Survivor 29: San Juan del Sur (Blood vs. Water 2)

Josh: "We're going to use the bond we have from not fucking to make it to the end together! ^_^"
Me (channeling Courtney Yates): "You do that..."

Dear god. The casual fanbase has totally turned on Missy over that ridiculous argument she had with Dale over the rice portions because she's "greedy" and "spoils Baylor" or whatever. Even though Dale has been a sour little gremlin for weeks now and clearly Coyopa wasn't doing something right with the food considering they lost every challenge except the one Drew threw. I would say it shocks me that people can interpret the footage like this, but two weeks ago Natalie was the one who took shit for "bullying" John Rocker, so....

Slip, this is exactly why I don't frequent casual fanbases online anymore. Those people are LOONS and frequently prove themselves to be racist/sexist/homophobic...even more so than the one or two loons in this thread.

And yes Dale is the worst. I wish he'd have gotten the boot instead of Kelley but I understand why J&J thought that was the best move for them both pre and post merge (and it actually makes me admire their gameplay).

Meanwhile, civil wars are erupting on the hardcore Survivor hangouts over whether Baylor is an annoying cow or amazing goddess. Thoughts? I hated when she turned on Nadiya but other than that my feelings have evaporated to tepidness... so I guess neither viewpoint is applicable for me.

Yeah I don't love Baylor, but I have to root for her as long as Dale is still there stinking up the joint.

So you're done with Baylor? LOL Dale and his fake idol but nothing can top a stick with a face.

And Jeremy is either the winner or will have some epic elimination.

Honestly, I agreed with Jeremy's feelings about giving up basically all of their rewards for some extra food. They must have known that the merge is right around the corner and thus there'd be more food coming, and obviously there's always the chance of winning more food from the tribal rewards. Then again apparently the part of Nicaragua they're in is pretty barren for natural food sources compared to most Survivor seasons and they'd already had to give up the fishing gear... I guess it really depends on which day the trade took place, and which day the merge usually is. (Factoids like which days things take place on are completely lost to me at this stage in the show's life cycle.)

And I suppose I can accept Baysic as long as she falls in line with the rest of Natalie's surrogate Twinnies and helps Natalie get further in the game. LOL at her super awkward attempts to smile along with Jon's random "You're so beautiful!" compliment to Jaclyn at the end of the episode.

Also while poking around Survivor Wiki for merge day numbers, I found this piece of info:

Justine Ferrer is a contestant from Survivor Philippines: Palau.

She is known to be the first transgender in Survivor history, and she is known for being the first voted out in the game but returning to the Merge by defeating all of the other castaways sent to Isla Purgatoryo, and eventually climbing her way to become a finalist.

Holy shit that sounds amazing. Why couldn't something epic like that happen from the US RI seasons??

I still don't give a shit about Baylor, but how much are you loving Missy? She's clearly got GAME unlike her dumb daughter, and has set up so many options for herself post-merge. And unlike most of the "moms" you and I root for, she's actually running shit.

Please god let Missy/Baylor/Jon/Jaclyn/Keith/Natalie/Julie team up post merge and take out Josh's celibate ass first. That would literally be all the awesome people in one alliance and it's totally possible courtesy of Missy.

Obviously I'm a fan of Missy, although I did enjoy Trish more because she ran the game while being a cackling bag of bones. I also have reservations for Missy because based on the edit/that ridiculous rice fight with Dale last episode, I don't have a lot of hope for her winning chances anymore. I know we JUST had Tony last season and the edit buried him with negativity, but older female winners already have a tall mountain to climb to audience acceptance and I can't see them portraying a winner from that demographic in any sort of negative light. Even when Denise was being a self-righteous cow to Abi-Maria it was because Abi was clearly edited as the villain of the season, which wasn't the case for Dale.

Then there's my girl Natalie who could just as easily fall into the Tasha trap of getting my hopes up that she could win and then... not win. Maybe they'd even go out back to back in fifth and sixth like Tasha and Trish did and I'd just have to black out this season entirely because Natalie is the main reason I even care right now. But on a positive note I do have HOPE that Natalie/Missy/Baysic will be a thing that dominates the merge because this episode set it up hardcore.

Here's how I'd rank my favorites to least-favorites so far this season:

THE BEST
1. Natalie
2. Missy
3. Julie
4. Jon & Jaclyn

NOT THE BEST BUT SOMEWHAT ENTERTAINING
5. Jeremy
6. Baylor

THE BORING
7. Reed
8. Keith
9. Wes

THE WORST
10. Josh
11. Alec

K, I don't like Josh and Reed much, but them going as the Twinnies for Halloween is pretty funny.

To me that just proves that even Josh and Reed know that the Twinnies were the stars of this season.

Also slip, I'm surprised Keith is in the same grouping for you as Jon/Jaclyn. I thought the Southern old male coot was one of your least favorite casting types? ;)

I have to admit, Jeremy would be higher on my list but I keep getting a whiff of homophobia from him.

Eh, Keith's a step above Baylor and those other guys so I just chalked him up to the like column.

I sensed that people were going to jump on Jeremy bitching about Reed and Josh's PDA as he was talking about it. If the editors cut him off halfway through and left out the part where was like, "If Val were here right now we'd be downplaying all of that stuff because it makes you a target" I'd find it pretty damning too.

I think it's that coupled with the "homosexual comments" remark from a few weeks ago that has me uneasy. Like, I don't think he's overtly homophobic or anything (he included homophobia as a knock against Rocker after all), but I think he might be -- like so many straight guys -- somewhat uncomfortable with gay PDA, even if he doesn't know it.

Then again, Josh is so generally unlikable that I'm probably reading too much into it.

It'd be unfortunate because on the other side of the coin he's so gung-ho about leading an alliance of amazing women. Kind of like a reverse situation of BB16's boys alliance being so friendly with Frankie while systemically slaughtering all of the girls in the house.

LOVED this episode!!!

Josh and Reed were THE Men of the episode!!!

First in the Reward Challenge and then dominating in the Immunity Challenge by first making the flag before putting them up and winning!!!

Was a given that Dale was the one to go.

LOVED Natalie's volunteer to go to Exile Island (Survivor First? Volunteer I mean?)

Julie... poor Julie, but hey, it's Survivor, rain's gonna come your way sometime.

And that penalty!? Why not go to Tribal Council immediately instead of handing in your comfort items?!

Next week: Merge. I think it's way too soon.

And an extra: these are HILARIOUS:
