WARNING: ANECDOTE ALERT!
I used to work for Osco Drug on a part-time basis. During my tenure, I couldn't help but notice that customers were waiting in line way too long, and they appeared to be annoyed by the wait. I asked my manager if he could extend our hours or hire a couple more clerks, he said, "no" - Reason? Too much overhead. It would upset the shareholders. I held it in, but what I wanted to say was, "what about the customers? Without customers, there wouldn't be any shareholders."
chris I work in "Middle Super Center" management for Walmart.
I can all but promise you that there's NOTHING that Walmart does within its day to day operations that take the needs of their customers beyond "Save More, Live Better."
Each store is about maximizing their profit, and getting customers in the door isn't their concern since each Super Center has killed any competition that they may have previously had.
Walmart America currently "employees" more Americans than the Federal Government.
Walmart IS Corporate America.
And just like the coal mines, nearly 80% of Walmart Associates take whatever meager "pay" that they make every two weeks and spend it right back where they made it.
Any attempts that have been made by associates to "organize" into a "union?"
Walmart ties things up in "negotiating" while shutting down the stores where employees "organized" claiming that those store were no longer "profitable."
It's not about "customers" anymore.
And as it is in Washington, it's no longer about the "electorate" or the American People; it's about power, politics, and "
what's in it for me."
So why am I contining to pursue a career with Walmart (you might ask)?
If you can't beat them, join them. Where I live that's were the money is at, especially if you have a degree and no one else is currently hiring.
Maybe I can make a difference somewhere in that environment.
