The Official 2009 MLB Thread!

You know it babe^
Wanna talk about Tim Wakefield? I still cn't believe he is 43 and pitching so well still-and he is a nice guy too.Doubt he ever took the riods.
Oh,I know he's one of your all time favorites,Brad....deceptive ERA sometimes because he usually pitches well in the big games,he is a great guy and certainly pitching very effectively for a 43 year old,let alone someone ten or fifteen years younger in their prime.Very sexy guy too....and definitely one I also believe has played the game hard but cleanly.

The Washington Nationals today acquired
outfielder Nyjer Morgan
left-handed pitcher Sean Burnett
from the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for
outfielder Lastings Milledge
right-handed pitcher Joel Hanrahan.
St. Louis makes a trade....even the Nats try to get better(Morgan vs Milledge?I think the Nats have the right one to grow with now). When are the collapsing, overwhelmed Minaya Mutts going to do something?:grrr:Will they be buyers or sellers when Omar does get the urge to do something? With alltheir fans have been through since the infamous debacle of September 2007,the Mets organization owe it to their fans to finally start getting things right.Maybe by finally getting rid of that hack who has done NOTHING to critically bolster the overall Met minor league organization. From what I've read, other than a few in the lower minors(Including pitcher Brad Holt, recently promted to AA)the only impact player, the only one who might turn into a serviceable front line player,is Fernando Martinez...who is doing far better than expected as a defender in the outfield and not doing much impressively at bat, where he was expected to be most potent and dangerous.

It deserves mention here ... Yogi is right. It isn't over until it's over.

Last night the Orioles, last place in their division, were down 9 runs in the seventh inning to the team with the best record in the AL. The O's scored 5 runs in the seventh and 5 runs in the eighth. The game winning hit in the eighth turned out to be a key 2 run double with 2 out off the All-Star closer from the team with the best record in the AL.

There is still so much more baseball to be played this season. Anything can happen and it is fun to watch when it actually does happen. Congratulations to the O's on a stunning come from behind 11-10 victory; the biggest comeback in team history.

Thank you Colby Rasmus for your walkoff HR tonight! The Birds on the Bat really needed this win tonight. Hopefully we can split the series with the Giants, who have unbelievable pitching!

Plus, he's totally hot !oops!

The Mets seem to have awakened a sleeping giant. The Phillies had been struggling before the Mets series this weekend and then yesterday they pounded the Reds 22-1 Including 10 runs in the first inning.
My girl scrub has got to be smiling today.

It looks a possibility that Shane Victorino may replace the ailing Mets outfielder Carlos Beltran in the All Star game.
Beltran is expected to attend the games but not likely to play.

A huge smile from ear to ear Sonny (!) (!)

That was an amazing first inning. I couldn't believe it. Now if only they can continue to play like that.

I did feel bad for the Reds though. I do hate to see a team do that badly. :(

Let's keep this 3-0 lead we have against the Brewers going! A battle for first place! :D

ps - I hate the Cubs.

Oh and I predict -

Colby Rasmus - NL Rookie of the Year
Albert Pujols - wins the Triple Crown...

A girl can dream, right?!?

I concur :D

Tough loss tonight to the Brewers. Cards had several chances to win with RISP (as did MKE, who took advantage one inning) and we lost by one run :(

I am SOOOOOOOOOOO EXCITED for the 4 game series coming up against the Cards/Cubs at Wrigley Field this weekend before the All Star break! A Sunday double header?!? Doesn't get much better than that!!!!

:D

(!)

The Cubs beat the Cards last night

I guess ABS is off trying to forget.

The Cubs do that a lot in the regular season. I wouldn't be too worried about it...Abs is probably pissed but that's par for the course in any rivalry as deep and unyielding as Cubs/Cards!;)

Two game Mets winning streak and six and a half back of the Phillies! We've got your guys where we want them,Scrub!

Hey, I'll take a split series any day of the week! Especially against the dreaded Cubs

ABS is alive :D

 ABS, where you been hiding

Now that the goofy Home Run Derby is over we can look forward to tonights
All Star game. The line up is looking like this;

Hanley Ramirez will lead off and play shortstop, followed by Chase Utley at second base, Albert Pujols at first base, Ryan Braun in right field, Raul Ibanez in left field, Wright at third base, Shane Victorino in center field, and Yadier Molina catching, with Tim Lincecum the starting pitcher for the National League.
Ichiro Suzuki will lead off and play right field, followed by Derek Jeter at short stop, Joe Mauer catching, Mark Teixeira at first base, Jason Bay in left field, Josh Hamilton in center field, Evan Longoria at third base, Aaron Hill at second base with Roy Halladay the starting pitcher for the American League.

