly nothing to do with the fact that gay minority guys aren't exclusively seen with their own group. Nothing at all.

Dating is a numbers game. If you are one of those non-white guys in the bar and you are hellbent on only talking to other members of your group, look at what you've just done to your prospects.

I still don't see the problem chief. But have fun being weirdly obnoxious.

Also there's a dependent clause, just for clarity, to anyone other than Gentleheart who might take offense to that dark guys thing. I mean specific kind of dark skinned guy who alternately fetishizes/punishes fairer skinned blacks. Not every, not most, not even a lot--but enough guys in the US are like this. Chase you for being lighter than them, then punish you because black culture/the USA/Gay culture are colorist.

You mean spot on in my observations? I'll take it. :)

btw, I did what Madonna would (probably) do.

Like I said...self awareness is a beautiful thing.

Gentleheart I'm sure you're a great guy; but the idea of thinking I have some "issue" with black people is...well...laughable, like seriously. The amount of time, money, and energy I spend on young LGBTQ people of color is huge. So go suck an egg. Or my dick if you're cute an the Beautiful Go of My Idolatry (who happens to be you know, white) says it's ok.

This is exactly what was said earlier in this thread; I think by yours truly.

If you add to this statement the fact that many black men refuse to/or cannot come out then there are your prime reasons why black men are dating white men.

I can see a person's colour being part of the reasons for dating them but I can't believe the majority of gay men choose their partners solely on this basis.

My fucking dddddddd's don't work.

What the OP is saying is that there aren't any powerful black, gay couples in the media. There also seems to be a disproportionate number of blacks in entertainment who go white which doesn't necessarily reflect America at large. In American society due to the history and whites being the majority, some people have been conditioned to believe that white is better. Whether or not the public figures mentioned feel that way or not isn't known, but it's not out of the realm of possibility and it's annoying that there isn't a balance.

I don't think the OP was trying to say that. That makes too much sense.
