Tariffs in the second Trump Administration [SPLIT]

It will be a great time for clearance sales, but yeah...the shelves are going to quickly empty of the more desirable items. And it will be interesting to see how long consumer patience holds.

IF this happened under a Democratic president (not that it would), the right wing would be howling with rage by the end of the first 48 hours.

I like the description of the 'eye of the storm'.

There should be some kind of event when the last loaded Chinese ship arrives on the west coast.

The 145% is not sustainable at all.

And China can still afford to be patient.

Trump just demonstrated how much of a FUCKING MORON he is:

"We were losing hundreds of billions of dollars with China. Now we're essentially not doing business with China. Therefore, we're saving hundreds of billions of dollars. It's very simple. "

He has no concept of trade. Or global economics. Or fucking reality.

I don't go out and buy a car. I save billions of dollars. My car is still broken down, I can't get it repaired and I don't have a car, so I lose my job and can't pay my bills and now I am bankrupt but I saved billions of dollars.

It is very simple.

So it was all performance and no substance...just something to grab the headlines. Because TrumpCo. had to know it just isn't on. Unless they are trying to test something else related to this in the courts.

The White House scrambling to walk back Trump's brain fart about tariffs on foreign movies.

A lot of people in the US won't realize that the big retailers will be loading up on Christmas merchandise through the summer months in order for it to be in the stores by Christmas.

So yeah. It isn't just the near term seasonal goods from China that won't be hitting the shelves.

If this goes on without the US caving soon kids will be lucky to find any doll under the tree this year.

It was apparently Jon Voight who suggested the idea of tariffs on foreign movies to Trump.
At least he is takintg credit for this incredibly half-baked idea.

Here's the video. Something very rare in American politics: it's two openly gay men interacting in a Congressional hearing. Bessent looked like he was going to flip a fan open at any moment.

^ So true!

Bessent is totally squandering any credibility or reputation by sucking at Trump's fart box.

I honestly can't believe he has so little pride or sense of self worth that he would have done this...but I'll bet Bessent is making out like a bandit with insider trading and
deals he's making.

If he was my husband, I would kick him out of the house for being such a grimy little cuck.

Bessent isn't like KKKaroline or Kellyanne- lying doesn't come naturally to him.

I would be happy to play poker with him. He has no poker face and that habit of shaking his head "No" when he's bullshitting makes him an easy mark.

^Still can't stand this Kapo Kunt.

Meanwhile the real answer:

Some sort of trade deal between the UK and the US is due to be announced later.

Something to watch for: the US has existing trade agreements with most major countries, including the UK. Those agreements were approved by Congress.

Trump's little executive order gambit was only possible because he declared a "state of emergency" and overrode the existing trade agreements.

Anything that Trump negotiates will only be permanent if Congress approves it. Otherwise, it will expire when Trump leaves office.

Because there are already Congressionally-approved trade agreements, Trump can also use the terms of the existing agreement and then claim that he negotiated a "deal" when he is just using the existing agreement terms.

It all looks rather vague. Indeed "final details of the deal will be written up in the coming weeks". And he's got the ghastly Peter Mandelson there.

The Americans can export as much beef as they like, like many others I only buy British and that's not going to change.

If there are no details, there is no deal. Britain would be foolish to trust anything they say.

Let's see what StarmerCo. come up with on Ag.

NFU president Tom Bradshaw:

“A deal in which we open our markets to US produce in return for nothing more
than the reduction or removal of tariffs which didn’t exist eight weeks ago
would be an unimaginable failure and is not a deal in anything but name”
