Thad's Hockey Corner

Here is a beach towel I got at the Panther Pride night in February 2020, a month before Covid shut everything down. The logo and the rainbow colors are painted on, so don't even think of using it or washing it.

^ I love it! This is the hat the Panthers gave me when I went to their game. I wear it often.

For the second game in a row, the Blues lost 5-1. And they trailed 5-0 in both games.

I rooted for the Kings tonight, and they did not disappoint. They are really strong this season with great depth.

But Thursday I was rooting for the Blues. I hate the Sharks. So what happened? The Sharks created opportunities, and took advantage of a second-string goalie.

Tomorrow more Blues action, in Anaheim. If the Ducks win 5-1 the world will prove its sense of humor.

That will conclude the hockey portion of my western trip. It's carousing from here on.

I'm home, watching the Flyers-Decils game on TV.

Nobody was expecting the Flyers to be good this year. When that happens, they usually do well

The Flyers have the best record in the league for the month of December.

I went to two New Jersey Devils games at Prudential Center this week!

Feb. 8 was vs. the Calgary Flames, and ended with a 5-3 Calgary win. (Funny, the previous NHL game I attended ended in a 5-3 visitors win...but that was the Anaheim Ducks over the Nashville Predators last month.)

It was a different story Feb. 12. The Devils beat the Seattle Kraken, 3-1. The Devils had to use their backup goalies, Nico Daws. But no worry, Daws looked as good as Seattle goalie Joey Daccord, who's considered one of the rising stars. Jack Hughes scored one of the Devils' goals, that had me wondering, "How'd he do THAT?" The shot was from a crazy angle and went in the net. Awesome!

I'm a jinx for the Seattle Kraken. They're 0-3 in my presence.

I'll be watching on TV for a little while...unless I find some money or super-discounts on a ticket. Monday's cost me under $24

It's playoff time.

I'm home watching game 7 of the Toronto-Boston series. It's going to overtime. Although they aren't my favorite teams, both have been quite good this season and I love competitive games.

I do love the Nashville Predators, and they were eliminated from the playoffs last night. Nothing to be ashamed of; they played well.

I didn't know of underwater hockey, either.

But I DO know of hockey for the blind! It features a larger, beeping puck and a goal net a foot lower than a standard hockey net.

A woman who is involved with blind hockey in Philadelphia is one of three finalists for this year's Willie O'Ree award, given for service to the hockey community. It's presented in honor of Willie O'Ree, the first black NHL player who is still with us and appears at special events. He lives in San Diego.

The Stanley Cup finals are set!

I saw each team once this season. I saw the Oilers lose to Philadelphia in October. The Oilers had a horrible start this season and the Flyers started well. That reversed as the season went on...a new coach seemed to improve the Oilers, while the Flyers spiraled out if the playoff picture.

I saw the Panthers win in November in San Jose. I like their physical play and have admired Bobrovsky's goaltending for years.

So I'm rooting for the Panthers to win their first Cup. But it's OK if the Oilers win. It should be fun to watch!

The Cleveland Monsters are still in the play-offs. Although they lost the first 3 of 4 games against the Hershey Bears, the first two were lost in overtime and the Monsters won the 4th. I'm rooting for the Monsters.

After winning on June 8th the Monsters force a 6th game for June 10th. The Monsters trail at 3 losses to 2 wins out of a 7 game series for the Eastern Conference Finals.

Yes, the Monsters are still in the Calder Cup hunt! The winner will play the Coachella Valley Firebirds, Seattle's farm team that plays in Palm Desert, CA.

Hershey beat Coachella Valley in last year's Calder Cup final.

Yes, I'm glad the Panthers won their first Stanley Cup. It would have been shameful if they lost after being ahead 3 games to 0. I like their defensive style of hockey and I'll always love goalie Sergei Bobrovsky.

I did see the Panthers in person once last season, when they won in San Jose in November.

Next season's schedule is released! So mich I want to see. I have to get to Salt Lake City to see their new team (the relocated Coyotes). I want to go to Edmonton and Winnipeg; haven't been in their current arenas, although I was on the site of WInnipeg's Canada Life Centre when it was Eaton's department store.

And another of my favorite teams, the Nashville Predators, signed a few free agents and should be REALLY good next season.

This is the time of year I get e-mail from many NHL teams announcing the start of ticket sales!

I've already bought my ticket (and a plane ticket!) to see the Carolina Hurricanes play the Utah Hockey Club at Delta Center in Salt Lake City in November. Since the Vegas Golden Knights visit Utah two nights later, I'll likely see them too.

I went to a preseason game Thursday night!
The Flyers hosted the Islanders and won, 2-0.
Flyers goalie Samuel Ersson was star of the game with a shutout. But Islanders

(Cont.) goalie Marcus Hogberg (who's #3 on their depth chart) played a really good game. I'll be unhappy if he ends up in the AHL in Bridgeport.

Flyers' new Russian acquisition Matiev Michkov scored an empty-net goal. He looked like he belongs.

I'll be back to Wells Fargo Center next month when the Capitals visit. And I'll see the Capitals again in Laa Vegas in November.

The two games played in Czechia (that count in the standings!) are done, and the Devils won both. Looks like another long season in Buffalo.
