We, the people, declare today that the most evident of truths – that all of us are created equal – is the star that guides us still; just as it guided our forebears through Seneca Falls, and Selma, and Stonewall; just as it guided all those men and women, sung and unsung, who left footprints along this great Mall, to hear a preacher say that we cannot walk alone; to hear a King proclaim that our individual freedom is inextricably bound to the freedom of every soul on Earth.
Stonewall? At a presidential inauguration? Thank you Mr. President!what a great, smaller inauguration appropriate to a second term and to get straight to work for the challenges of our times. I am proud to have voted for a president who stands for the ideals of inclusion, equality, and innovation for the future. There wasn't a single principle he stated in his speech that i disagreed with.
And wow!
For the first time in american history, president obama singled out our gay community and told the nation that they will never be equal until they recognize us as equal citizens. That was a huge gesture. That was a defining moment in our civil rights history, and i wish some of you would have acknowledged that more, than harp on your disagreements with a political party. You have no idea just how significant that moment was to our civil rights history.
I wonder if Barry picks his nose.Obama's first day of his second administration is so boring to the 85% that they have to trash a former first lady.
It's going to be a long 1461 days. The countdown begins.
Barry did screw up the oath ..... again.
Anything about teleprompters should be in the Fetish forum.Barry did screw up the oath ..... again.
Where's your best friend, the teleprompter, when you need him.
I didn't watch yesterday, but was there an actual oath taken?
I'd have thought that would have been redundant since the legal inauguration and swearing-in was on Sunday.
Make sure you don't follow him blindly.
Obama evolved in his support for gay rights after being forced to by Biden -- otherwise he'd still be evolving. He had no choice.
The Ceremony was absolutely positively fantastic. The Sea of Flags waving along the Mall was a sight to see. I don’t recall ever seeing citizens wave Flags during an Inauguration…Great idea by the Inaugural committee.. Activist Myrlie Evers-Williams gave what I felt was a thought provoking and memorable Invocation. The message was universal and was fitting for the Inaugural theme. Poet Richard Blanco did a good job delivering an original poem and I liked how he added a bit of his own story. I’m going to read his poem online before I give his oral recitation another listen to.
President Obama’s speech was Powerful and he touched on things we never expected him to mention. He was VERY direct, spoke in plain English and the entire world listening in should feel inspired. I am so Proud he’s our President and I’m looking forward to more great things to come from his Administration.
Compare and contrast: When our lord and savior St. Ronald Wilson Regan announced his candidacy for president, he made the announcement from Philadelphia, Mississippi - the place where Medgar Evers was murdered. How uniquely Republican!Activist Myrlie Evers-Williams gave what I felt was a thought provoking and memorable Invocation.
Hey, guys, did you hear that your president supported your right to equal treatment under the law? Make sure you thank him with more bashing![]()
