So, what do you guys think about the possible mosque by ground zero

I don't understand how one can consider themselves a supporter of the constitution and the bill of rights and at the same time be against this mosque being built. The construction of this mosque would only strengthen the principles on which America was founded.

Actually it's a community center with a prayer room, rather than a full-fledged mosque. And the cite is an old Burlington Coat Factory building, not the site of a former mosque.

There was a mosque in the WTC. There's a mosque in the Pentagon. There are mosques everywhere, and that's as it should be, because that's America..
^I don't know how anyone could disagree with the above words.

I'd bet my last freedom fish on it.

In Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi there are liquor stores and dance clubs built on land where slaves were lynched wholesale, no one uttered a peep. :?

Does sacred ground have an expiration date or something?

Why not a learning center teaching about the worlds many different religions?

I think that would be better.

My gut instincts say it is a slap in the face to all americans....however, you have to give it deeper thought.

What about when Japan bombed Pearl harbor? Look where we are with them today! :)

Isn't it funny that we can spend billions of dollars and the lives of US citizens to invade and occupy Iraq, under the auspices of freeing and protecting Muslims, building our biggest embassy in the world in that country, but then gripe when American Muslims want to build a cultural center in a city they live in?

I can't be completely unbiased

Then how can you be expected to be fair?

------------------------------------

But this isn't about what Muslims are doing. It's about hanging on to fear. Islam makes for a great scapegoat. And as long as there is a goat to scape, the real villains of humanity are free.

I don't really know what the answer is

I'll tell you. The answer is to stay out of their affairs.

It would make the Muslims look really good if they moved the mosque as a good-will gesture. Their insistence on putting the mosque right there doesn't make them look awfully compassionate.

If everyone was to do what others deemed appropriate, nothing would ever get done.

Furthermore, who is in charge of making the decisions of what is appropriate?

The only way to be free is to afford freedom to others.

And by doing so the US would make a splendid statement of tolerance and even forgiveness. It would resonate around the world - even send messages to petty sectarian disputes in other unconnected regions.....

The only reason this is an issue is so that Republipukes can change the conversation and peddle hate and intolerance. Remember, just a week ago the media were blasting the insanity of the Republicans talking about cutting the deficit while wanting tax cuts for the wealthiest 2%. The Republipukes were getting slaughtered finally, by the media actually doing their job and pointing out how ridiculous this stance was.

So, instead of admitting their insanity, the Republipukes, en masse, decided to talk about this mosque. Notice how little has been talked about tax cuts and deficits this week?

Republicans have no ideas, no plans, and nothing to offer Average Joe American. So they have to stoke the fear and hate machine. In 2000 and 2004 it was us homos they used to win their elections. This election they are using Muslims and Mexicans. These hateful, infected, scabs, are a cancer, and need to be air dropped over North Korea or Pakistan.

As much as I'm not a fan of the religion for their treatment of women gays and sexual expression its their right to build their durka durka center wherever they want.

You can say the same thing about Christianity also.

^ Don't cloud the issue with the facts, hun...

The GOP and the Rush Limbaugh's and Sarah Palin's of the world smell blood in the water here, and they are going to fall all over themselves trying to exploit it.

Never mind that the constitution guarantees our citizens freedom of religion in two separate amendments, the right will somehow find away to make Obama look unamerican and insensitive.

After all, abandoned Burlington Coat Factories are hallowed ground.

Are you the one and the same MoltenRock as last year? If so, Welcome back.

The one and only! Often imitated, never duplicated.

Scabs, There were people called this after the American Civil War.

The only "scabs" I know from history are those that walked thru picket lines of unions out on strike. I believe / thought the term started during the huge worker revolution in the US during the late 1930s, because of the horrific working conditions most employers subjected their employees to.

But if it started earlier than that, I'm all ears to learn more. :)
