It's starting now. Everything is ice covered and the entire city is virtually closed. They're predicting snowfall of 3 to 4 inches per hour. We're getting a little bit of a break on the ice but that means more snow instead. No fun.

If you're in Morris instead of Wilmington NC (and, interestingly, Wilmington IL is not far from Morris at all), batten down your hatches! You're NOT done yet.
I have an inch of ice and sleet all over everything but it looks like the snow accumulation will be less than expected. They're now saying -5F/-20C tomorrow night and wind is blowing like mad. I sure hope the power stays on.

Today was pretty much a hassle from start to finish.Left Scranton at 5 AM and drove on 6 inches of snow all the way to Harrisburg Pa at 35 MPH before the roads cleared up and I could make it to my appointments in D.C and Baltimore.
On the way back the roads were slick as all hell and my asshole puckered up every time I had to touch the brakes.This shit is no fun in a semi and a 53 foot trailer. It's not hard at all to jack knife in this weather,especially when your coming down one of the many mountains we have in Pennsylvania.When you tap the brakes,the trailer can end up going faster than the tractor and causes a jack knife.
Freezing rain,and MORE snow is forecast for tommorow..I'm just about OVER this fucking endless, miserable winter..I just want it to be over and to drive on roads I don't think will kill me..
I called off tommorow.I'm not even dealing with this bullshit.

Katrina did that over STL, iirc, or Gustav...kinda looked like that too!
And many people in the news, etc. are saying STL dodged the bullet. KC, Chicago, and other major cities didn't fare so well in the past 24 hours
Interstate 70 from STL to KC hasn't been closed in....decades? Ever? But 200+ miles of commercial interstate are now closed until at least 12 pm tomorrow...

As a person who has a degree in meteorology, I would have predicted some decent snow yesterday/last night (mon) for you with the initial wave ahead of the main storm...then dry and slowly rising temps. The storm system deepened rapidly from AR into IN which in turn sent a huge dry slot up into SE MI and Extreme Southern Canada for a period of time. These deep storms always produce the heaviest snows on the nose of that dry slot and to the West... has a lot to do with atmospheric physics which I won't get into. Oh and my total from this storm so far as best I can tell is 18" with a few more hours of snow to go.

Well, I have to say I'm disappointed. I was looking forward to a quiet day at home!
Nothing here in Ohio, except some occasional gusts of wind. No snow or ice. Currently -2°C at 7:30 AM. They kept warning us the storm of the century was coming, but we didn't get a thing.
All the schools are back open today. (They were closed yesterday for the false alarm).
Business as usual.

Everything is closed here in Detroit. They predicted 12 to 16 inches; I think there is 6 to 8 on the ground outside. The winds last night were powerful; almost seemed like Chicago. We started out for Coney Dogs but opted to have a burger at the hotel -- 40 mph winds with gusts even higher and snow falling sideways.
I guess just north of here got the 12 inches; Chicago sounds like it got buried and hopefully I'll get home to DC on Friday!

Milwaukee is buried. I've never seen anything quite like this. No one is going anywhere! Even if they can find their cars, and dig them out, they're still not going anywhere. The buses are staying in their "stables". All flights have been canceled until (maybe) 5pm. The interstates are closed. Thankfully, the storm has passed.
Overnight ... 18.2" of thunder snow, with 50+mph winds. 15' waves on the lake. 20' drifts around town. The Sheriff, and State Troopers, are reporting stranded squad cars who were going out to help. Trucking is stalled solid. The National Guard has been called out. Citizens are trying to plow roads in some counties.
Luckily, we didn't loose power.
I'm due in "The Kingdom" tonight, and hope most of this is cleared up by then. But, that's also when the COLD is going to hit. Wind chills expected to hit -10 to -20.

I do not believe in Global Warming, but I do believe in Climate Change, and wonder if we are going thru that right now. Is this year a foreshadowing of what Winters will be like for the foreseeable future....? Can you imagine us having to go thru this next year too.....?!!

While it could always be worse, it's bad enough here. I'm at my older brother's house right now (thankfully, he lives in a free wi-fi hotspot, so I can have some internet). He actually stayed at my place last night, and I'm thankful he did >> Our gas pipes froze up. He caught it, and turned all the stoves off. So no heaters or hot water. We pre-emptively turned off our water last night before the water pipes froze up. With the space heaters *on*, it's still about 40*F in my house right now. So my mom and her chihuahua are at one of her friend's house for the day, and I'm at my brother's place.
The roads are actually fairly decent here, but the bridges and overpasses are still slick, and the temps are still AWFUL. I called my convenience store to see how my co-workers are holding up. They're all fine, but sales were pitiful yesterday, seeing as nobody got out.
It is a mess to say the least.
Here's a video from one of our TV stations, here. The sports anchor tried to get into work yesterday, only to get suck in traffic, and almost ran out of gas - despite warnings from his very TV station to take precautions if you have to go out.
