The Official 2009 MLB Thread!

The Yankees continue to do just about nothing right.
This season has been one embarrassment after another.

Now we have learned that during the weekend series with the Angels. Paul O'Neill, who was one of the great former Yankees, (the Warrior) and is now an analyst for the Yankees sports Network, was asked by security to leave the indoor batting cages, where he was watching Yankees hit, prior to one of the games.

A security guard told O'Neill he could not loiter in the area. On top of that O'Neill's wife, was not allowed into the "wives room." She was told by security it was for current wives only. What a disgrace when a man like Paul who was just there to do a broadcast was told to get lost and booted by security.

So why did I post this here? well I just thought It was just so sad to hear that one of the greats like Paul O'neill had to be treated like that.

What an effing idiot!!!

MLB suspends Manny Ramirez 50 games for drug violation

Los Angeles Dodgers star outfielder Manny Ramirez tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs and was suspended for 50 games, Major League Baseball announced Thursday.

Through a statement released through baseball's players' union, Ramirez said the positive test resulted from a medication prescribed by a doctor, and not from a steroid. Ramirez waived his right to challenge the suspension.

"Recently I saw a physician for a personal health issue," Ramirez said in the statement. "He gave me a medication, not a steroid, which he thought was okay to give me. Unfortunately, the medication was banned under our drug policy. Under the policy that mistake is now my responsibility. I have been advised not to say anything more for now. I do want to say one other thing; I've taken and passed about 15 drug tests over the past five seasons."

Concur with the previous assessment of Manny. Every team has a highly professional, well paid, medical staff to see for "personal medical issues", yet these bozos want us to believe they are on the level and not trying to get an edge with performance enhancing drugs. He's just another liar, a damn shame.

^^ I guess in this instance its wise for Manny not to say 'its just a case of Manny being Manny'.

Another horrible move by the worst GM in MLB. He fires Bob Melvin because he (GM Josh Byrnes) has made the worst moves in the last 2 years. He has traded or not re-signed the following players: Carlos Quentin, Adam Dunn, Alberto Callaspo, Emilio Bonifacio. These guys are all near the top in the offensive categories and where are the D'Backs? At the bottom of the offensive categories. Yet Josh Byrnes fires Bob Melvin. Josh Byrnes will be the next Matt Millen of MLB. Uggghhh!
:grrr:

Is Ryan Zimmerman hot or what?!? 29 game hitting streak, four more hits last nite, he's "en fuego". It they can get their pitching squared away, they'd be a contender.

As a Mets fan it's hard to give a shout out to a Phillies player but sometimes ya just have to when a player does something special.
I am talking about Jason Wourth who stole 2nd, 3rd and home
all in ther same inning. :=D:
scrub, you must be beaming girl ;)

Cards have lost 6 of 8, probably 7 of 9 after tonight.

This is not the momentum we need with a three game Cubs/Cards series coming up tomorrow...

Hold me...

Sorry I've been out of town this week, and haven't updated this thread :)

But FUCK YEAH I'll take a sweep of the Cubs and a win over KC tonight!!!!!

After the depressing sweep from the Brewers, this is exactly what the Birds needed. I mean can you believe our pitching throughout the Cubs series??

Good stuff.

I :luv: baseball...

I have to say how good it makes me feel to see someone like king Gumby who inspite of their crappy record remains loyal to his beloved Nationals.
Good for you dude, that's what I call a real fan.:=D:
We have a lot of baseball yet to pay so keep the faith, things could turn around for your team, as long as they keep their distance of course from 1st place in the NL East. Cause that's Mets territory ;)

Actually there are a a few of guys here at JUB who have baseball in their blood this time of year and support their teams with gusto.
Abs and his Cards, Scrub and her Phillies, Bradlee and his Red Sox among others and of course sausy, chance, and syam and their (our) Mets.
I love swappin baseball stories with you guys. :D

^ "Baseball is my life?"

:rotflmao:

Oh sonny, I just adore you :luv: Next time I'm in NYC, I'm buying you a beer...

And hey, the Cards going for their 6th win in a row, and second sweep of the cross state rival Royals??? WOOT!

OMG our starting pitching has been un-fucking-believable. Two runs allowed in 28 2/3 innings?!?!? Not to mention our bullpen? THAT will win you some games! ;)

I pray that we can sweep the Royals today! :D

(and, per work, I think I will be in KC the weekend that the Birds visit! While I usually make it a road trip anyways to hang out with college peeps, it's just destiny!)

Sorry Gumby(*8*),but sweeps are fun!!!:p

Sorry Gumby(*8*),but sweeps are fun!!!:p

It was almost too easy, I really felt bad for the manager, he looked so frustrated and basically annoyed with his players.
The Nats GM actually said that he designated Cabrara cause he could not stand to watch him anymore. I mean WTF is that???

Seriously dude, 30 games under 500??

But like I wrote before, never give up on the team you support, they need their fans more than ever now.

28-19! I'll take 2 outta 3 from the Brewers! (!)

Our pitching has been completely outstanding in the past week! I'm in awe!

I'm mad we're off tonight...

off-day of the nats mean they can't win....

Question for all.

Will Adam Dunn have more HRs then Nats wins?
Off day also means they can't lose.;)

Sonny is right,though.....as tough as things are now it certainly isn't assured things will always be this bleak for the Nats and you should always stand proud for your team, especially your hometeam.

It's kind of sad to read how the Washington GM felt about being sick of watching Cabrera pitch....getting rid of him.An organization has to try to be as professional as possible and work out a long range planning strategy even when things are going badly. If the top panics,or acts on a way that loses the trust or confidence of the players, the organization suffers and logically through that unfortunately the always put upon fans.

I'll give the Nats 65 wins this year,Adam will get 48 homers. So no to your question,Gumby.Adam Dunn will not have more
home runs than Nat wins!;)

I would love for the Brewers to go on a losing streak :D

Tied for first with them in the NL Central! (!)

Eff you Cubs!

Phillies are in first place and the Mets and Cards are not. (!)

So sorry Sonny, Sausy and ABS :p

Not really

Gumby, the poor Nats might as well give up and try again next year. :(
