Star Trek - Did you know this?

Wow, I never would have guessed. That's a major injury to workaround for the remainder of his career. Bet you can spot the results whenever you see him on-screen. I've always been distracted by his good looks.

Next time you watch him, watch for his limp when he walks. You see it if you look for it. Watch as he's walking toward the car in this commercial:

With each new version of the Star Trek saga there was that special moment or episode that moved me deeply. For "Star Trek: The Next Generation", it was the episode where we meet that strange alien, "The Traveler".

Eric Menyuk, who played The Traveler, originally auditioned for the role of Data. Of course, he lost out to Brent Spiner.

One thing I always wondered about Data. He could write speech programs to allow him to use dialects and, especially, contractions. If using contractions was such a simple program, why didn't he make it permanent?

Curious minds want to know.

Mind you, he did a horrible job at sign language.

The non use of contractions was hardwired into him by his 'father' Noonian Soong. It's also why his skin wasn't normal (pasty white), like human coloring.

Lore (Data's 'brother') was the bad one.

That didn't come up until later. He contracted quite well in the first few episodes. But even after we learned that he was 'hard-wired', he still wrote the occasional contraction program. The episode 'The Big Goodbye', the Dixon Hill holodeck episode comes to mind.

I'd have to watch again. It's been some time since I've watched.

One of the proudest moments for Star Trek fans around the world is the way Star Trek: The Next Generation, carried Gene Roddenberry's ideas for the series to a newer and, in my opinion, higher level.

With each season "The Next Generation" became my personal, "Trek of Choice"!

The Romulans weren't supposed to be part of the TNG universe. The new 'baddies' were supposed to be the Ferengi, but their first appearance was so laughable that the producers knew they'd have to do something else, and bringing back the Romulans was just the ticket... at least until the Borg came along.

We are the Borg. Resistance is futile, you will be assimilated.

YES! YES! The first appearance of the Ferengi was a disaster. In fact, it was so bad I almost gave up on the early TNG episodes. But it turned out to be a rare misstep. The Next Generation won me back with great stories and fine actors.

I've always wondered what Ferengi dick looks like. Do you suppose if I contacted Berman he'd tell me? :rotflmao:
