I think Balcaphair (sp?) didn't have evil intentions. I think he got caught up in something he couldn't sustain and needed a way out.

Jason, Robertac was a great guy. Everyone here really liked him. I gave him a lot of credit for coming clean and I think he tried to stay but couldn't handle it. I hope he comes back some day. He was a sweet guy.

I saw Andreus at Christos in Minneapolis last week. He was enjoying a bowl of avgolemono and he looked well. He was with a woman and two small children who looked just like him. Life goes on, I guess.

In my heart I wanted to believe in the realty of ballcaphair, my head has serious doubts. But ultimately, it's not important... he was a very thoughtful, compassionate person who tried to do the right thing in his persona here, and I have never heard anyone say different... whatever drove him I do believe there was real inner decency. It's true, there so is just so much nastiness, cynicism and negativity in the real world. So whatever the truth, why does it matter so much? I'd understand if he were using people and manipulating them for selfish ends, but in my PMs and comments from Chris(whatever his real name... that's the name he said was his) I saw a striving person aware of his personal flaws but doing his level best to try to make this world a better place, even if just a little. I saw someone with a good heart, and someone who never treated me or anyone I would see here on the boards with anything but respect, courtesy, and decency. That's it from me about him.

Thank you for saying what I believe also. My time on the JUB was enhanced by his being here too. There are so many others for which I can not say the same.

I know ballcaphair's real name, along with willhunt's. I've been in touch with BCH's twin brother, and several of his friends. I've read the obit. Yes, he was real. Yes, he died in a climbing accident.

I can understand the skepticism. Though we would prefer to feel that JUB is a kind of 'safe place', with friends that we've gotten to know, and come to care about, perhaps even rely on, this IS the internet after all. What I can't quite fathom is the intensity of the snide prodding, and inferred derision.

What's the point? What is being attempted to be proven here, and why? Are we really all that cynical? Are we still checking for monsters under our beds before we go to sleep? Has our sense of basic decency, consideration, and compassion, been thrown into the mud of sensationalism, where doubt and insinuation carries the most weight?

Who, or what, can we believe anymore if we continue to promote "righteous indignity", supported by mere suspicion? Since some of you so highly doubt the veracity of your fellow members, how can we have any confidence in You?

I wasn't around during this mini-shitstorm last year and it took a fair bit of rummaging to work out what it was all about. I never interacted with either of the characters involved so I won't take sides. However, if you've read the obituary you have it in your power to silence the doubting Thomases by retrieving it and posting it here. Obliterate personal details if you want to. I don't understand why you haven't done this already. Do the right thing and settle the matter once and for all. If you don't, it will look as if you're bluffing.

I've got no emotional investment in any of this. I'm merely curious.
