I'm really bored, so I decided to show you boys how I slow roast plum tomatoes on my wood fired Big Green Egg....

I went to the farm market and bought a bunch of vine ripened plum tomatoes, cut them in half, drizzled olive oil and some salt and pepper.

I lit the egg using all natural hardwood charcoal and let the oven get to about 500 degrees f.

The egg comes with a sort of flame tamer that allows me to cook using indirect heat. I put that in place.

Next step get the oven down to about 300 degrees f and put the tomatoes on for a long two or three hours....

You can slow the fire down by using the wheel that you see on top of the egg and the vent on the bottom. I can cook using temps from about 200 degrees to over 700 degrees all by opening and closing the vents.

after the tomatoes cook for a few hours I'm going to open the egg about 600 degrees and cook myself up a nice steak and eat some of those tomatoes with my steak....

Don't do it!!

Those are wonderful. They turn out almost like smoked sun dried tomatoes, but a little juicier. Slice a baguette, toast the slices, place a slice of fresh mozzarella on the toast add a tomato and fresh basil...

Never heard of an outdoor slow-cooker. Have you given thought to tossing on a handful of hickory chips for a real hickory flavour?

I've done hickory wood roasted prime rib, cherry and apple wood pork roast. Low and slow spare ribs which also cook for four or five hours. Pork shoulder roasts which cook for ten or twelve hours. One of my favs is the pizza that comes from the Egg. It cooks at 5 or 600 degrees in a matter of minutes.

My friends love pizza night....

I love it! Those are great pics. That would make for amazing pizza.

I ran them under some water, took the silk out and re wrapped them in their own husks

I might have poured a martini too, I'm not sure

I can't wait for the moneyshot. Good lookin' stuff.

golly, you were doing okay until you killed the corn......looks like one too many martoonies !! or sumthin...

why did you use PLUM tomatoes? I hope you at least blessed them with some basil when done?

the egg thing is interesting.....
where do we get one?
how much does it cost?

I've heard of HARD wood
I've heard of SOFT wood (kind of an oxymoron)
but SLOW wood?

is that like "I like a man with a slow hand" Not come and go in a heated rush...

The tomatoes look great but I was distracted by the sheet pan because it looks like it will be hell to clean.

I sprayed it with pam...easy clean up. I have roasing pans and other cookware that I only use for the egg

The corn was cooked just right, it cooked for only a few minutes. It was so fresh it could have been eaten raw.....just how you like it.....

When can I come over for dinner ??????????????

do you have plans to re-use the cobbs? methinks you do.

If you leave some of the kernels ON, think of the extra pleasure !
