Sarah Palin's Version of the Ride of Paul Revere

Yes, they were also going to do that too.

no thats all they were doing. Revere had been captured by the brits. He told them there was an army there to scare them away from the idea of marching there, but it did NOT work. The atarget was too tempting.

They were after Adams, and since Revere had met with them in lexington and concord, he knew precisely where they were.

what the fuck does that have to do with Sarah Palin and her retelling of american history?

are ytou really just going to throw mudd here at a political candidate for no point but to distract from your embarrasment of Palin?

You will NEVER change.

That's just our thread derailer at work. He does it in every thread.

Revere, Dawes, and Prescott were detained by a British Army patrol in Lincoln at a roadblock on the way to Concord.[12] Prescott jumped his horse over a wall and escaped into the woods; he eventually reached Concord. Dawes also escaped, though he fell off his horse not long after and did not complete the ride.[19][20]
Revere was captured and questioned by the British soldiers at gunpoint. He told them of the army's movement from Boston, and that British army troops would be in some danger if they approached Lexington, because of the large number of hostile militia gathered there. Everything Revere told his British captors had a single goal, to move the soldiers away from Lexington, where he had left Hancock and Adams. Revere had reason to believe the patrols mission was to arrest the two Whig leaders. He and other captives taken by the patrol were still escorted east toward Lexington, until about a half mile from Lexington they heard a gunshot. The British Major demanded Revere explain the shot, and Revere replied it was a signal to "alarm the Country". A few minutes later came a flurry of shots that seemed to alarm the British captors even beyond the panic they were already in. As the group drew closer to Lexington, the town bell began to clang rapidly, to which one of the captors proclaimed to the British soldiers "The bell's a'ringing! The town's alarmed, and you're all dead men!" The British soldiers gathered and decided not to press further towards Lexington, to instead free the prisoners and to head back to warn their commanders.[21][22][23] The British confiscated Revere's horse, and rode off to warn the approaching army column. Revere was horseless and walked through a cemetery and pastures until he came to Rev. Clarke's house where Hancock and Adams were staying. As the battle on Lexington Green continued, Revere helped John Hancock and his family escape from Lexington with their possessions, including a trunk of Hancock's papers.[20]

they were not after guns or ammo. They were after Adams and Hancock.

Revere was really mostly a fuck up, and he's known most in Boston for the Hammered gold dome of the capital building that he supposedly crafted. When tourists ask for the church we all just groan.

The story is a grammar school fable and Palin has shown that her educational level is at about second grade.

This article explains everything short and sweet.

[[...]Consider that the primary mission of Revere and Dawes was to inform fellow patriots John Hancock and Samuel Adams of the movements of the British Army, which was planning on arresting Hancock and Adams and seizing weapons that had been stored in Concord.

It's most of you who seemed to learn your history from some poem you read in 6th grade.

Palin was telling the true story.

http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/was...alin-says-paul-revere-warned-the-british.html

No, she wasn't -- compare what she said to that article, and all they're doing is defending the accuracy of one small statement -- which, in the context she gave it, is false; she said he rode to warn the British, which he didn't; he only warned the British once he'd screwed up and gotten captured. She said they rang bells to warn the British , which they didn't; they rang it to gather the people, but Revere used it as a warning to the British.

She got it "right" not even as much as someone who thinks the purpose of pawns in chess is to move forward.

Oh, BTW, Palin didn't refer to the Constitution; she referenced deeply-help convictions, derived from British law at the time, concerning militia and the right to keep and bear arms and protect themselves. Her words and the Second Amendment's words have a common origin, so they sound similar.

Why do you groan? Just point them to the Old North Church, where he'd instructed three of the church sextons to hang lanterns, and supposedly two went up, each with a lantern, and one stood watch down below.

Personally... when I was there, I thought it was silly to go see the church -- I wanted to stand on the spot where Revere would have been when the lanterns were lit for the signal.

There is so much more to Hanover street and the north end.

Most people don't realize the old church is now in the heart of Bostons Little Italy. There are so many more relevant things there.

This article explains everything short and sweet.

I found at least five incorrect facts in that article on a quick read through.

Just because its on the internet does not mean its true. You have to have some real source for the assertion.

The truth is little is known but what Adams and Revere later wrote. Their ideas of what were important facts are far different from the GOP agenda of today.

They did not know who or what was in concord and lexington Until Reveres capture and turn as informant.

It was also in the Wikipedia article I linked.

On April 14, 1775, Gage received instructions from Secretary of State William Legge, Earl of Dartmouth, to disarm the rebels, who were known to have hidden weapons in Concord, among other locations, and to imprison the rebellion's leaders, especially Samuel Adams and John Hancock. Dartmouth gave Gage considerable discretion in his commands.[15][16]

He was channeling Cowboy Bob and Molten.

if they were after the weapons, why did they leave when the rebels used weapons to fire on them?

No

Concord was loyal to the crown at that point. They were after Adams and Hancock. He never charged through the streets shooting his gun yelling the brittish were coming.

The Brittish were already there.

Well, I believe two historians from Johns Hopkins and Princeton know what they're talking about.

Of course, this is par for the course. Palin fans want her to be pres, go for it!!

Computerworld - A battle is in full swing on Wikipedia over Sarah Palin and her take on Paul Revere's historical ride.

Late last week, the former Alaskan governor was visiting Boston when she now famously talked about Paul Revere's midnight ride. Instead of mentioning "one if by land or two if by sea" or Revere's ride to warn the colonists that the British were coming, Palin instead said that Revere rode to warn off the British.

Later, Palin made an appearance on Fox News to back up her claim, defiantly saying she was not wrong about Revere.

Now, some of her supporters want to rewrite history to make it reflect Palin's unique version of events. And they have been trying for days to get their changes onto the Paul Revere page on Wikipedia.

There, I fixed it for you.

Are the historians quoted in the article in cahoots with Murdoch? Oh and just so you know, Murdoch sold the paper in 1994. Where the hell do you get your information from?

laika ?

Would you be happy to see Sarah Palin as the next president of The United States ?
