Survivor 21: Nicaragua

Right now, I wouldn't mind if the F3 are Chase, Brenda and Naonka...if only because Brenda would have a decent chance of winning in that lineup. And I like their alliance anyway.

I still have a bad feeling Fabio is getting to the end though. I hope I'm wrong.

Yeah I'm with everyone that move made absolutely no sense, Marty has the idol, he has Jill, and is a threat, but they vote off Kelly B. when they had the perfect chance to get rid of Marty?

There must have been more to it than what we saw, i can't believe that Sash and Brenda would do something like that without a reason they seem to be pretty smart players. That was just a very dumb move.

It was Kelly's leg that got her voted off. Everybody had problems with her leg because they thought everybody would vote her to win if she got to the end. That is why Kelly is gone. Nay did nothing but talk about it, and now Brenda jumps in on the leg, too and it must have been on everyone's mind.

I did love seeing Marty sweat while the vote was going on.

Like I said... it's fine that they wanted to vote off Kelly B. (well not exactly but work with me for a second), but why force the tie? Just vote her off to begin with so you don't alienate Marty further.

Based on Jane's confessionals in the last night's episode, it won't happen, but what if Marty somehow got Jane back on his side? It doesn't look like it's impossible for him to get stupid Fabio to jump either. Suddenly, Marty/Jill/Jane/Jud would have a majority while Brenda's alliance just picked off somebody who would have been loyal to them for longer. And the dude still has the idol! It was a really dumb decision because they could have just picked off Kelly B. after Marty and the idol if they were that worried about her leg garnering pity.

Something clearly happened that was not shown. There was NO scene work about getting rid of Kelly B. and all the bites Brenda gave where highly manufactured. Go back and listen to them you can tell they smashed several bites together in a none too subtle way.

I don't get the Kelly B vote off either.

I'm so sick of Brenda and I hope she gets voted off soon. However, that looks unlikely if Sash convinces Marty to give up the idol. Why he would do that is beyond me, but stranger things have happened.

I actually didn't think Jud was dumb for believing Marty. I have no clue about chess grandmasters and I didn't know he was lying until he said so. Maybe I'm just gullible.

I will be interested to see what Espada does with Dan. Dan could be good to go to the end with.

Jane might be in a great position. Time will tell.

This is a good, succinct appraisal of the situation, and why it was so pointless of them to execute the vote the way they did. To add to your argument: once they realized there was a tie and Marty hadn't played the idol, why not just go ahead and vote him out to get rid of the idol that way? Stupid, stupid move.

I like Brenda's alliance, but part of me almost wants Marty to pull off that flip next week just to illuminate what a mistake they made. It won't happen though. Jane really seems to dislike Marty and Jill.

I knew Marty was lying the minute Guilermo Vilas' name came out of his mouth. Vilas was a great great clay court tennis player.

I like tennis more than chess, but my knowledge of both is rather limited. I think he would have been better to name another chess great (assuming he knew one or make up a name) just on the off chance that Jud was a tennis fan.

I am not a sash & brenda fan either.
I think her lil talk at TC will cost her a LOT coz now marty can turn fabio against her.

I still dont get why they voted off Kelly b instead of flushing easily the idol by sending marty home.

and both of em ar so cocky that's annoying. I much prefer a Alina strategy trying to get to the end without being too cocky about it.

She's the one I'll root for with benry to go the Final

My latest winner predictions based on the editing/storytelling.

Good Chance:
Jane - had a solid intro episode where she introduced her story to the audience and then provided fire for the tribe. Went slightly low-vis, which is usually the case for winners pre-merge, until she was portrayed as an underdog before the switch, at which point she got new life and became a key player to Brenda's alliance.

Holly - also had a solid intro episode in which she explained how she was good judge of character due to her occupation. Had a crazy second episode, but the editors really tried to redeem Holly at the end of it rather than just making her look like an super-negative psycho. Since then, she laid low as an underdog and has emerged as a strong, positive player after the swap.

Chase - originally I didn't think he was good pick because he looked really bad in the first episode. However, as Brenda has gone on to be the person we're supposed to think will win, it's given me a new perspective on the Brenda/Chase relationship. I could easily see the two of them making it to the end with Chase playing the role of Natalie or Amber to Brenda's Russell or Boston Rob. He's the nice guy everybody underestimates, and I could see Brenda becoming the evil black widow who uses him and pays for it in the end.

Mixed/Low Chance:
Alina - has been present in every episode, was portrayed as an underdog against Na'onka until getting new life after the switch. The problem I have with her is that she's very... bland. All she does is narrate and define relationships between other players. There's rarely anything personal from her.

Sash - Sash has only been important in two episodes, so I have my doubts about him winning. However, they noticeably spliced him INTO an alliance scene in place of Benry, so I think he'll play a decent role in the coming episodes, but probably won't win.

