** The Offical 2008 MLB Thead!!! **

probably good to always include who the "we" is...;)

and I wish you all success and may that team of losers that you mention by name lose all their games..|

Gee I thought EVERYONE would know which team Cory (abs) refers to as "we".
I mean, the St. Louis Cards runs through that kids blood, bless him.:D

His passion for baseball and the Cards is absolut

Gee I thought EVERYONE would know which team Cory (abs) refers to as "we".

Actually, no, EVERYONE does not know.

With all respect, I am sure his close friends do and perhaps his more outer circle of friends but this is a message board. I had no idea that "absolute" is "abs" is "Cory." I have no idea who is favorite team is. I am not one of the in group.

I felt I politely asked that people identify their team when they say "we" so that this is not an in group posting but an accessible and welcoming thread on MLB baseball. I'd make an exception for you sir since you have the Mets logo as your avatar, so I know who your "we" is.

If you want people to post here, then lets be open to all. If this is a thread just for all those in the in group who know real names and who the "we" is then why is it in a thread open to all?

This is all meant nicely. I understand the goal was to build this forum to attract new posters.

Respectfully,Jack....if you even had seen Ab's posts, you would know he is a huge St.Louis Cardinals fan.Me and sonny are huge Mets fans.....we go back awhile with Abs(Cory) playing around with each other on our respective teams, but we hardly form an in-group.This thread is for every baseball fan here, that was Abs' intent. It's great to see how many different teams are being discussed here.....this is sports, not politics and you don't need to put on armor to get enjoyment out of this thread...relax and just have fun.

Respectfully Sausy if we are going to expand the posting base here, then people need to not assume that everyone has read all of their posts.

Does all of JUB's potential sports forum member shave to take a tst first to read all of my posts to know who my fav team is, or your post to know yours, etc?

You want fun and enjoyment? Then lets be open and inviting anf informative and not an in group.

Its the "we are so cool we don't need to explain" that causes people to not post here and why we lost this forum once.

This has nothing to do with any one person. The in group's defensiveness is high. What I said was be open and convey full information so a post and a thread make sense - "my Rockies won again" always makes more sense than "my team won, hurrah" ... so we have more then just the same three people posting over and over to their own selves and those "in the know."

And ah, why don't you relax and have fun - and be open to new people and new posters here in reality?

Sausy, at least you tried. I opted to ignore the post regarding the "in group" and dismiss it as nonsense.
I mean it is after all Cory's thread, it should be easy to see he is a Cards fan.
He doesn't get it, what-a-gonna-do.

Meanwhile isn't it great to see Willies team break out? I love the new irregular line up. ..|

Big decision to make on Tuesdsy when Pedro comes back, who goes, Pelfrey or Vargas ?
Pelfrey pitched pretty well on Saturday, but Vargas is more consistant. I would hate to see Pelfrey go down. it will wreck his self esteam. but he would also hate it in the pen.
Plus I would hate for Willie to have to decide in the 7th or 8th between Pelfry and Heilman.
Yikes, either way we prolly loose.
Except for Heilman,The pen has been producing well haven't they?
Especailly Wagner, who is my new hereo.

Oh by the way JackFTwist, jus so you don't feel left out,
"Willie's team" refers to the NY Mets

Agreed....I extended my hand,I certainly welcome and enjoy the posts of anyone who posts here.I think a point of the enjoyment is that we read other posts too so we know and respect the rooting interests of evberyone. But neither myself, sonny or Abs need to grovel....and Jack's obstinancy regarding his view that there is a clique here is an issue he alone must solve for himself ,I'm done with it.](*,)

I was at my sister's wedding last night and followed the score on my cell phone(my new brother in law is a huge Mets fan as well)and was thrilled with the Mets following up a truly frustrating loss Friday night(thanks to an ill-timed implosion by Aaron Heilmann)with this tight 3-2 victory. Can't let a loss like that deflate or demoralize you,and the Mets bounced back admirably.

Like to see Pelfrey back on track. His stuff is good enough for him to trust himself with it.I thought Heilmann was getting himself back on track, but at whatever velocity, once his pitches go flat he is a batting practice machine.Wagner has played up to his usual standards of toughness and domination this year, with only a couple of glitches.I agree the pen has pretty much been consistently effective recently and hope it continues to hold.Looking forward to Pedro's return on Tuesday. We can't expect too much at first, but having him back is such a great thing because of the passion and dedication and effort he always exudes on the mound. As a pitcher he is a master craftsman who always goes out there to win and after the way the Mets had played for such a long time without conviction, you know he cares and he'll always going to give his all out there.

Actually, that's not it at all why we "lost" this forum.

And, if anyone would have taken 15 seconds to click on my profile, they would have known that I'm obsessed with the Cardinals. I make it no secret :)

(and, I make it no secret that I absolut-ly despise the Cubs :grrr: )

Anywho, I can't believe the horrible showing that the St. Louis Cardinals gave versus the Pittsburgh [butt] Pirates last night. I mean, who the hell gives up a grand slam to them??? Oh wait, our shitty starting pitcher Parisi - which, really Tony? Why is he starting?

Hopefully we can at least take the series from them in the next couple days.

A  to sonny and Sausy for your Mets getting to .500!

Oh, and brad, the Red Sox can eat me :p

Congrats Manny on 500 home runs! He's a Hall of Famer as one of the most explosive hitters for both average and power ever. And he's a winner with two World Series championships.Don't have to be a Boston fan to appreciate and love what Manny Ramirez does for the game..|!

