He calls it a democratic freedom of expression!!
Frankly I think its just desserts.
You really cant be too decorous with Dubya - and also I think its ample demonstration of what the world thinks of Americans messing in Iraq anyway......
So go ponder on why it happened and not on how grave an affront it is.
It seems that some of you are applauding the thrower's "heroic behavior." Come on! He threw a pair of shoes at a leader (not his own) who's about to leave office. Perhaps it's been so long since we've witnessed true heroism that we can't recognize heroic deeds from a temper tantrum.
Well, this reporter was not a young student, staring down huge army tanks, ready to die, like those at the Tiananmen Square protest. This reporter was not putting everything on the line, hiding Jews in his home, like those who defied Hitler. This reporter was not sitting on a bus, facing police officers and guard dogs, knowing he was going to get beating and probably even killed, like the Freedom Riders who refused to back down to hatred and discrimination. No, this reporter is being glorified for something I'd expect to see on Ashton Kutcher's, "You Got Punked."
And, why does everyone seem to think that this journalist will be killed for it? Please, Bush aint exactly popular in that country. America isn't popular in that country.
I'm tired of hearing about what America did to Iraq. They weren't exactly bitching when American troops risked their lives to free them from the cruel hands of Saddam Hussein. As a matter of fact, I don't believe very many democratic countries bitched either. And I say again, the Iraqi govt. wants us there, then they don't, then they do, then they don't. And if this Iraqi reporter had a problem w/ U.S. troops in Iraq, he should take that up w/ his own govt. I don't care how the guy feels about my President—he sure as hell didn't have the balls to throw anything at Saddam.
I don't like Bush either. I think he lied about the WMDs, in order to gain the public's support of the war. I think he's the worst President we've ever had. I think he's overstepped his Presidential powers. I despise the man. I would love to help his ass pack so he can get the hell out of the White House. He's writing all these proclamations at the last minute; he seems hell bent on causing as much damage as possible before he leaves. And thankfully, my Constitution allows me to write this, to speak my mind about him, to protest his actions, to persuade my Congressional leaders to impeach him, etc. But, I can't hit him b/c he's pissed me off! He's still entitled to be safe. Let's act like adults. We don't deal w/ our frustrations; we don't settle our disagreements w/ violence. What is this, the wild, wild, west? You don't go around attacking people just b/c you don't follow their politics. Bush sucks. Amercian voters are also tired of that administration—and we handled it. We voted for change; we elected Obama. That's how it's done. No shoes necessary.
If you got into an argument w/ your biggest enemy and he threw his shoes at you, that's assault and battery. I don't care if you're the biggest asshole on the planet, you have a right to personal safety. Bush deserves the same. What if that was a bullet instead of a pair of shoes? And again, I'll be damned if I'm going to applaud some foreign asshole who attacked my President.
There are plenty of world leaders that I dislike. Jacques Chirac is no longer the leader of France, but I would've loved to throw something at him when he was. Currently, I can't stand Venezuela's leader, Hugo Chavez. I haven't attacked him though. And here's the thing, if an American attacked a foreign leader, the whole world would be calling for that American's head!!
