Russian Invasion of Ukraine

I sure hope you are right. Trump is bringing 20 thousand troops home from Europe so there is hope. You may be right about the Saudis also as it seems they will up production with the coming loss of Canadian oil.

Trump is a fucking moron acting like he's the Mob and European countries are small businesses he can get to pay 'protection' money.

I think Mossad needs to present Trump with a phone.

Europe should pay for their protection. Why should American taxpayers pay for it? The best thing would be for the US to pull out of Western Europe.

Russia is still the enemy of America. Agreed?
Having bases close to the enemy, gives a military advantage to America.
We are glad to have American bases in Europe because Russia is our enemy too.
Even if that were not the case, America would still want to keep the bases to deter the enemy.
It is in Russia's interests to reduce US reach in any way it can so a US pullout is just what Mr Putin would like.
A president who does what benefits Russia instead of what benefits his own country is known as a traitor.
In saner times, such a person would be face a firing squad.

Americans aren't good at history. Their short memories are both a feature and a bug.

One of the reason that America has kept influence in certain countries is to prevent a vacuum. Countries like China, Iran and Russia love a vacuum. If America isn't your friend, China, Iran and Russia will be. It's how America ended up with nukes 90 miles off their shores in the 1960s.

America is in Europe to protect vital American interests. Although increasingly, it looks like Americans don't see that these assets and interests need protection.

Corporate oligarchy is so multi-national that nations and sovereignty of peoples is an antiquated concept. Just like the run-up to WWI and WWII.

Trump's oligarchs's interests and Rzzzn oligarchs interests became so entwined in the last 2 decades that it set the stage for the rise of fascism globally and the opening of the new age of Imperial colonialism in order to seize strategic resources.

China and to some extent, India are still wild cards.

If they decide that there is a threat to their own ascendancy, the conflict may arise from a nationalist as well as a corporate clash of agendas.

You might be surprised to find out how many right wing republicans in the US do not see rrrZZZia as an enemy.

This:

...A 45 minute call between Trump and Frederiksen last week spiraled into confrontation, senior European officials told the Financial Times. Trump, at that time the president-elect, was reportedly aggressive and threatened tariffs against the NATO ally...

Was not part of anyone's conspiracy. Toad yelling at Denmark trying to bully them into selling Greenland helps no oligarchs. They stuck their collective finger on the sale, but they are not in control of the crazy. Indiscriminate use of tariffs brings the economy to a halt and their profits go with it.

It's what happened last time, it's probably what's in storee.

The U.S. is paying for protection of the U.S. The U.S. has foes on the Eurasian landmass, so having U.S. troops and bases there is a way of telling those foes, "Go ahead -- make my day!"
That Europe also benefits is a nice bonus because they are U.S. allies.

Only a second-grader mindset would say, "Do it my way or I'll take my toys and go home!" That this is just counterproductive is something most people learn by the time they're ten.

When I lived in Miami all the Cubans understood this. That the GOP has forgotten is astounding.
The GOP is dead. It died with McCain. The right is outright Fascist now, no more quibbling or obfuscation. It's why they have no problem with Putin.

I met one -- a local official -- who wants to see Ukraine beat the tar out of Russia so that the U.S. can get deals to invest in eastern Russia, or better yet get everything east of the Urals to become a new country that U.S. interests could dominate.

It died before then; McCain was just a final spasm before the body finally shut down.

Or want to see Russia crumble so they can take over what's west of the Urals -- not just for the wealth but so China can't grab it.

Some news stories are starting to come out about what happens when religious cult soldiers are sent into war. North Korean soldiers fighting in Ukraine are blowing themselves up with grenades to avoid capture.

The Pentagon might want to pay attention.

Detonating a grenade under the chin rather than being captured. Using a fellow soldier to lure out attack drones. Removing body armor plates and helmets to enable faster attacks on foot. Writing pledges of allegiance to North Korea’s Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un.

These are the brutal and near-suicidal tactics of North Korean soldiers, who have, since November, been deployed to repel Ukraine’s incursion in the southern Russian border region of Kursk.

Up to 12,000 North Korean soldiers have been sent to Russia, according to Western intelligence reports, which say around 4,000 troops have been killed or injured.

I have no doubt that Trump is paying attention.

And that he would hire NK mercenaries in a minute to get wants.

Joking aside. Watch for the US armed forces to try to turn dark with more emphasis on suicide squads using Trumpist fanatics by training them that they are making 'murica great again.

Another bad man go boom boom. Apparently, Ukrainians don't like to wait for them to fall out of windows.

A bomb has exploded in the lobby of a luxury apartment block in Moscow, killing a pro-Russia paramilitary leader from eastern Ukraine alongside his bodyguard.

The bomb detonated just as a man with bodyguards entered the lobby of the Scarlet Sails residential complex on the banks of the Moscow River on Monday, Russian media reported.

Russia’s Tass news agency, citing security services, reported that the blast was an attack on Armen Sarkisyan, the head of the boxing federation in Russian-occupied Donetsk and the founder of a battalion fighting against Ukraine. Sarkisyan, who is wanted in Ukraine, has a long history of aiding pro-Russia forces in Ukraine.
