Re: Star Wars: Episode Vll

SPOILERS

I saw it yesterday and something that bothered me is the film overall has a feel like someone watched the original trilogy but didn't really bother to try and understand the 'physics' of the fictional universe. Particularly in the use of the Force. Now the Force is this universe's version of magic but properly done magic in story universes needs to still be consistent and follow some rules. We have the main new Jedi character essentially learning how to use the force from a 'mindmeld' with the villain. The mind tricks shown before never equated to outright telepathy. Empathy, foreshadowing and increased sense of awareness yes but reading a stranger's mind was something even the Emperor and Vader could not do. If they could why bother with torturing Leia at all? And stopping an energy blast in mid-air?

:deadhorse:

Lol....i love this new emoji

All the negative reviews are a waste of time. They had to go back to basics to attract a new younger audience. Episode 6 was 30yrs ago. Love all the unanswered plot lines in episode 7. Makes us all hungry for the follow up, instead of bashing a piece of crap like we were fed with episode 1

Re: Star Wars: Episode Vll

^I would disagree with the 'back to basics' point.

plus, these reviews are hilarious.

George Lucas Apologizes for Star Wars ‘White Slavers' Comment: 'I Misspoke'

UPDATE: On Thursday, December 31, George Lucas issued a statement apologizing for his "white slavers" comment.

Original story continues below:

George Lucas seemingly isn’t a fan of Star Wars: The Force Awakens — or Disney. During a candid interview with Charlie Rose, the original mastermind behind the iconic films compared Disney to “white slavers.”.....

“I sold them to the white slavers that takes these things, and…,” Lucas said, before laughing and deciding he better not finish his thought.

As fans of the franchise are well aware, Lucas sold Lucasfilm and the rights to Star Wars in 2012 to Disney for a whopping $4 billion. Since the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the film has grossed more than $1 billion and managed to smash almost every box office record.

But if you ask Lucas, he isn’t the biggest fan of the latest installment.

“They looked at the stories, and they said, ‘We want to make something for the fans,’” Lucas recalled of trying to work with Disney on the seventh film. “They decided they didn’t want to use those stories, they decided they were going to do their own thing … They weren’t that keen to have me involved anyway — but if I get in there, I’m just going to cause trouble, because they’re not going to do what I want them to do. And I don’t have the control to do that anymore, and all I would do is muck everything up ... so I said, ‘OK, I will go my way, and I’ll let them go their way.’”

In fact, Lucas thinks The Force Awakens -- directed by J.J. Abrams and starring newcomers Adam Driver and Daisy Ridley, as well as original cast members Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, and Carrie Fisher -- is too “retro.”

“They wanted to do a retro movie,” Lucas said. “I don’t like that. Every movie I work very hard to make them completely different, with different planets, with different spaceships — make it new.”

Lucas created Star Wars in 1977 and produced the following films in the trilogy The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.

George Lucas apologises for describing Disney as 'white slavers'

Star Wars creator backtracks on comments made during US TV interview, calling them ‘very inappropriate’

George Lucas, the creator of Star Wars, has apologised for using a “very inappropriate analogy” after he described Disney as “white slavers” when talking about its purchase of the film franchise from him.

In a candid interview on Us television, the award-winning film maker also criticised the “retro” tone of the new episode, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, with which he had no creative involvement.

He has now backtracked on comments he made to the talkshow host and journalist Charlie Rose, in which he said he had sold his “kids … to the white slavers that take these things”.

“I misspoke and used a very inappropriate analogy, and for that I apologise,” he said in a statement, in which he went on to say that he had chosen Disney as the “custodians” of Star Wars because of his great respect for the company.

Re: Star Wars: Episode Vll

George Lucas is just upset that people like this movie and very little people liked his new trilogy.

Re: Star Wars: Episode Vll

^he is right though about the 'retro' aspect.
No one can deny it's Jar Jar Abrams' remake of episode IV

Re: Star Wars: Episode Vll

I wouldn't call it a remake, it has it is own personality. And I don't know what Jar Jar has to do with it, George Lucas was the one who created him. And anakin being a virgin birth, ugh.

Re: Star Wars: Episode Vll

nuance apparently eludes some

Re: Star Wars: Episode Vll

It hasn't even opened in China yet. My god...this movies box office will never be matched after it overtakes avatar

I've seen 13 of those titles in a theatre

Re: Is 'The Force Awakens' really the highest-grossing film of all time?

Seems like you are a fan of movies and promoting it with the same post in another thread.

Re: Is 'The Force Awakens' really the highest-grossing film of all time?

^ No, I'm not. I haven't been to a theatre for over 20 years. I posted this thread before I posted in the other thread. It got little attention here, so I decided to post in the other thread since it was pertinent. Any new movies that I want to see, I buy on Blu-ray. I have 'The Force Awakens' on pre-order from Amazon. I've never seen the prequel trilogy (Episodes 1, 2, and 3). I have no desire to see them.

Re: Is 'The Force Awakens' really the highest-grossing film of all time?

^you may want to save your money, if you've seen ep iv, you've seen ep vii.

I was a bit disappointed with the rehash of a death star/planet and it having the same vulnerable spot as the first one. Are they really that stupid to build another one with an obvious flaw?

I wanted a good looking lead male character and didn't get one. Again, disappointed but that didn't mean the actors were bad, they did fine. I just like a little guycandy.

I like the new villain. Kylo Ren. Really nasty.
