Skins - UK TV Show

Have you guys who dislike this show ever seen 'Beverly Hills 90210', 'The OC' or 'One Tree Hill?' 'Skins' is absolute gold compared to those pieces of garbage. And thats why I like it so much.
I liked the latest episode, but Cassie is becoming an annoying downer. Can't that dipshit just off herself for good?

I've seen and watched all episodes from all three of those shows you mentioned and I agree that Skins is miles ahead of them, especially the latter 2. However, that doesn't entirely mean that Skins can't be without it's own faults, which seem to stick out more in the second series than they ever did in the, IMO, much better first series.
There just seems to be a lot missing from this series that was prevalent in the first series.

I actually disagree with you about Cassie. She's one of, if not my favorite characters. Not so much this series. I don't think anyone is my favorite this series. I kind of feel like she has so many problems that seem to get worse around Sid. She could be a very stable girl in the right environment, I think.

I should probably stop here before I begin to analyze all the characters, :)

Did anyone else find last nights episode really boring and predictable? I'm glad Tony is out of his zombie-like state though.
This was the first episode I grew impatient and bored with.

It totally lost its edge. Its almost become self-parody.

The acting has been dreadful so far too.

I watched with a friend who'd never seen the show before and when it was over she said 'what the shit was that?' And me, having seen every episode, was thinking the same thing.

I don't know what they were trying to do with the episode but you don't have Barney loving his kids every day only to turn around and have him smoking pot and having sex with them in one episode. It was such a huge departure for me from what Skins is I hope they never do it again.

BTW has anyone heard of the rumors that they are replacing the entire cast with new characters for next series?

Skins is crap at the end of the day, but it's good crap. And Maxxie would get fucked rotten...that's be one of my main reasons for watching it if I'm bein' honest.

I heard that rumor too. I heard the 3rd series will revolve around Effy and her friends. It could be interesting but I'd miss the current cast too much. Especially Chris and Jal. They're easily my favorite characters. And there are only 3 episodes left this series, so I hope things come to a good conclusion if next season all these guys will be gone.

And I don't understand what you're trying to say in the second part of your post though.

Ha, I suppose it does sound crazy. I'd just seen the episode not too long before that so I was upset. Basically it's like Skins is about the teens and their problems in a semi realistic setting but Tony's episode was some weird crazy dream sequence that confused and bored me. It just doesn't fit with the series as a whole.

Yeah, I've also heard the rumor about Effy and her friends taking over. I like that idea better than an entire new cast of characters because at least theres a chance we can see the others every once in a while. But then I remember her annoying nutter of a friend from her episode last series that wouldn't stop talking and realize that maybe I don't want that idea quite so much.

I don't think it makes a lot of sense to get rid of all the characters, especially when we know so little about some of them like Jal, Anwar and Maxxie because they focus so much on Tony, Sid, Michelle and Cassie.

Oh now I get what you mean. Yeah I totally agree about the stupid split personality thing. It was SO predictable.

And yes OMG Effy's friend was so so so annoying! Hopefully they'd have grown apart by S3.

I would love to see more of that girl gang that beat up Sid in S1. "You givin' me cheek?" They were hilarious.

Also, do you know what grade these kids would be in if they lived in the US? They keep saying they go to college. So I'm confused lol.

The girl gang was pretty funny. I wouldn't mind seeing them again. The mini girl gang of tots that Maxxie and Tony encountered in the series 2 premiere were cute as well.

Series 1 was like their 11th grade year of high school. They're all in sixth form college, which is generally the final 2 years of 'high school' and since the series 2 premiere saw Tony wanting to register for class, I'd say that was the beginning of their 12th grade or senior year and now that he's touring university, I'd say they're getting close to the end of senior year.

I wish school wasn't such a huge factor in having the characters move on and go to university. If their years were left ambiguous, they could have easily inked out 4 series with them, each series being a semester of their final 2 years or something. Oh well, maybe those new cast rumors aren't true and I have nothing to worry about.

All I'm going to say is thank good for the fast forward button on divx files! :)

That episode sucked big time. If they change cast, then I'm not interesting in watching anymore. There's still a lot of story to tell so why mess around with things now?

Anyone happen to catch Mondays latest? Loads better than the previous week, and what's more, it was actually really good. I probably enjoyed this episode the most out of we've had this series, which says a lot because none of the other episodes have been anywhere near as good as they were in the first series.

As usual there was also an Unseen Skins segment to accompany the episode and FINALLY features Maxxie again who finally has a love interest now. Also looks like Sketch and Anwar are over and Sketch is back to dressing like a boy and psycho.

OMG this episode was really fucked up I can't believe it so sad.

](*,)I watched the whole episode thinking it would be the last one of the season. But thank GOD we have one more episode left!

They killed my favorite character...:cry: I can't believe it.

The thing I make myself remember regarding Chris's death is how everyone is going anyway. Otherwise I'd be much more upset than I already am.

How the fuck did Cassie get from Bristol to New York? Are we to believe that splif selling deal she had going on paid for it? What was the motivation? Although I did enjoy the episode overall. She's such an enigmatic spirit, I love her.

I don't think she physically went to New York.
Earlier in the episode she had a fantasy about her and her exam teacher dancing to 'Funky Town.' She escaped the stress of the exam by imagining that whole conversation and dance scene, and finished her paper.

I think she did the same thing with Chris' death. She imagined herself escaping her problems by leaving Bristol and going to New York. I think its all in her head.

Also, she got a free cab ride, a cabbie who speaks English, she was given $40 by the same cabbie, met a cute guy in a restaurant who didn't want to take advantage of her AND ended up with a place to stay for who knows how long. All in her first day in the city. That really seems like someone's naive fantasy when they dream of running away to NYC.

In reality she'd probably end up as a hooker. Or dead. Or a dead hooker.

Ha the last part of your post was funny to me for some reason, Spellbound.

But about the rest of it, I thank you very much for turning me on to the 'its all just a dream' because not only does it make total sense, but it makes everything else make so much more sense to me now. Much better done than Tony's episode. So much so I didn't even catch on to it being a dream sequence.

People are so confused right now on the various skins boards. If only they had this kind of clarity, haha.

Good thing I had already seen this episode or I be really pissed about the spoiler you just gave.

Or it's just bad scenario writing. :P

I don't see how you can interpret the trip to NY as fantasy. Especially if you consider the fact that the Skins teenagers often do things that make you say "Yeah sure, very realistic". The series just shows what real life teenagers want their lives to look like: a lot of drama, sex, drugs, partying and independence. But nobody lives this kind of Hollywood film scenario life. A trip to NY perfectly fits in that list of things a teenager would wanna do in their ideal life.

I've also got the idea that the more the series progresses, the more it's just about creating "artistic" scenes using fitting music, weird camera positions, filters, ... Good scenario writing seems to come in second place. Last nights ep was full of it.
- Seeing the day(s) progress from the point of view of Chris in his bed.
- Cassie and the teachers dancing in the class room.
- Cassie walking in NY
- Cassie sitting in the cab
- Cassie sitting at the river
- Cassie sitting on the bed with a letter and a green apple in front of her
- Cassie running down the streets
Pretty much all of these scenes were very cliché anyway.

Anyway, Skins never was a masterpiece, so it's maybe a little harsh to criticise it for what it's not. :) The fact that I still watch every ep means that it has so attraction. But I'm glad the series ends next week, so I can stop watching Skins with knowing how everything turns out.
