Seriously, George Santos deserves his own thread

Joy, we are now free to be deplorable assholes in public.
Since the 2008 election, the permission to be deplorable assholes in public seems to have exponentially expanded until today it is really just a huge black hole that will suck everyone into the vortex...
Welcome to equality. šŸ³ļøā€šŸŒˆ

I remember back when we were all shocked when Sen David Vitter (R-LA) remained in Congress after his prostitution scandal. Or how much time and effort it took to boot James Traficant (D-OH) out of office after he was convicted of 10 felonies while serving in Congress.

George Santos (R-NY) is still in Congress, and he's running for another term. However, he's having problems raising money and he's being forced to refund past donations.

Santos’ campaign refunded more than $35,000 to donors between July and September while taking in only $1,704 in new donations, according to his latest campaign finance report. His campaign also spent more than $42,000 over the period, $20,000 of which was classified as legal expenses. That left him with less than $23,000 in his campaign account.

...It’s a tale that probably only George Santos could tell—though Santos declined to provide any documentation to back up his assertions. The story that The Daily Beast uncovered ranges across the United States, crosses the partisan divide, and touches upon a dark money machine feeding unsourced cash to state races across the country. It plays out as a stupefying run of errors, gaffes, confusion, and misdirection that could, on some level, give Santos a run for his money. And somehow, because of course, Mike Lindell is involved...

These people are despicable. There is no way to summarize this, read it for yourself, I dare you to make any kind of sense out of it.

It all reads exactly as I would expect. Clumsy. Ham Fisted. Probably some weird sexual past thrown into the mix somewhere. Or as is more often the case....really petty shysters and grifters who somehow actually thought they were smarter than the press and the authorities.

Throw Datwyler and Olson into the clink and let's see how clear the story about the payoffs and the scam beomes.

Working theory: The elders (and semi-elders) learned the grift from THEIR elders who were able to pull off their scams before the internet when you couldn't just type someone's name into google and see their arrest record, tax returns, et cetera. They don't realize how easy it is to get caught with your hand in the cookie jar. I found Lavern Unice Elie's tax lien information without even trying, like, on accident. And a bathing suit selfie. :bartshock

Kitara is going to have a fit. the NY delegation of Republicans has forced a vote to expel her from Congress. It's next Wed. Just missing Halloween.

It's probably not going to pass though for the same reason Kevin didn't toss her.

Santos is retaliating by trying to censure a Democrat ](*,)

Gee, I'm so surprised, no really, no one saw that coming

Pretty much this....the GQP won't give up a single vote...but they have pretty much guaranteed they will lose the seat.

I was trying to find out the breakdown on this vote. Anyone know where to find it?

I'm glad Bucks County, PA's "independent" Republican congressman Brian Fitzpatrick voted "yes." In his swing district, standing with liars might be a liability.

Votes are reported on the House Clerk's website daily:

From the above...this failed because of the Dems too....look at the number not voting or voting present...standing with liars seems to be something that reps of both sides are happy to do.

A couple of the Dems who voted "Nay" said they did so because they thought it would be a bad precedent to remove an elected representative without a conviction. I get that. Santos is innocent until convicted. Probably this was more virtue-signalling to give cover to NY Republicans who are afraid of losing their seats to Democrats in 2024. This way, they can says "We tried! See?".

The Republicans via Marge filed a motion to censure Rashida Tlaib. The Dems then filed a motion to censure Marge. 23 Republicans voted against that resolution which killed both.

I have a feeling this is going to be how things roll for the next 12 months.

Thanks for the link. I'm pleased my Congresswoman voted yea, and dismayed that three other Eastern PA Democrats voted "present" or abstained

Jamie Raskin's reply to Santos' note thanking him for his vote against expelling him.
