The Official 2009 MLB Thread!

I'd like to express my sadness on the tragic death of Angels pitcher Nick Adenhart, only 22 after a horrible hit and run car accident last night.Kid showerd tremendous promise and was well liked....he just loved being a baseball player and had envisioned a big league future for himself from childhood. It really hits home how precious life really is,that as fun as these threads are, talking trash about our favorites....things like this come around.:(

I just heard about that on the news.

Indeed very sad, Sausy :(

Thanks for posting that sausy.

I had intended to say something about it here yesterday but I was not able to form the words.
What a horrific tragedy, so young and so full of hope and promise, to die so young it’s just impossible to comprehend
Nick was selected by the Angels in the 14th round of the 2004 MLB Draft.
He pitched six scoreless innings on Wednesday, just hours before the crash. He struck out five and walked three, while giving up seven hits in the Angels 6-4 loss to Oakland.
After the game he and a couple of friends decided to go a dance club to celebrate, and that’s when his car was struck by a drunk driver.
I wish his family and friends find peace and comfort recalling the days they had him in their lives.
Nicks' father had gone to watch his son pitch that day. If that doesn’t make you cry I don’t what could.

Your welcome, sonny. And thanks for your contribution. It was hard even getting those words out...pitching six shutout innings in victory one moment.....and then because of some asshole in an SUV his life and two others are extinguished so young. And he was an only child, which makes it even worse.Time will heal the pain, but it's all so senseless.

^^ Yeah, the story about Adenhart is really unfortunate and sad. He will be missed.

Evidently Albert Pujols likes Easter weekend! I saw a game on Easter last year where he hit three home runs in a single game :gogirl:

Yesterday, he has 7 RBI's in one game (with a grand slam on a pitch he absolutely destroyed and then a three run HR) and Kyle Lohse had a one hitter today going into the 9th inning. 0 runs and a CG! :D

I hope we can keep up this momentum on the upcoming road trip!

God I love baseball...

What a difference from the Cards unfortunate opener....they're on fire!Swept the Astros and look poised to really look good in the NL Central this year.Albert Pujols, damn you guys are so lucky to be able to enjoy watching this Hall of Famer play every day and I tell you,he's making a statement already in the MVP race!Lohse has been a really good signing for the Cards,a lot better than anticipated last year going on his career track record and he looks like no fluke this year.

I hope the Cards do great as long as they are not facing the Mets!;)

We know you do babe, and we love ya too for helping keep these threads alive
What sonny said!:D(*8*)

Harry Kalas passed away today.

I couldn't believe it.

Sorry Gumby, but the Phils needed the win for Harry. :(

Mark Fidrych passed away too.:(Not a happy day for baseball...sorry to hear about the loss of the great Phillies announcer Harry Kalas,Scrub.(*8*)He was one of a kind, and will be missed. They did need the win, struggling as they are and now this.

Mets opened up Citi Field like one of the gut wrenching losses they are known for....not sharp and Pelfrey was nowhere near as good as he should be.6-5 disappointing ending,San Diego over Mets to a lovely opening that should have inspired better.:(

Im Off To Opening Day. Im Off To Opening Day. Im Off Im Off Im Off Im Off Im Off To Opening Day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Go Mariners!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well they sure have a nice roll going after this weekends sweep of Oakland
Of course they wanna forget last year, that's for sure ;)

Good luck and have fun

Sweeping the Astros early should not make the Cards fans feel good. As we all know the Astros start horribly and then make some impossible run at the end. On that note, Roy O finally wins the Cy Young.

Nats 8 - Phillies 9 final

Nats loses home-opener, ( 0 - 7 )

How are you feel about losing Milledge?

I hated that kid when he played for the Mets, I had plenty to say about him in last years Mets thread.

Omar took some heat for trading what some considered a major prospect.
But omar knew the truth about Milledge and wisely dumped him.
I did not like the way he handled himself both on and of the team, he was not very professional. I also thought he was a mediocre outfielder, misplaying flyballs and takin strange approaches to the balls he did catch. His bat was good but not that good. Maybe this will open the field a bit for Elijah Dukes and Josh Willingham, they both out performed Milledge and deserves a shot at the spot.

So sonny, tell 'em how you REALLY feel about Milledge!:pSeriously, sonny is spot on here.

.167 batting average could not justify his erratic defense and attitude.Though I think Elijah Dukes doesn't play with a full deck either.I hate when tremendously gifted athletes like this try to slide by on their ability and don't grasp the basics from their peers, especially veterans who have played the game the right way.I don't know if either one will ever realize anything close to their potential....but maybe in Milledge's case it will be a humbling experience and he'll learn from it.I would like to hope so but wouldn't bet the ranch on it.

And yet...somehow...it still feels good ;)

:p

Oswalt is always a fantastic pitcher, regardless of the situation. I ain't gonna lie - I've watched the video of Pujols taking his first pitch yard for a grand slam several times this past weekend ;)

And then it happened. A series against the Cubs starting tomorrow. I cannot wait!

I am still sad for Carpenter though - 6-8 weeks, probably.

Cubs vs. Cardinals? Is there any other greater rivalry? Red Sox vs. Yankees PFFFT! The whole country is sick of them!

Another Cards win tonight....Abs is walking on air right now I'm sure!;)

Carpenter reinjured is tough but it doesn't look season ending..though six to eight weeks out has got to be frustrating to Cards fans but especially to him.

Cubs/Cards is fun because Cubs fans can pump their chests and act all big and all that because they have a better record against the Cards during the regular season.(!)

Though there is that small matter of barely registering in the postseason....101 years since their last WS championship and counting.#-o

They see Cards fans all proudly decked in red and want to do not very nice things to them!:p

Bad news out of the Yankees camp about Xavier Nady, his right elbow is worse than thought.
He may be headed for a second Tommy John reconstructive surgery after feeling a sharp pain in his arm in the seventh inning on Tuesday night. Nady underwent an MRI in Tampa yesterday and the results were not encouraging.
He will be examined by a team physician Thursday at which time a final diagnosis will prolly be made.

I always liked that kid, I hated when the Mets traded him and have followed his career for a while now. Tough break and my heart goes out to him with hopes that his Yankee days are not over, although it does not look good. The timing could not have been worse, he becomes a free agent next year and could have finally gotten the big bucks. Sad story.

That sucks.....Xavier has always been a solid player and person and to need that kind of surgery again is a really rough break for him.I hope his recovery is as quick as possible and wherever it is he is able to sucessfully resume his career.

Woot! Another Cardinal win! Against the despised Cubbies!

:gogirl::gogirl:

It sure was fun to see the Yankees bullpen crash and burn for a change.
We Mets fans suffered all last year with bull pen collapses and so when the Yankees did it yesterday it gave me a bit of a tickle. :p

I know, I'm evil, but what do you expect from a New Yorker who is a Mets fan

*waits for Yankee fans to beat me up* :D
