the last film you watched thread

Ugh, Saw 3D. I'm that big of a fan, but my boy is. The acting was atrocious and the 3D was cheap, not exactly surpassing expectations here. But the gross factor didn't really disappoint, so I suppose that's all that really counts. I hadn't seen any past the third, but it seems when these films started out they weren't only gory, but just FELT a bit more demented, and kinda messed with your head a bit. This one was just lame. The characters were lame, some of which had nothing to do with anything. Either this film makes me think the first actually had something to it, or I and audiences alike have just grown more callous to watching people suffer so much that we don't need to think about their suffering, just find the suffering entertaining in general.

MacGruber. Not as funny as I'd hoped. Just kinda silly. The same few jokes repeated throughout, and not too funny of jokes at that. I laughed a little bit but I can't remember what at. Where's the SNL Kristen Wiig movie? She's the funniest cast member in years with little to do in this rather unnecessary movie. Something based on any one of her sketches would be better than this.

I got Donnie Darko out a bit ago to watch tonight since I thought it would be a good Halloween movie.

But then I came into this thread and thought about it...and I think Donnie Darko was the last movie I watched before today as well. It was a few weeks ago but I honestly can't think of any other movie I've recently watched.

Social Network was the last movie I saw in theaters though.

A BBC documentary I hadn't heard of--A State of Mind, on the staging of North Korea's version of Avatar, the stadiumtastic Mass Games. Though the documentary seems to compromise its discretion, it remains fascinating given the premium on access to the DPRK.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo last night.

Going to watch The Girl Who Played with Fire tonight.

Charlie St Cloud :-) oh ZAC... the movie wasn't a masterpiece but he was amazing...

I watched 2 movies while at work today....

The Kids Are All Right

Nice Guy Johnny

The Kids Are All Right was a great film...if Annette Benning and Julianne Moore (more so Benning) don't get nominated for Best Actress then it's a damn shame.

Nice Guy Johnny was an enjoyable film...nothing amazing...but it wasn't bad by any means...I thought the guy that played Johnny and Kerri Bishe(from Scrbus 2.0) were great in it.

Recently saw Galaxy Quest, Sam Rockwell and Justin Long were pretty cute, and funny too!

Hausu.
Only passable as a movie, but as a typhoon of imagery, extraordinary. (ww)

If you are going to make a film as provocatively ugly as Funny Games (1997, original version) then it should be in the service of some greater idea. If not, the shock comes off as trite. This is trite...and pretentious to boot.

Due Date- Kind of funny. I found myself laughing at things the audience wasn't, and the audience laughing when I wasn't. It's basically Planes, Trains, and Automobiles, but the characters just aren't particularly likable. Galifinakis is funny. Downey jr.'s character is just an unforgivable asshole though. I'm pretty sure he's supposed to seem redeemed by the end, but I didn't buy it.

Splice- Mostly disappointing. I read this being compared to the Fly, but it comes off a bit more like Species, albeit less enjoyable. A forgettable, miscast film with an intriguing concept and decent script.

The Human Centipede- I rarely enjoy horror movies, especially modern ones, and never consider them "scary". But this movie completely exceeded my expectations of modern horror. What seems like merely a cringe-worthy concept heated up with a couple bimbos, a little blood, and a creepy villain ends up being a well-paced and admittedly "scary" experience.

Had some downtime today, so I watched "Muppets Take Manhattan". Yeah, I'm so cultured.

Didn't get around to seeing it in theaters, but I just watched Paranormal Activity. Not the scariest movie in the world, but for what it was, it was well-done.

Y'all are gonna shoot me for this one, but I watched "A Christmas Carol" (1951 version with Alistair Sims). Yes, yes I know: "It's only November 11th!!!"

1976's The Food of the Gods. A scene with gigantic killer poultry is fun but the rest is turgid. Apparently, a new version is in the works.
