The Lucille Ball Appreciation Thread

On the 25th anniversary of Lucille Ball's passing, out of respect, I think this thread deserves a bump.

To me Lucy is someone special. I grew up in the hometown of Lucy, Jamestown NY. In 1957 got to see Lucy and Desi in person, when the they back for the world premier of Forever Darling. In was day we got out school to stand in the rain and snow to see the gal who made it big. Will never forget the opportunity of seeing Lucy.

My favorite Lucy show is when Desi loses his job and Fred, Ethel and Lucy dress in garb to get Desi back at the club. Fred in drag!

OMG, I remember that! Seeing Fred in a dress! :rotflmao:

As far as I can remember...she is the only famous person who I ever cried for when they died...a whole damn week on and off. I might have forgotten someone else but I don't think so.

She was a rare talent.

Fine memories. What's remarkable is that all of the aforementioned skits are still funny. Also, none of this humor was ever written at someone else's expense... always good-natured. Thanks, Lucy for all that you did to make us smile! :D

I'll never get tired of watching the show. If I'm awake I'll tune in to the Hallmark channel and watch a few episodes.

Lucy was not only a singer, dancer, and Movie Star, but also a Very accomplished executive, producer, and director. She was the true power behind Desilu Studios, not Desi. She was the one who came up with the 3 TV Camera set up, and most studio TV is still shot like that today.

She truly was an Awesome being! (group)

My gosh, has it really been 25 years?

The wonderful thing about Lucy is that she continues to live on in reruns...

And she is just as funny now as she was when any of her shows first aired.

I remember, as a kid, arguing with my parents to stay up until 9:30 on Monday nights, so that I could watch "Here's Lucy!" It didn't matter to me whether I was watching her as Lucy Magillacutty Riccardo, Lucy Carmichael, or Lucy Carter. It was still Lucy! :D

Lucy was when comedy was truly funny, not laughing at people embarrassing themselves like it is today.

^ Indeed. It truly was a 'Situation Comedy'. All of the comedy came out of situations in which Lucy and (a usually unwilling) Ethel found themselves.

JDC,
Thanks for creating and bumping this thread.

Lucy is truly the Grand Dame of Comedy.

I Love Lucy is one of the few oldies but goodies I'd watch. I used to watch it all the time on the Nick at Nite "Block Party Summer" things when I was growing up. "Lucy Tuesdays" were always my favorite.

Ty for this JDC,

She was definitely one of the comedic greats, but my favourite role was one of her last, Stone Pillow. Nothing funny about it.

Don't forget that it was Lucy that pretty much single-handedly saved Star Trek. The first (and pretty awful) pilot failed; it was Lucy that saw the potential and managed to get the second pilot made. And the rest is history.

Desilu Studios was also responsible for many, many other TV programs; and more used Desilu facilities for production, including The Andy Griffith Show, Mission Impossible, The Dick Van Dyke show and more.

Desilu was was responsible for some great television in the 1950s and 1960's. And yes, Star Trek was theirs!

I love how she always made fun of Ricky's English.

It was so intimate.

I love her so much.

Words can't describe what a "joy" she's been to my life.