I did not watch it either, I hate FOX sports.
The coverage blows (I love my SNY boys) the camera angels and replays are piss poor and they are badly directed. I like Tim though, he would be the only resaon I might be able to watch some of it. But they keep popping up grafics, and scores from other games, even showing live coverage of other teams in action in spit screen with the other teams picture bigger the Mets coverage ](*,)
It's all very distractuing.

Yeah ya know somehow I am expecting Pedro to pitch very well on Tuesday. Just seeing him in the dugout messin with the other guys and bringing a much needed fun back to the game will be great to see. Can't wait to see him pitch again.

I am pumped for the game I am playing today with ny boys. i usually play 3rd but today they are letting me pitch. I so wish i could be a better pitcher, I have a decent fastball but what I really want is to be able to throw a decent change up.
I mean it's pretty much the same action as a fastball but basically what I am being taught is to cup the ball deep in my palm and not my fingertips (like a fastball). I need to be able to slow the ball down for a good change up.
Damn I need to master that pitch.

Can I still post here,I am not part of the in crowd being a Red Sox fan.

Congrats on #500 Manny!

Awesome, congrats. Manny needs to become a Met.

a White Sox fan congratulates Red Sox fans on Manny hitting his 500th!

Glad you play for the fun of it and hope you have a great game,sonny!..|

I sucked, all my change ups went in the dirt I can't control em ](*,)

But we won in spite of me due to the fact that the dude pitching on the other team was worse than me. It's all good though, I had a lot of fun, I am better off on 3rd. In fact the manager said "hey Joey, you know next week you are back to third, right? !oops!
Great game last night, Santana was as advertised, and I was so wanting Church to do well his first game back...|
I sure hope I don't wake up and find out the last week has been a dream.
Mets are fun to watch again.

Glad to hear you guys won at least, sonny. You gave it your best effort, don't feel too bad.(*8*)

Santana was terrific,Church came back with three hits including a homer, not missing a beat....David Wright,Carlos Beltran...the whole offense was on Sunday night giving Santana welcome support.

On the other hand regarding last night's game,Oliver Perez should be ashamed of himself unless he wasn't 100%.Recording one out and getting pounded annd chased in the first inning by San Diego just should not happen.Hope the Mets bounce back from this, because it was truly a dreadful performance.

Well after Perez' performance last night I now know what the Mets should do with Pedro back in the lineup.
Keep both Pelfrey and Vargas and get rid of Oliver Perez. :grrr:
I am so sick of watching him implode with that lost look on his face, I donno how much more of him I can take. Last nights first inning was sickening to watch,
When Horwitz hit that home run (first of his career) I thought to myself, here we go again.](*,) fact is I expect Vargas to go and Pelfrey to remain.

Anyways i am not going to let last night get me down, my dad always says
"they can't win then all. I do respect the fact that the boys had to be tired, they flew out of NY late Sunday night and got to sleep about 5 in the morning. It had to make them tired last night. That's my story and I am sticking to it.;)

As you all can tell by my posts I am queer for good pitching, it is what I love the most about the game. I analyze every pitch, study pitch selections and windups.
So today is like I died and went to baseball heaven, we have Joba playing his first game as a starting pitcher with the Yankees when they play the Blue Jays, and and Pedro back with the Mets. I get to see both games since one starts at 7 and the other at 10.
The Blue Jays will be fun to watch with Halladay on the mound, he can go the distance and will be hard to beat again tonight.

I will be going to my parents house to watch the games with my my dad and brother. it is gonna be an awesome night of baseball.

I am with you regarding Oliver Perez. So much talent but these kinds of performances can sink the Mets hopes this year.

I thought you were queer for guys,;)but I do always notice how you dissect the pitching perfiormances.I wish I were that observant and meticulous about technical details, and I always appreciate the onsights you give, sonny.

I just don't know about this obsession to make Joba a starting pitcher. He should be mariano Rivera's successor as closer. He would thrive there....he has the makeup and mentality.I'm not saying he wouldn' make a great starter,he has the talent, ability and makeup to become the best at whatever he puts his mind to...but he is the PERFECT dominant,God I don't want to face him ,lights out 99% of the time closer.

I'll be watching the Mets tonight for Pedro's return.Even at 50% he could find a way, unlike Ollie,to just find a way to win.

Enjoy a great night of Yankee and Mets baseball with your family tonight,sonny!..|

I’m still queer for em babe, I jus try hard not to let it distract me during a game. Although it’s kinda hard (pun intended) when Wright or Church are at the plate,

The pitching thing started when I was 10 and my dad started to teach me. He was a pitcher in college. But I soon learned I was a better infielder, so that’s where I ended up in little league. But I still want to pitch and keep working on it.

The Joba thing has been dissected and analyzed to death; it will be very interesting to see how that pans out. I am looking to see how deep in the game he goes. I think he will be ok as long as he can keep his pitch count down in early innings, otherwise he’s sunk.
When the Yankees brought him up last year, I seem to recall Brian Cashman saying Joba would be a starting pitcher. I also think Hankenstein thinks he can do it as well.
We will know more after tonight, I agree he would be an excellent successor to Rivera. Monday night showed what they are losing in the pen with him with that 6-5 loss to the Twins courtesy of Kyle Farnsworth

I agree with you,especially with Wright and Church(and Beltran,and Pelfrey,and Maine,and Nick Evans)!oops!

Your appreciation for good pitching shows and I think it's great you play every week during the baseball season. With the passion and dedication you have for the game, you'll improve as a pitcher and do well out there.

We'll just have to see where it goes with Joba.He has been groomed as a starter, but I just feel his explosiveness and intimidating stuff just cry out to be used as a dominating closer.Kyle Farnsworth has the arm but has yet to consistently show results, and taking Joba out of his current set up role may be a huge mistake that the Yankees may pay for.
