  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

So, depression and suicide are NOT hot topics.

People get to start their topic where they'd like to see it discussed -- that is why there are different forums. Moving a thread should only be done when it just cannot fit where it's been put.

What a shallow view of things.

And this.

The thread should have stayed here I'm pretty sure his suicide is a pretty hot topic. The male celebrity section is for lusting over the men. This was for the death of a celebrity.

And if anyone is lusting over dead celebrities, I think that would go in the fetish forum....

That thread would have still been active here.

But isn't it up to the mods to determine if action should or shouldn't be taken?

Yes, but we generally only act after getting a request to merge... which we did in this case... multiple requests, in fact... since there were a total of 4 threads in 3 different forums (Hot Topics, Celebs and Bears/Daddies) about the same topic.

^^ It must be an annoying job to have to deal with these problems people will complain over anything.

Aren't moderators paid to be proactive about these things? They're acting like volunteers!

(ahem)

^^ It seems to me that people just reported it for the sake of doing so and now its moved their complaining over that. No matter what the mods decide you can't please everyone.

Thanks for the explanation, but wouldn't it have been more logical and practical to merge the smaller threads into the busiest thread, especially when that thread goes beyond the celebrity himself?

Generally, the merge tool picks the most recent forum along with the oldest title. What the mods try to specifically select is whether there will be a redirect to the merged thread- it was set for a 7 day redirect. Typically, we leave a redirect for 3 days but in this case, it was set much longer so that everyone could find the merged thread.

The last post in the actual thread about Robin Williams was on 16-Aug- 4 days before the redirect expired today.

I don't understand this -- what "redirect"? I never saw ANYTHING in this forum about Williams until I dropped into this thread.

There is NOTHING WRONG with a topic being discussed in different forums!! :##:

By all means, merge the two HT threads together - that leaves 3 threads in 3 forums.

What's the problem??

Bears/Daddies forum can dig out a photo of Robin Williams without his shirt on, Celebs forum can mention all the young hotties he starred with and drool over them, and Hot Topics can have a 'general' discussion, and a wide range of opinions.

In both the Malaysian Airlines cases, the disappearance and the one shot down over Ukraine, I think there were two threads for each, one in CE&P and one in HT. They both managed fine and well, with no issue whatsoever. I think I posted in both.

Why would someone COMPLAIN about such a thing?

The mods should have IGNORED and REFUSED the request - it's not for any one JUBber to start dictating to this whole site, which topics can be discussed, and where.

^If I was mod this thread would be closed and merged on the health forum. No flame applies at least.

This makes sense.

Before merging anything, the mods ought to at least see if they're merging things that go together -- just because the same celeb name is in the title doesn't mean they're the same topic.
