Thad1527 Appreciation Thread

Good Saturday morning, Thad! (*8*)

It sounds like you're really getting into the baseball season. It sounds like seeing all those home runs at the Yankees game was fun. And you're going to watch the Red Sox in Boston? It must be fun.

I'm looking forward to Massachusetts! I was concerned about lodging costs, as hotels in the Boston area are expensive. But I'll be at an Airbnb in Arlington. I expect to be out most of the time anyway.

Wednesday is my scheduled Fenway day. I may ride the new train service to New Bedford and Fall River also.

Happy Easter, Thad. (*8*)
I'm sure you're having fun this weekend, and maybe listening to another good concert :)

I'm home! The Massachusetts trip was great.
I flew to Boston Ligan Airport Monday, went from there to Sakem. Had lunch at the LGBT-friendly Ugly Mug Diner and roamed through the history and tourist traps. (But even the tourist traps were pleasant.)
Tuesday was exploring Cambridge and the Harvard area. Saw the Munch exhibit at the Harvard Art Museum.
Wednesday started with breakfast at Donut Villa in Arlington, then to the Encore casino ($52 profit) and to Fenway Park. The Mariners beat the Red Sox 8-5. One home run per team.
Thursday I rode the Red Line subway end-to-end. The bus ride home was crowded and heavy traffic, but got me home!
I loved my Airbnb.

Good Saturday morning, Thad! (*8*)

It sounds like you had a great time in Boston, with lots of flowers in bloom, old Victorian houses, the game at Fenway Park, and touring the area.

I'm sure you enjoyed riding the subway system, but there is at least one poor chap who got lost forever.

Good early Sunday morning, Thad! (*8*)

I hope you're having a great weekend. That's a great pic of the Abraham Lincoln locomotive. I'll have to remember that it's Train Day on the 10th.

Good Sunday morning, Thad! (*8*)

I hope you're doing well, and that things are working out with you having to stretch your budget this month. If you can find ways of entertaining yourself at home, you might be OK, but I know that you like to go to places and do things out in the world.

I've been watching lots of playoff hockey on TV.

I did go to a comedy show last Tuesday in Asbury Park, NJ. It was funny enough but a long easy trip to get there. NJ Transit runs route 317 from Philadelphia to Asbury Park. That town is undergoing a renaissance and a building boom! I remember it in the 1980s when it was a sad decaying place. Not now! I will likely go back there for Jersey Pride June 1...that's been a major event there for years now.

Good Sunday morning, Thad! (*8*)

I hope everything is going well for you, and that you've found ways of enjoying your frugal time at home, going to the library and local events, and watching television, perhaps some hockey playoffs. It'll be great when they payments come, and you can cut loose and do things like traveling.

Game 7 of the Panthers-Maple Leafs series is tonight. Although I did see the Maple Leafs in Toronto earlier this season, I'm rooting for the Panthers.

Tuesday I went to New York! I had a ticket to see Michael Angelakos, who records as Passion Pit. It was at a garish venue called Deluxx Fluxx, on East 11th Street in the East Village next to famous Webster Hall. The good: venue staff were nice, bathrooms fine, you could hear from anywhere in the venue, available places to sit. The bad: harsh weird lighting and lighting effects, many places with no view of the stage, jarring music before the actual show, no place to escape the bright colors, lights, or noise. But I stuck it out and liked a lot of the music. Michael played very different versions of Passion Pit hits like "Carried Away" and "Take A Walk," and ended with songs with just guitar accompaniment including "Sleepyhead," which is apparently well known but not by me until now.
I'm probably not the target audience for events at this venue, and I'd definitely think twice before going there again.
Afterwards, I went to Rise, a bar on 9th Avenue that had "Cutthroat Karaoke." It was totally fun. No, I did not sing...it was popular and Emily, the host, was booked solid. But I found a barstool and enjoyed the songs. I'd go back.
I then went for breakfast a block up 9th Avenue at the Flame Diner and stopped for one last drink at 9th Avenue Saloon, where I enjoyed conversations. Lastly a walk back to Penn Station and the train home.

That's my adventure!

Glad you had fun in NYC, Thad! "Cutthroat Karaoke" sounds scary, but good thing it was fun. You should sing next time. 😉

Sounds like you had a good time the other night in New York. It's good that you got to enjoy that concert, every though the lighting and preview music were unpleasant. It must be great to be able to hop on a train, catch the nightlife, and take the return train home and not have to stay at one of the expensive hotels in the City.

I hope all is well with you.

Good Saturday morning, Thad! (*8*)

I hope you're doing well, and that you'll enjoy whichever Pridefest you decide to go to. How about those Panthers?

Good Thursday morning, Thad! (*8*)

It sounds like you had fun at the Asbury Park Pride. I think we're finding that it's OK that a lot of the corporate sponsors got scared off, because the celebrations are really about us, and not the "approval" of the outside society.
