the last film you watched thread

The Impossible. It's a total crime this masterpiece didn't get more recognition in North America. Warning- will make you cry like a baby.

I watched "Limitless" recently. It was an interesting film and I rather enjoyed it. The ending was a bit weak though. I would probably not watch it again.

Michael Moore's a good filmmaker.

I like his politics, too.

Star Trek into Darkness Imax 3D

I was entertained. Just like the previous one, the main cast is the highlight. But I wasn't thrilled with much of the story. It's another Damon Lindeloff story where he throws in red herrings and simple twists that makes him look like a smarter writer than he really is. I didn't read any spoilers before, but still I wasn't entirely surprised at the twists. Anyone can take a classic movie and turn things around as plot points for a new movie. In the longterm, I don't think this movie, nor the villain, will be remembered as fondly as the movie it hooked into.

Seing the many closeups of Pine's dreamy blue eyes was wonderful.

A mundane unfamiliarity proves to be a precipice of mystery. Peter Weir's The Last Wave (1977).

I saw Hangover III. I enjoyed it but it wasn't a great movie, just enjoyable and one you'll forget about before long.

In theaters - Star Trek: Into Darkness. Having never seen the first one(what can I say, not a Trekkie), I have to say I was very impressed - impressed enough to want to watch the first one now. Thought it was quite solid, and my movie-ADD never kicked in.

At home - Here Comes The Boom. I'm NOT a fan of Kevin James, but this movie is better than I thought it would be even if it's hokey as all hell at times. Sometimes, you just need a mindless comedy.

There are only a couple of directors who I like and admire as much as Tarkovsky.

Andrei Rublev (1966). A 15th century painter is silenced by the brutal idiocy of the world.

In the extreme isolation of Siberia trappers earn their livelihood. The skills and fortitude their work requires are a marvel.

Happy People: A Year in the Taiga (2010).

Co-directed and narrated by Werner Herzog.

Star Trek Into Darkness

I worshiped it. And I absolutely love how the alternate timeline messes with the history.

(You have to watch it in 3D. IMAX, if possible.)

The Amazing Spider Man.

I so much prefer Andrew Garfield to Tobey Maguire.

I liked The Amazing Spiderman because it was much closer to the comic than the Spiderman series played by Tobey Maguire. I did not like Tobey Maguire's version of Spiderman because in his version, the web was excreted out of his body. In the comic, a mechanical instrument was used to shoot out the web. The Amazing Spiderman followed this.

I also like Andrew Garfield's Spiderman because he played it a bit more flippantly - as it would be, as Spiderman was a teenager. But I was a bit disappointed with Andrew Garfield's version of Spiderman because I did not hear his uncle advising "With great power comes great responsibility".

Roman officer Severus loves Sebastiane, but Sebastiane loves Jesus. Loincloths ahoy!

Derek Jarman's Sebastiane (1976).

I watched The Hangover Part 3 yesterday. I liked it but not as much as the first two, which were raunchier and funnier, imo.
