The Looming November 23rd Deadline

Total cash holdings by American corporations (non-financial) exceeds $2 trillion, with nearly another $1 trillion kept offshore to avoid paying taxes on repatriating it. Corporations are sitting on record amounts of cash as a % of their historical needs. Without demand, there's little incentive to use cash to expand and hire.

WARNING: ANECDOTE ALERT! #-o
I used to work for Osco Drug on a part-time basis. During my tenure, I couldn't help but notice that customers were waiting in line way too long, and they appeared to be annoyed by the wait. I asked my manager if he could extend our hours or hire a couple more clerks, he said, "no" - Reason? Too much overhead. It would upset the shareholders. I held it in, but what I wanted to say was, "what about the customers? Without customers, there wouldn't be any shareholders." #-o

chris I work in "Middle Super Center" management for Walmart.

I can all but promise you that there's NOTHING that Walmart does within its day to day operations that take the needs of their customers beyond "Save More, Live Better."

Each store is about maximizing their profit, and getting customers in the door isn't their concern since each Super Center has killed any competition that they may have previously had.

Walmart America currently "employees" more Americans than the Federal Government.

Walmart IS Corporate America.

And just like the coal mines, nearly 80% of Walmart Associates take whatever meager "pay" that they make every two weeks and spend it right back where they made it.

Any attempts that have been made by associates to "organize" into a "union?"

Walmart ties things up in "negotiating" while shutting down the stores where employees "organized" claiming that those store were no longer "profitable."

It's not about "customers" anymore.

And as it is in Washington, it's no longer about the "electorate" or the American People; it's about power, politics, and "what's in it for me."

So why am I contining to pursue a career with Walmart (you might ask)?

If you can't beat them, join them. Where I live that's were the money is at, especially if you have a degree and no one else is currently hiring.

Maybe I can make a difference somewhere in that environment.

Loverly world the GOP envisions.

Job creators

what a load of shit

The Republicans in Congress are like a guy driving a car that's swerving out of control and heading for a hairpin turn, who when told to let off the gas because his driving is dangerous, screeches, "But we'll slow down!"

Maybe someone should organize a nationwide "99% Union". If they could get five million people, they could do some strikes that would really hurt.
BUT -- no strikes against local small businesses, only against the big guys.

Anecdote alert....

I talked with a guy today who is so bored of sitting at home and frustrated at walking the pavement looking for jobs that he offered to work for free for a local business, just to be occupied during the day. But business regulations won't let the owner do that . . .

Simply dismissing the committee and undoing the sequester would be such a vast admission of Congressional failure that it could push down the nation’s credit rating, lead to chaos in financial markets and severely cripple hopes for an economic recovery. Republicans created the policies that forced up the deficit and then refused to compromise with President Obama. They cannot simply walk away now. Panel members have only a few days to come up with a plan that balances new revenues with spending cuts. That is the only way to wrestle down the deficit without doing huge damage to the economy and the country.