Jud - the recurring theme to Jud's edit has been "he's an idiot." Really. The only thing keeping me from eliminating him entirely are his winner quote in episode one, his confessional in episode three and his present but never overbearing amount of screentime. Survivor has never painted their winners to be this stupid.

Jill and Marty - He is much like Brenda in that he was the person who we were supposed to think could win until the switch happened. He was too present and negative. However, if Marty did win, I don't know how they would edit him differently than this. Jill is basically an extension of Marty, without as much negativity, so I'd say her chances are just slightly better. At the same time, they're both dull strategybots.

Brenda - I think she is the person who we're supposed to think will win, which means she likely will not. They're really starting to play up how she's cocky even though her alliance made a really stupid decision to vote off KB. If she gets the end, I could see her playing a female version of Russell to Chase's Natalie.

No Chance:
Dan - He has no story except for how much he sucks at everything consistently. He's definitely on his way out.

Benry - His edit is starting to pick up, but he's pretty much the ideal Survivor winner to the editors: attractive, young, male and inoffensive. If he were the winner, there would have been something to his edit before the switch, and they certainly wouldn't have spliced Sash into his place in Na'onka's alliance in that one beach scene a couple of episodes ago.

Na'onka - she's been toned down since the switch and the editors may try to make her look more positive now that she's aligned with Alina and KB is gone, but there's no way the editors would have the winner saying such nasty things about a girl with one leg.

Kelly - who? Poor girl doesn't even have an edit or storyline.

I feel like Jane will make it far into the game but will possibly be voted out due to being a possible jury threat, and jury threats seem to be important this season it was mentioned many times in episode one and was the reason (I assume) Kelly B. was voted off. I don't know if Jane will go on an immunity streak like Bob did in Gabon, but that seems to be the only way she would possible make it to the end.

The editors are forcing the Brenda vs. Marty feud on us, I think one will go down fairly early while the other one makes it deeper into the game, but I think they are both being set up for falls. Brenda was my choice until this last episode but I'm not eliminating her yet.

Chase has the potential to go far and win, he would be another boring winner though much like JT.

Holly is becoming my pick to win it all though, we see strategy from her, personal insight, her ups and downs, she is good at challenges, in with the younger people, and she understands this game.

I think some of the comments Shannon said will have an effect on who wins, he mentioned that the older people will not beat the younger people and that he doesn't want another woman to win the game. Considering how negative he was portrayed maybe the opposites happen of what he didn't want to happen, so maybe an older woman wins. That leaves Jill, Holly, and Jane. And of those three I think Holly has the best shot.

Yeah, when I heard Shannon's comments about keeping another woman from winning, I figured that was a dead giveaway that a woman would win, and that was before I even looked at how bad most of the male edits this season were.

However, I could see it being used kind of ironically if Chase wins after being so tight with Brenda for the entire season. Out of all of the remaining men, I think Chase has the best chance.

I would really like Holly to win because she is my favorite so far, but I'm not totally sold on her yet. Her edit is very reminiscent of Kathy from Survivor Marquesas, which was a redemption edit because she went from the super annoying older woman to the season's power player, yet just fell short in the end.

The scene in question was in episode 3, after Shannon had been voted out. At 11:45, Benry, Brenda and Chase are sitting on the beach when Kelly Purple and Na'onka come up and the latter asks, "Are we pow-wowing?" Cut to random close-up shot of Sash (wearing red shorts), who was not even there two seconds ago.

Then suddenly Sash and Kelly Purple are sitting on the left side, with Kelly apparently sitting next to Chase and Brenda gone entirely. They say a few lines, and it cuts back to Na'onka saying who "her strong five" are with Benry (wearing yellow shorts) sitting on the beach again in Sash's place and Kelly Purple sitting next to Na'onka.

It's either really sloppy editing or Benry was a part of the alliance but he won't be when it matters, so they're glazing his membership in the alliance over.

Editting these things can be a bitch. Continuity errors are rampant if you know where to look. I can barely watch shows I've worked on because I notice the tricks too easily.

They've been inconsistent about Benry from the beginning though. They never mentioned him being in their group for voting Shannon off BUT Chase said he trusted Brenda and Benry most at tribal and then Benry voted Shannon out too. Clearly a lot of more complicated shit happened but they didn't have time to delve into it and it ultimately became unimportant.

I'm so very confused by what happened. I can't comprehend it. What... WHY... what!?!?! You didn't flush out the idol AND you've lost someone who was loyal to your alliance AND you pissed off the other side by alerting them to your intentions. I mean REALLY if you just wanted to vote Kelly B off WHY split the vote?

After tonight's vote I can see as clearly as mud. Where is the conversation that tells everyone who to vote? Clearly we are led in one direction and it ends up another. Did someone's conscience get in the way?

That Freudian slip by Sash was priceless. Not a fan of his at all.

Benry and Alina look so cute on top of the tower working so well together.
