** The Offical 2008 MLB Thead!!! **

Yeah, if the Mets' can't beat the Cards in Spring Training, I'm sure they'll do fabulous. :p

A good point was brought up today on our local news. The Cards won 17 games in Spring Training. Every year they've won that many, they've made it to the playoffs.

Being the underdog can have its advantages
We're lulling the Cards into a false sense of security...we've got 'em exactly where we want them!Your starting pitchers have to hold the fort til Mulder and Carpenter are back to full strength, and Albert Pujols must stay healthy.I've joked about it before, but it IS the NL Central,so mediocre will probably win it there.I have read stuff about Albert's elbow that isn't good....one awkward swing could tear a ligament I believe.Hopefully that doesn't happen, and he can get halthy without surgery that will keep him out indefinitely.I wish the Cards well, until the Mets take care of them once and for all in the playoffs ...if they get that far!

(*8*)(because it ain't personal)!

Who - the Cards or the Mets???

:p

(sonny is not gonna like this...lol)

Hey!

I'll take the first series win of the season, after only playing three games!!! :D

(!)

(even though the stupid rain out on Monday would have made it a Cards sweep, I'll let it go....for now....)

Congrats babe, I am so happy for you. That rain was a bummer, it also killed Albert's homer #-o

The Phillies won their first yesterday as well, even if it was due to the stupidity of the Nats manager. I laughed my ass off when they walked in the winning run.
There was a great shot of Millidge and the guys looking out from the dugout
the expression on his face was priceless,
like " What the f#@k was that"?

Well,if you were able to get the win on Monday, you'd be getting too giddy about the season.Remember, our Mets are ready to wake Cards fans from their sweet dreams this October!

Another win for the birds on the bat! ..|

And, I'm sorry - why were the Royals unbeaten before tonight???

omg baseball has started....*drools over self*

a 4-1 record? I'll take it! ..|

Watching the Mets/Braves on Fox right now - you guys really needed those runs in the bottom of the 7th!

* edit -

um, next time I won't say a word. A grand slam...

11-5 loss to the Braves, and John Maine stinking up the house today,no less after a phenomenal spring traning....OUCH!

Congrats to your Cards on their great start,though....all kidding I do aside,I always did like them in the Central, along with the Houston Astros(Oh those gorgeous Killer B's)!:luv:Of course EXCEPT against the Mets!

Woo! A sweep of the Washington Nationals! I'll take it!

5-1...a great start to the season! Hopefully we can keep the momentum going when we head to Houston.

Rick Ankiel is on a tear, and he is pretty damn fine as well :D

The Cards all of a sudden good and the Royals too? What the hell is going on in the Show Me State?!!:p

I'm pissed off and glad I worked today instead of watching the Mets waste a very solid Santana effort.Heilman didn't do the job holding the fort and the offense stalled.I really do think the Mets are one impact offensive player short of having a solid if not dynamic lineup. But tablesetters like Jose Reyes and Luis Castillo have got to get on base consistently.I hate wasting good starting pitching!:grrr:

I hear you Sausy; it was a pathetic game yesterday.
With a Santana/Smoltz match up I expected a fast low scoring game. I did not expect the Mets offense to lie down and die.
It was not Santana who threw a bad game, cause he didn’t, It was the Mets offense. Not that they didn’t have opportunities with Smoltz, who gave up two walks (Wright and Belton), but even with that gift they could not bring either of them home. How sad when Santana doubled and moved to third only to have the top of the line up leave him out there and strand him.
We had some decent Defensive plays (Wright again) and even Pagan. But the team let Santana down.
When Smoltz left the game in the 6th I rubbed my hands together and thought we had a better chance of getting some base runners. Yeah, right

So now it’s the Phillies at Shea with Gomez Pelfrey and Maine with Santana back with an extra days rest on Saturday. By the way, I am not concerned about Maine’s first outing, he got roughed up but I think he will settle down on Thursday, he was just a little pumped up and seemed to have trouble throwin inside to the lefties, actually I thought he was up in the zone too much, and ya know middle of the order guys are gonna take advantage of that. His velocity was there but not his location. He will be fine.

Now those bats better get hot and fast is all I’m sayin.

We know Maine was due for a bad game....I just hoped the incredible streak lasted awhile longer!;)santana is fulfilling his end iof the bargain....you know Wright and if healthy Beltran will do the same. But it is essential if the Mets win this year that their offense kicks up a few gears. There is no excuse for not giving your best effort...for assuming you've got a lot of talent,so you will win because you're supposed to.We saw how that attitude screwed the Mets and their fans last year.It is a TEAM game, and pitching, offense, and defense must be in sync consistently. No one can win every game, but having the work ethic to play to win every game will take a good team a very long way.

Tomorrow is Opening day at Fenway!
That's all well and fine,Brad...but you do know that both you and I will be unable to follow the first three-game battle between the Sox and the Yanks because we will be otherwise involved in the festivities of the weekend?Well,at least it's at Fenway....the really good games will be the first meeting at Yankee Stadium this season!:p

Oh yeah,you mean regular season
:p

See me at the playoffs:roll:
We will.....your run of championships was nice while it lasted, but two a century are MORE than enough!:p

2 in 4 years, yeah,in must be too much for the rest of you....
Actually I don't mind....I love a worthy adversary,and if they win we'll be back next year.Plus when you've got Josh Beckett,Jason Varitek,Jonathan Papelbon,Dustin Pedroia,Jacoby Ellsbury.....not bad to look at!

2004 was a fluke brad. Remember? :p

2006 - you guys definitely deserved it. One of, if not the, best team in baseball.

I will eternally hate the Red Sox for 2004. That's just a given :D

Right now, I shall focus my rage on the Houston Astros for breaking our 5 game winning streak tonight :grrr:

Lance Berkman hits cardinals outta the sky with his damn hits...BOO!

What the Cards did to my Mets in 2006 doesn't exactly give me the warm and fuzzies, either!:(
