The Lucille Ball Appreciation Thread

Re: Do we still Love Lucy?

I will always be a fan of Lucy.......I own the entire I Love Lucy series on dvd and just bought the first season of The Lucy Show......not the same, but still funny. I don't think there will ever be a time that she's not on tv somewhere in the world at any given time. Almost 60 years and STILL going!

Re: Do we still Love Lucy?

I will always love Lucy. The woman truly is the queen of comedy and when you look back at that show it's a wonder how advanced the program was for it's time. Not only did it center around an interracial relationship but it regularly reflected a feminist sentiment. But most importantly it was consistently hilarious. Even when you've seen an episode a hundred times you can't help but laugh the hundred and first time.

Re: Do we still Love Lucy?

My Fav Episode to this day is the 1 where the Ladies hold a raffle for a trip

Re: Do we still Love Lucy?

Who couldn't love Lucy! She just cracks me up!

Re: Do we still Love Lucy?

The Hallmark channel still airs I Love Lucy, it's on 12:30 my time which is mountain time. They are showing the Hollywood trip right now. I stay up late just to watch Lucy!!!(!)

Re: Do we still Love Lucy?

I will forever watch her show. I've spent most of my life watching it, why stop now.

I love their trip to Europe, especially to Paris.

Re: Do we still Love Lucy?

One of my all time faves that no one ever seems to mention is the charm school episode (with Natalie Schafer, Mrs. Howell, as the teacher) - extremely well made and funny. As someone mentioned, the tell-a-lie bit is funniest at Carolyn's when they gather to play bridge. The pioneer women episode is also good. There were some not as good, but they made 179 episodes, and many are wonderful.

Re: Do we still Love Lucy?

I Love Lucy was truly funny as was many of the comedy shows from that era. Sitcoms today are all about laughing at other people embarrassing themselves or making idiots out of themselves. I just don't think that's funny.

Re: Do we still Love Lucy?

Of course, I Love Lucy is a classic. Next up was The Lucy/Desi Comedy Hour, which were one-hour episodes featured once a month. After Lucy and Desi divorced, CBS premiered The Lucy Show. After several years, she changed the format to Here's Lucy. Each show after I Love Lucy was a decline. The Lucy Show didn't start off too bad, because you still had Lucille Ball and Vivian Vance, who were still very funny whether trying to use stilts to get into bunkbeds or trying to install an antanae on their roof. Once Viv left the show, it went downhill, with some of the worst supporting cast members ever. Here's Lucy was even worse, with those no-talent kids of hers. With all the scenery Gale Gordon chewed on those shows, it's a wonder the show had any sets left. But I Love Lucy still remains the best sitcom of all time.

Re: Do we still Love Lucy?

I can't stop loving Lucy. She was, is and will be the reigning Queen of Comedy.

I liked when she met Harpo, and when Lucy had Little Ricky. Just thinking about how Ricky, Fred and Ethel panicked is still funny.

The Lucy Show is funny too. I love this clip.

Re: Do we still Love Lucy?

I don't know anyone who doesn't still love lucy....i love vitametavegamin....and the chocolate factory, and basically every episode that ever aired....i remember watching it on Nick at Nite as a kid....

Re: Do we still Love Lucy?

There are really WAY too many to choose from, but here's 10 that I liked:

1) when Lucy tries to trick Ricky by wearing an Italian wig
2) when Lucy and Ricky try to break their 100-year lease
3) when Lucy and Ethel get stranded on top of the apartment after trying to cut the electric wire to the apartment so that Ricky and Fred can't watch the fights
4) when Lucy and Ethel buy a freezer and two sides of beef
5) In France, when Lucy's arrested for passing counterfeit money
6) When Ricky and Fred make fake fashions for Lucy and Ethel out of a flower pot, a horse feed bag and burlap sacks.
7) when Mario from Italy comes to visit his brother, and Lucy ends up working in the pizza parlor
8 ) when Lucy tries to get her birth certificate from Jamestown, NY
9) Aunt Martha's Old Fashioned Salad Dressing
10) when Lucy and Ethel try to paint and redecorate Fred and Ethel's apartment

It can be downloaded here.

Re: Do we still Love Lucy?

Of all the Lucy shows the one I love best is when Ricky loses his job. Lucy and the gang dress up various outfits to get Rick back at the club. Fred in drag is just to funny.

Does anyone else love "I Love Lucy"?

I'm wondering if anyone else feels the same way I do.......

Does anyone else love "I Love Lucy"? I watched that show (in re-runs) when I was growing up -- and I still find that show to be hilarious. It's the only show that I can watch over & over again -- and it still doesn't get old!

I get the feeling that Lucille Ball is some kind of "gay icon." All of the guys who have told me that they enjoyed watching "I Love Lucy" growing up (like me) -- are all gay men. Plus, you know there are some drag queen Lucy's out there.

Anyway, how can you not find this funny (even though it was filmed 60 years ago)?

Re: Does anyone else love "I Love Lucy"?

I loved to watch it while I was growing up and in re-runs through the ages. I haven't found any stations or networks that run it in years.

Re: Does anyone else love "I Love Lucy"?

Yes I Love Lucy! Grew up in her hometown of Jametown NY. She set the stage for the TV comedy.

No, I would't think so. She was ordinary in comparison to Eve Arden as 'Our Miss Brooks'~

Re: Does anyone else love "I Love Lucy"?

I think I can say that Beatrice Arthur modeled her TV persona on Eve Arden
