Thad's Hockey Corner

I see my Avs are down early. And yes, Darcy was the handsome lad I was thinking of!

My young Buffalo Sabres team has some of the best eye candy on the planet!

and the man I'd love to have for keeps, JJ Peterka!

They are a young team with lots of developing talent!

Thompson is having a career season. But I'm not banking on the Sabres making the playoffs this season. The competition is strong.

I saw an exciting game last night; the Penguins beat the Ducks, 4-3 in overtime. The Penguins trailed late in the third period, pulled their goalie...and it worked. Bryan Rust scored the tying goal. Shortly into overtime, Jake Guentzel put the puck into the net for the win.

The Ducks are another fairly young team that isn't quite ready yet.

I’m with you, Thad! Zegras is the cutest player in the NHL right now.

My long-time NHL crush is Brayden Shenn. He and I are the same age so I’ve followed him from Juniors all the way through his NHL career. Unfortunately, he plays for St. Louis, a division rival of my team (Minnesota Wild).

Anyone watching the Hockey World Cup? Does anyone know why the US doesn't have a team in Hockey World Cup because I tried to find a reason why but couldn't find an answer.

^ The Hockey World Cup that ended today, played in India, was mens field hockey. Although it's a great game and an Olympic sport, the USA has little presence in the mens international game. Few colleges or universities have programs. Germany defeated Belgium in today's final

Now, women's field hockey thrives in the USA. Team USA is participating in the Women's World Cup being played next month in South Africa.

I saw the host Flyers beat the Edminton Oilers in a shootout last night, 2-1.

Although I've seen four other games go to overtime this season, this is the first shootout for me this season.

My takeaways:

Connor McDavid IS all that. But the Flyers kept him from scoring, even in the shootout.

Carter Hart is a great goalie.

Apparently Scott Laughton and James VanRiemsdyk have guests from the LGBT community at Flyers games. How can I get an invitation?

My next games: Feb 21, Florida at Washington. Feb. 23, Anaheim at Washington.

^Oops. Tuesday's game was the Detroit Red Wings @ Washington. And I saw the "bad" Capitals lose twice. Even though Ovechkin was back for Thursday's game, the slide continued.

The slide ended today, though. The Caps beat the Rangers in a matinee game aired on ABC.

But the Capitals traded away my second-favorite player, Garnet Hathaway (Ovi will always be my #1 Cap.) Hathaway's smart (went to Brown) and will be fine in Boston.

I have ABC on for the second game now, Pittsburgh @ St. Louis. Brayden Schenn looks as good as ever. It's tied in the second period.

Well, it's the playoffs! And what a crazy playoff season it is.

The Tampa Bay - Toronto series alone is inspiring heart attacks. No lead is safe.

Triple overtime?
That's what we've got in Carolina tonight.

I fell asleep with the TV on early in the game. Woke up after midnight to find the game still going on.

At last, a conference final game that didn't go to overtime.

Who would have thought it? The Florida Panthers are one win away from the Stanley Cup Finals. They barely made the playoffs, but have come on strong since.

I like them. Their goalie, Sergei Bobrovsky, won the Vezina Trophy for outstanding goaltending some years ago and has returned to spectacular form. Matthew Tkachuk, traded from Calgary, is shining. It's fun to watch.

So we'll have a first time Stanley Cup winner this year.
The Golden Knights are so deep. They'll be tough to beat.
But the Panthers have been so surprising in these playoffs. Commentators are saying their 9-day layoff may hurt them. I hope not.
On my bulletin board: pics of Matthew Tkaczuk (from an old Calgary Flames calendar - the trade to Florida helped him). And William Karlsson (a poster from a game in Vegas I attended),

Vegas wins the Stanley Cup!

The final win was in convincing fashion, and showed that Adin Hill is a world-class goalie. It was nice to see Jonathan Marchessault win the MVP, and Jack Eichel win the Cup after not even seeing the playoffs in his career prior. (Buffalo deserves better.)

The NHL draft is in two weeks, and Chicago gets first pick.

Hello.

Cool little hockey corner you got here. 😎🆒

🏒🥅

I do like the changes the Flyers have made. New management. A few new players. And they dumped Ivan Provorov, bigot who rebelled against Pride Night. (He went to Columbus. Maybe I need to go to Pride Night at the Blue Jackets this season.)

Yes, with rare success. I am in one strange league where you're only allowed players from one team. I have Nashville. We chat and comment a lot.
