the dislike of tattoo's...

It is only your labeling that is making it so. Your point is moot. You say it is shown throughout history as being a bad thing, we say is shown as a status symbol and other “positive” things.

You say “do some research” when we ask for proof. We already have shown that history agrees with us more than you. You are basically saying a few “bad guys” had tattoos and did “bad” things, so all people with tattoos must be bad. If you were to go with that logic on a reasoning test you would fail. Whether you are biased by “bad people” or tattoos I don’t know, but you are biased.

>>>Let's face it, his sleeve tattoo is grotesque and the others are ill conceived at best. I think it's great for people to say their tattoos are of a personal nature or hold special meaning, but that does not mean their tattoos are immune from being ugly OR that their tattoos do not diminish the overall appearance of their bodies.

But, see, YOU think the sleeve tattoo is grotesque. YOU think so. And that's fine. Other guys might find it a massive turn-on. Mentioning that "tattoos diminish the overall appearance of their bodies" indicates there is one standard by which attractiveness is measured - yours. The fact is that anything one does to one's body - be it tattooing, "manscaping", piercing, or even just combing the hair a bit differently - is going to result in some people liking it more and some people liking it less. All that matters is whether the person doing it likes it.

Lex

You still haven't answered responded to the remark about the Michael Jackson example. Some things are grotesque and ugly because they are grotesque and ugly. Do you think the doctors who destroyed Michael Jackson's face were justified in doing so because he "liked it?"

How the hell am I dreaming.

My response to the history showing is this.

GET OVER IT.

If you ALWAYS look back and do nothing but look back and if every little action or thing makes you keep looking back you will NEVER be able to look forward and see what's in front of you.

The point is times have changed so much. Things aren't what they used to be. You can live in the past and say "Well this has always meant this so obviously it hasn't changed." But it has changed greatly.

And people aren't "branding themselves" with a curse mark or something of the sort. People are finding more and more ways to express themselves or be creative. Maybe that's something you don't understand. No one is marking themselves as a bad person by getting a tattoo. And they don't "complain" that society doesn't accept them because for the most part they are accepted. It's just a few close minded extremists that try to think that the world is a certain way and for some odd reason believes that everyone will think that way.

Ugh i hate all forms of tattoos its a shame how everyone is getting them these days with out even thinking about it. Its so annoying seeing a cute guy and you look at his arm and/or legs and he looks like he took an ink bath covered in ink. and 50 percent of the time it looks like a blind person has done the work.

Now all four of those guys they have cute faces but their tattoos is a major turn off thats pushing it.

This is kind of the point i was making out in the OP. That i have been in situations were people have openly said to me they dispise/hate tattoos. I show them mine, then the whole 'oh no, i like those ones' or 'oh, yours are very good, i like yours' show comes up.

Hmm it's kinda only emphasizes what I said. Most tattoos do *only* look good on nice bodies. Don't need to be over muscular or so, but at least defined. A tribal on thin scrawny arms? Not looking good. Something fierce on your abs .. you know .. you should have abs to make a good impression with that. If you don't have the body for it stick to something smaller on the shoulder or your calves.
Also .. *you* have a motive with enough space for the skin to be seen (compare my earlier post ;) )

Oh and THEN .. then there are still some really ugly ass tattoos that look fucking crappy on *anybody*

I thought very long and hard about getting my two tats, and I thought very long and hard as to what I wanted them to be, and I was in my early 50s when I chose to do so.

They are uniquely PERsonal to me, and as such, also have GREAT meaning to me.

They are an OUTward manifestation of an INward position and passion.

Not only THAT, but they have been conversation starters and the one has, in some cases, allowed me to share some GAY history.

The other has generated numerous compliments.

I didn't GET my tats to "impresse" anyone, I GOT them to MAKE a statement without making a statement, but they have LED to me making statements.

As such, I could give a flying fuck if people like them and find it necessary within their own ethos to brand me as something "ugly" or not. As mentioned, they're not FOR them, but FOR me, and I wear them Proudly and Purposefully and to be counted.

The one especially to me, is a brand of honour.

Here they are... you figure it out.

I understand the rainbow note.

But the pink triangle. Is that what I think it is.

What do you think it is?

I realize that it's the "Pink Triangle" which gay's were required to wear by Nazi's.

But I just can't comprehend why you'd put that on your arm Pianist. Is there a certain reason for doing so?

It's not a bad thing. But I'm just curious as to why you wear it.

That is YOUR perception that tattoos symbolize violence and pain. It's funny that most of the people I've talked to about their tattoos say they have personal meaning...hmm...

Anyway, I personally like tattoos. They don't look as good on just about anyone but that's merely my opinion and judgement. If someone feels good with their tattoos who am I to tell them they should stop doing 'em or should never have done them in the first place? As long as you're happy and not hurting anyone...who cares!

Tattoos, for me, are, generally, a turn-on actually. Some guys look even hotter with tattoos. The guy in question looks madly hot...hotter with the tattoos IMO.

It's my poppy. I wear it in remembrance of those who have gone before, and for those who are dying and abused today. It was a stigma, I wear it in defiance and proudly. I wear it to be counted and identified... not to my Gay Brethern, but for those who continue to villify and demonize us today.

And, as mentioned, people have asked what it represents, what it's about and I get a chance to explain. I know a Jewish woman who was surprised to hear about it and she had NO idea of its source. It gave her pause for thought. Cool lady. I know her daughter quite well, sang with choir, straight woman, very cool as well. Celebrated Yom Kippur with her... it was quite enjoyable. I digress.

Wow Pianist. That is really cool and honorable of you. You pointed out another point for doing so as well. To remind or educate people. It's easy to forget "Oh yeah that thing that happened in history a long time ago. I forgot it." But to have a symbolic reminder of it everyday and to have an opportunity to teach people who don't know about it or to REMIND people is a very powerful and needed thing.

Thank you. Thank you very much.

:)
