Being an advocate means it is easy to be caught up in a spiral of dire warnings and dilemmas, but it doesn't have to be. Although the planet and the environment do face turmoil, and much at the hands of man, there are also amazing stories of positive work being done.

Kuli used to post these stories, if I remember rightly.

Here is one I stumbled across due to my liking natural videos and watching them on YouTube.

Enjoy.

Just when I thought the whole world has turned to, "every man for himself", you go and post a video that brought me to tears. Maybe Ellen's project will save gorillas in the wild, it's certainly worth the try. This is an extraordinary moment, turning money into a fighting chance for survival. Thank you for posting this!

Fuck Gorillas, save kids.

I really think it’s worthwhile saving wildlife but when I hear 4 million dollars I can only think of the good that could do in saving people.

I don’t know where to draw a line; fresh water, lights and health services for people or the protection of wildlife.

So Ellen get $4,000,000 and ??? :?
She already rich. What is the point here?? Wildlife Fund charity? CEO of that charity make him/her self rich for the rest of their lives ?

Can someone else explain. I can’t believe he doesn’t understand the process of donations. #-o

Fuck Gorillas, save kids.

Some people have a limited capacity to only care about their own countrymen, or their own race, or their own class.

I view a narrow sense of community as a notable moral flaw.

So this was not tongue-in-cheek.

It won't save you.

So Ellen and Portia have a fleet of gas guzzling, luxury automobiles and fly via a private jet to their collection of mansions, as do most of these eco warrior celebrities, but us common people have to protect the environment and reduce our carbon foot print. Lol!!!

^ Neither will your community: the community doesn't save individuals.

Only the "species" or the "lineage", the "seed", that is, any form of ONE individual, that is why it is call in the singular: "community".
And the most self-proclaimed anticommunists are the most fervent "communists".

Someone sounds bitter and jealous and really didn't get the point of the OP at all.

Yes, the point is charity: we get it.

It's the American way: a few good people self-complacently saving the rest of the poor helpless world from the bad people, and all the bad things in general.-

While some smartass fartsy European bastards rant about it.

And we're all thankful that no primate posted "Fuck Kids, Save Gorillas." Small wonder though.

Not all primates can be saved.

As to Degeneres' or Kutcher's carbon footprint, the cheese is being pared too thinly. Both are justly renowned for their philanthropy.

For the good they do, they can ride on endangered owls whose tail feathers are on fire for all I care. They do a vast amount of good with their means.

I don't expect people to be Gandhi. Gandhi wasn't very good at getting people to be Gandhi. All men have feet of clay. It's more fair to weigh them in the whole as to their merits. I repair to a maudlin old favorite to make the point:

Abou Ben Adhem

By Leigh Hunt

Abou Ben Adhem (may his tribe increase!)
Awoke one night from a deep dream of peace,
And saw, within the moonlight in his room,
Making it rich, and like a lily in bloom,
An angel writing in a book of gold:—
Exceeding peace had made Ben Adhem bold,
And to the presence in the room he said,
"What writest thou?"—The vision raised its head,
And with a look made of all sweet accord,
Answered, "The names of those who love the Lord."
"And is mine one?" said Abou. "Nay, not so,"
Replied the angel. Abou spoke more low,
But cheerly still; and said, "I pray thee, then,
Write me as one that loves his fellow men."

The angel wrote, and vanished. The next night
It came again with a great wakening light,
And showed the names whom love of God had blest,
And lo! Ben Adhem's name led all the rest.

Help people. Help the planet. Find your own way to do it.

Sure. Ellen rents a plane to fly around her hood, pulling a banner saying, "I 💛 You!" to Portia on their anniversary. That's so environmentally friendly. As for their philanthropy, when you learn the top tier tax laws, you'll see that they actually MAKE more money when they strategically donate to charity.

God has a hard time asking people to be godly, go figure about the fate of poor Gandhi getting people to be Gandhi.

It would have been far easier if Gandhi has just asked to be prayed to... or pray Someone else under his guidance.

For every one mountain gorilla on the planet there are approximately 8,556,818 people.

If you counted to 8,556,818 by the second (that is, for each mountain gorilla) it would take you just over 99 days.

In short, there's plenty of us and not so many of them.

It's narcissism, stupidity, malice and selfishness that will extinguish them forever.

^ So your point is not about saving lives, but about preserving rare specimens...
