The latest gallup polls

laikaNYC, thanks again buddy!

We're going to have to work together more often!

I put a line through my original text, and highlighted the changes in bold. ..|

Jay I absolutely agree with you here on all points.

I think Obama's biggest challenge should be convincing all of those "New Democrats;" youth, independents, moderate republicans, and just Americans who were in General tired of Bush and the tired GOP Message back in 2008 to give him a second term in 2012.

Here's the poll that was posted in the link that Ninja108 linked to when he created this thread:

GallupAugust2011.png

If anything the poll represents just how apoplectic Americans are to the current State of our Union.

However, I'm pretty confident that if either of the GOP candidates that are currently being bantered about should win the GOP Primaries next year, Obama will still win.

Not anywhere near the margins that he won back in 2008, but he'll still win.

Not because I foresee the Democrats and President Obama finally getting their shit together, but because the only victories that the Republican Party seem to be making is protecting the wealthiest Americans at all costs, and their willingness to put their Party and their ideology over the interests of most of the rest of Americans, and America in principle.

Given that kind of choice, Americans generally continue to "dance with the one who brung 'em."

Back in 2004, with two wars being waged, and the first signs of the economy going into to the toilet with Republican lead deficit spending, that there was no way that Bush could get a second term.

But he did. ..|

The electorate waited until 2006 to end the 12 year Republican Revolution by take the Congressional Majority away from the Republicans, and giving both Houses of Congress back to the Democrats.

And the GOP still didn't learn anything. [strike]They ran McCain/Palin in 2008, and lost the Presidency by one of the biggest landslides since LBJ beat Goldwater in 1964.[/strike]

They ran Bob Dole, and Jack Kemp back in 1996 and got lost in a Landslide!
[thanks laikaNYC, see above]

Some would argue that the GOP stole the election in 2000 since Bush didn't win the popular vote, and SCOTUS ultimately decided the winner.

So What did the Republicans do? Bush43 in the White House, both Houses of Congress controlled by the Republicans?

They Ran American like they had a mandate from the Whole of America.

They went even further to the right during the Congressional Races of 2010, and the Democrats pretty much sat on their hands losing Congress, while barely hanging on to the Senate.

Politically the Democrats should be capitalizing on that, but in the "art of compromise" they've only moved further to the Right in an attempt to meet "the crazy" that passes for and to avoid a true political debate in our country.

Those facts alone should be reason for the Democrats to lose.

At least the Republicans are "on message," even if all that that message is "making sure that Obama is a one term president."

Right now I think that poll represents that America is a ship without a rudder, or an effective captain.

My Grandpa use to say, "If you don't stand for something, then you'll fall for anything."

Right now I don't see Democrats standing for much of anything, other than attempting to be a bulwark against the complete dismantling of every progressive issue and item that was hard fought and won during the past century.

That those polled are willing to vote for anyone candidate that they think could either get us out of this mess, or the candidate that most effectively panders to their fears, or against the candidate that most or least panders to their fears, is not the Hope and Change that many Americans voted for 3+ years ago. [-X

See true partisanship.

What?

You think that I like voting for the lesser or two evils all the time?

Who could blame Americans for voting Republican?

They're like the abused boyfriend/girlfriend that keeps coming back for more, while their true love can't seem to commit. ;)

Nah -- Obama is just a derailment. McCain would have been a train wreck.

You have absolutely no way to determine what McCain would and wouldn't have done because he didn't win the Presidency.

If there is any way for you to determine that, I will pay you for your idea so I can make millions off of knowing how to go back in time, alter past events and then witness the alternative future outcome.

The pro Obama play is that the other side is worse

that's it

course he's had 3 years to be "better"

and he hasn't

his leadership has been for shit - so ballsy on OBL but so meek with Tea Party Repubs

who can figure

He talked about "change"

it's time for "change"

not him

he has had his chance (no pun intended - he's not my type)

the dems should run up a real leader against him
i venture to say that hillary or plan B moderate dem would win big

as the repubs have little going for them

would be good for the country

not to reelect a man who has not succeeded

we should re-elect him because the unknown is worse?

damn

if that's the sales pitch i'd hate to be a shareholder in that co.

I think this thread should be transferred to the "Fetish" department. Sort of like a dog chasing its own tail. Very hot. *|*

Anyone who gets excited over one or two polls does not know anything about polling. Polls are the most useful when they signify trends over long periods of time. For example, when George W. Bush ran against Al Gore in 2000, the polls kept shifting back and forth over a period of MONTHS - indicating that it was going to be a close election. :D

Chris I can get excited over one Pole... so I dont know how many it tales for you to be happy but damn gurl I would be tellin ebbybody

Has everyone forgotten that Obama Repealed DADT, which will be fully in place as of September 20th of this year? Sure, he didn't do it the way we wanted, but never the less, he did it as promised to the LGBT Community.

My job of 22 years got repealed under Obama as well. Close to 20 percent of the population is in the same boat. Maybe we can all join the military now. That may be the only way to find a job. When the wars are over and hopefully they will finally end some day soon and we don't need as many in the military we are going to be in big trouble unless the economy has rebounded. It is time to create tax and monetary policies that encourage companies to move their jobs back to the US and prevent more companies from leaving. Tax cuts should be targeted toward those who create jobs be they wealthy or middle class. If a wealthy man sits on his money and creates no jobs he should get no tax cuts in fact a small percentage of increase as an incentive would be fine (say five %). If a wealthy man puts Americans to work and the new workers pay taxes then and only then should the wealthy get a break. We need creative incentives to create jobs and paying less taxes is a hell of an incentive but the tax cuts should be earned by benefiting the country as a whole.
