The reason we can trust Obama is that the mortgage-backed securities was Phil Gramm's brainchild. Phil Gramm, McCain's economic adviser.

It is 2008 now. Phil Gramm has not been on McCain team for a while now.

Yeah, his party has such a good record for reduced spending. And McCain voted for 4 out of 5 Bush budgets. But he's turned over a new leaf, right?

Sure. And the mortgage-backed securities idea dates back about nine or ten years. He came up with the idea, and McCain thought so highly of him that he made him his financial adviser.
