I agree that everyone should care about this, especially all GLBT people. My issues with certain aspects of the gay community aside, it's wrong.

The police raid isn't any joke and could have easily have happened in New York. I hope all those fuckers get punished but you never know, the cops could get away with this one..they've pulled off worse.

OK, that guy's a loser asshole. I recall being QUITE upset at the death of James Bird; in fact at several events I went to, Matthew Shepard and James Bird were mentioned in the same breath, as two cases of the same problem.

So he's a fucktard, and should be treated as one; but there are gay people in Texas who are neither spineless nor inclined to leave, who are fighting the good fight on a daily basis. It's the state that lost Lawrence; it's also the home state of the people who fought that case all the way to the SCOTUS. Remember that.

I've read some posts that are saying Texas is a backwater or the poster is saying he's glad he doesn't live in Texas. Well, Texas is the second or third largest state in the United States population-wise and Dallas/Fort Worth or the Metroplex, as they call it down there, is home to over a million people. If a police raid can happen in DFW, then it might happen in your city next be it Atlanta, Salt Lake City, Raleigh or Tucson.

According to the US Census Bureau, the Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington MSAT has 6.3 million people. Texas also has one of the largest subeconomies within the US -- California is the biggest, and either New York or Texas is #2 (I can't remember which one)

This is indeed a big issue. An unwarranted raid happening in such a significant part of the country is a problem, not to just those who live in Fort Worth, but to all of us. You can't sit there and say "well, they're a bunch of rednecks who should fuck off and die." There are hundreds of thousands of gays who live in Dallas/Fort Worth and need our support, no matter whether they're in the closet or open.
