saddest song you ever heard?

"Whiskey Lullaby" - Brad Paisley feat. Alison Krauss

i was compelled to slash my wrists when i heard this song.

I don't know if someone posted this song already, but I love "Nimrod" from Enigma Variations by Elgar. It's a classical piece and it is unbelievable. The piece is versatile, so it could sound happy or sad, depending on how you feel. I find it the perfect "sad" song because there aren't any words, so it's perfect for expressing the most complicated of feelings that can't be described by words.

Leo Sayer had a pretty good sad song... "Sad Eyes"

"Sad eyes turn the other way
I don't wanna see you cry
Sad eyes you knew there'd come a day
When we would have to say goodbye.."

Kills me... cause I really did love the guy! :(
but that's another story...

Anything by Leo Sayer is pretty fucking sad if you ask me.

Tie between Ave Maria and Unchained Melody (the song from Ghost). I cry pretty much every time I hear it.

Very sad song I'm listening to right now, Bryan Adams - The Best Was Yet To Come:cry:   I believe I heard somewhere along the line along time ago that he wrote it about Dorothy Stratten. Which makes it all the sadder I suppose.

Someone else mentioned Kasey Chambers and I thought of another song, that might fit this category in "The Capitain". I find it sad....

"Kasey Chambers - The Captain"

Well I don't have as many friends because
I'm not as pretty as I was
I've kicked myself at times because I've lied
So I will have to learn to stand my ground
I'll tell 'em I won't be around
I'll move on over to your town and hide

And you be the Captain
And I'll be no-one
And you can carry me away if you want to
And you can lay low
Just like your father and if
I tread upon your feet you just say so
'Cos you're The Captain, I am no-one,
I tend to feel as though I owe one to you

Well I have handed all my efforts in
I searched here for my second wind
Is there somewhere here to let me in I asked
So I slammed the doors they slammed at me
I found the place I'm meant to be
I figured out my destiny at last

Did I forget to thank you for the ride
I hadn't tried I tend to runaway and hide

Phil Collins "Against All Odds" always does it for me, especially the line "You're the only one who really knew me at all" That, and his version of "True Colors" can do it too, but for a different reason

I should mention...(this isn't letting me edit my above post :() That's just the Over the Rainbow part of the song, I couldn't find one that also had What a Wonderful World in it as well.

Now I've heard the story behind them, Ten Years today by Bullet for my Valentine, about a friend who shot himself for apparently no reason, and Guernica by Brand New about how helpless the singer felt when a beloved relative had cancer.

Apart from that... Tears, by X Japan?

Ghost of You by MCR?

November Rain? Don't cry? (GnR)