Lets go National League!

Hey Scrub, how do you fell about the posibity of Pedro Martinez as a Phillie ?
He was a great pitcher, just dono oif he has anything left in the ole tank.
Could be fun though seeing him in a Phillies uniform facing the Mets. :)

I think they are wasting money.

I agree that he no longer has what he did.

But the Phillies aren't known to make good decisions on players, :##:

Well they signed him alright ….and then put him on the 15-day disabled list with a shoulder strain.
Jezz, I thought only my Mets did things like that. I can not figure why a team like the Phillies would have signed him.

Only 5 hits all night in the All Star game. Proud to say D Wright had one of em.
Crazy night for Albert Pujols, he was 0 for 3 in six innings and made an error at first base which resulted in what may have ultimately caused the game winning run to score. But he also made an awesome diving stop on balls hit by both Jeter and Teixeira and throwing out Suzuki at second from his knees. Wright also made a bad throw pushing Pujols off the bag. Without those two boo boos we might have won that thing. I have forgiven David cause he did score in that game. Meantime Albert dug a trench in the ground between home plate and the dugout going back and fourth...back and fourth...back and fourth, yup three times. Hey Abs, at least your boy got one hell-off-an ovation. They really tore the place down when he was announced. Forget last night he is still the best in the game right now.

I gotta mention the stupid job they did on Obama’s throw. We did not get an angle of the catcher so we missed it. All we saw was Obama throwing the ball. How stupid are those guys, did they not think we would want to see the whole thing? We needed SNYs Bill Webb in the director’s chair. We not only would we have seen the throw but from many angels. Oh Well I hear the throw was a bit high but a good one never the less. Thanks Fox, you never fail to amaze me with your ineptitude in broadcasting sports.

It really was a proud moment to be a Cardinals fan. I turned to my sister and said "That place is going to fall down when they announce his name..." and sure enough, it was quite a rousing ovation! :D Loved it!

But yeah, I did feel bad for Albert after making that error. Like you said sonny, he made some bad ass plays after that. But remember when Clemens was coming in a couple years ago to pitch for the NL from the Astros and gave up like 4 runs or something in the first? WTF? I mean Lincecum has been dominant all season, and gives up 2 runs in the first? A hit, a walk, a hit batter....it was a frustrating first inning for sure.

I just wish we could have won, dammit!

And while Ryan Howard is my home town boy too, what....in the fuck were you swinging at on strike three....omg I was like No way did he just swing at that pitch that hit the dirt like, 2 feet in FRONT of the plate????

I enjoyed the game though :) it least it wasn't a blowout!

I loved the way Albert got into the second round....he bore down, shifted into a leg kick, and damn got the two he needed to advance! It's really interesting he considers himself first and foremost a line drive hitter with power, rather than purely a slugger. He doesn't strike out more than 60 or so times,however....he is just one tremendously masterful hitter, and just what he means to the city is so great.Arguably the BEST righty hitter EVER!..|
Ryan Howard strikes out like,200 times a season,ya know?:pHe can hit them into outer space in bunches, but he can look SO BAD,:eek:like swinging at balls in the dirt,in front of home plate that no one watching on tv could fathom ANYONE going after!#-oYou were shocked?:p

St. Louis put on a great show and rightly shouldbe proud of their city an ballclub. What a gorgeous stadium and seeing the magnificent Arch again brought back some great memories from last year. You've got to love Stan Musial and the class, grace and greatness he represents as the most beloved, grandest Cardinal.Would have loved to see an NL victory, and more fantastic moments from our favorite players, but it was definitely a wonderful show the past couple of days. The game was very competitive and entertaining in the AL 4-3 win.Fourteenth in a row, though for the AL.;)I'm more of an NL guy but you have to admire their consistency in these All Star Games these days.In the 70's and 80's I remember however when the NL was so dominant the AL was really regarded as the inferior league....they have a DH,their games were oringand longad without strategy, not enough good pitching, tended to lag behind in the development of African American and Latin players.Fittingly,a great Latin American closer extraordinaire from Panama,Mariano Rivera of the Yankees(future surefire Hall of Famer),gets his fourth AL All Star save pitching a very smooth ninth.

Great All Star game, great pregame ceremonies. Baseball, by far, does the All Star game the best of all the sports. So much tradition, bringing back the stars and heroes of days gone by. Great to see Stan Musial, once saw him hit 3 homers in one game vs the Mets in the Polo Grounds in '62. Bob Gibson pitched that day, and also homered.
