the last film you watched thread

Just got back from The Social Network, and it was awesome. I almost didn't want to watch it, but finally reconsidered, and I'm glad I did.

1989's The Church from director Michele Soavi. I think it's worth watching just to listen to Philip Glass in an 80's Italian horror setting (one track even performed by Goblin.) Fun clockwork imagery.

I had the afternoon to kill, so I watched this for the bazillionth time...

So terrible that Howard Ashman, responsible for some of the songs and even a producer for the movie, had to pass away before the premiere of the film; he never saw the final product.

Bronson- Based on a true story I knew nothing about and I have no idea how truthful it is, but it was damn good. It was very stylized, and structured much like a play. The acting was superb. Nudity, violence, cool music: all things I enjoy in films. Highly recommend to those attracted to big beefy British prison inmates stripping down and oiling up before doing things like beating men to a pulp or creating art.

The White Ribbon- An absolute classic. I've never loved Haneke, but this film is just superb! Very worthy of its Palmde D'or. Bleak but beautiful.

The Social Network- Made me hate my generation.

In the Realm of the Senses- Beautiful, erotic, and ultimately disturbing. Where's the gay version?

Added to my queue.

1977's Shock Waves. Blonde-haired aquatic zombies wearing goggles plague a shipwrecked group of pleasureboaters on a deserted Caribbean island. Somehow, not very good.

Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps,

I quite enjoyed it in those moments when I understood wtf they were talking about.

Last new movie? The Social Network. I actually...really loved it! I thought the ending was a little anticlimactic though, but it didn't ruin the rest of it in the least bit.

Last movie of any movie I saw was Mrs. Doubtfire last night as I got into bed. One of my favorites.

The Eyes of Laura Mars (1978 ). This glossy Hollywood thriller still holds up well (even with the dated clothing/hairsyles). Faye Dunaway lapses into histrionics a number of times which amps up the camp value.

Babies.

I rented the Blu-ray of it. For those who don't know it is a documentary about how babies are raised in different parts of the world. Very adorable and a lot of fun.

Saw 3D

It was entertaining for what it was. A good 'leave your brain at the door' kinda movie.

I've never been the Cronenberg fan that many people are. So I was unexcited to watch Scanners which I haven't seen since I was a teenager.

What a terrific surprise. It'd be petty of me to cite its faults in light of its excellences.

Have you seen Cronenberg's early horror films, specifically Rabid and Shivers? They're both good and fun to watch. Looking at them both today they have some cheezy moments, but it was the 70s afterall! The Brood was his first real masterpiece.

It's been awhile. I may have to add back some more Cronenberg to my cue to re-watch. The Brood is overdue, maybe I'll throw Rabid in also.

Shivers, with its superior US release title They Came from Within, is especially memorable. :hump:How come the premise hasn't been exploited more?

Well, let's see. It's Halloween, so I watched:

1. Mad Monster Party:

2. The Disney version of Ichabod Crane:

3. And of course, It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown:

I usually watch the 1931 Dracula (Bela Lugosi), but I guess I'm going to miss it this year.

My last movie was LA Confidential and I was surprised at how good it was. And what a stellar cast.

David Lean's Great Expectations. Simple elements combined to brilliant effect.

"All other swindlers upon earth are nothing to the self-swindlers, and with such pretenses did I cheat myself. Surely a curious thing." :luv:
