What a fantastic piece of news to awaken to. The news over here is going bat-shit crazy, although it seems that Moore at the time of typing is refusing to admit defeat.

Roy Moore is not a class act . A concession speech, if and when it comes, will be a diatribe of blaming anyone but himself. He is a poor man's Donald Trump, like without the money or a hot wife, but still the embodiment of the conservative values of misogyny, molestation, narcissism, racism, while being devoid of impulse control. He even fucks himself by opening his big mouth a LOT.. A huge plus for the base. He evidently has no capacity for introspection. I'm sure he is confused as to why the whole chasing teenage girls, generally, and assaulting one or more in particular....why this is a BIG DEAL. Alabamans of all stripe and Blacks, Gays, Jews, Native Americans, Women across America and the Republican Party dodged a bullet tonight. If a Republican in a Jim Crow State, endorsed by POTUS can be defeated, then 2018 midterms may be very interesting.

I refuse to allow myself to be hopeful while the king of deception is in the oval office...

Oh, I realize and appreciate it was an amazing victory but still, I'd feel better if he wins in 2020 against a more conventional "conservative". Was this REALLY a seismic shift, or was it more about "Moore" than anything else? Sessions voting record was awful and Luther Strange was not much different but they didn't have the toxicity and outsized persona of a Roy Moore. But at least it reduces the GOP margin of control down to 51 in the Senate. I am glad and grateful for the turnout against Moore and for Jones but I'm still very cautious that this signals a trend in Alabama... though the white voters may not be as monolithically conservative anymore as in the big cities and suburbs the more educated professionals tended more for Jones, in surprisingly competitive numbers. We'll have to see if this really does represent an opening for Alabama's future...it would be a welcome one with them joining with the strongly Democratic African American vote there to form at least a competitive opening for Democrats.

A recount is called for only if the margin is 0.5% or less, and the margin was around 1.5% for, Thank Our Stars, the person who needed to win.

No, Moore isn't some kind of usurper. He's been elected to the courts twice, he was nominated by the Republicans in the primary, he was promoted by the party machine, and then - child molester - and they still didn't abandon him. The signals that "trend" in Alabama is that a Democrat could get elected AT ALL, which is frankly a huge fucking shift away from the status quo. Moore didn't HAVE to be nominated now did he, the'Pubs in the fantasy pit thought they could do whatever the fuck they wanted and Alabama would just suck it the fuck up.

We don't have to see anything, the fact that it happened is fucking amazing. WILL it meant that the South will turn blue? THAT is up to the Dems, who for years and years have said fuck off to the South and done nothing but piss on all of us.

The opening is there, lets see what the Democrats make of it.

I doubt there's going to be a recount, no one wants him in the Senate, not even the 'Pubs. The Alabama Secretary of State has already said he doesn't have any reason to challenge the election, so, Moore would have to sue and demonstrate fraud, and then prove it.

So, now, Mitch McConnell is saying that they won't seat Jones until the next session in January.
