Nowhere yet, but he is free agent now which means if he does not get what he wants he has 30 other teams to deal with.
For sure Tek is a major issue with the Sox, I don’t think there are a lot of catchers available out there. But he did not have a very good offensive year in ’08, prolly the worst he ever had, plus he is 37 now. But the Sox will be talking to him as well as looking at other options. But right now there just isn’t much available as far as catchers go
Making more difficult has to be the fact that Tek is represented by Scott Boras, and he and Tek want a long term deal, where as the Sox are looking for two years.
One of the problems I have heard and agree with is that the impact of Varitek's defense and leadership is not measurable. Neither is the impact of his physical and emotional (personal) difficulties last season.
Most think the best solution for the Red Sox is prolly sign Varitek to a two-year deal and trade for an eventual replacement, I think that’s what the Sox want to do. I dono if Brad agrees with that..

Boras really does overinflate his client's worth.A long term deal in Tek's case is really problematic.He's a really good receiver,an excellent teammate but frankly he will probably not exceed .260-.270,15 homers,70 RBI even healthy and refocused after his bruising divorce problems.Two years at 20 -25 mil for what he brings is defensible,and overall as usual sonny you're on the right track!
