The Official 2009 MLB Thread!

congrats mark buehrle

I am so mad I passed out on buying a Jermaine Dye jersey a month ago over a Mark Buehrle one at Sports Authority two months ago.

I went to buy a Buehrle jersey yesterday for the Sox vs. Yankees game on the 2nd and they were all sold out!!!

I love it when sonny gets all atwitter!

Scrub is happy again....for now

Methinks they celebrated their pennant "Holliday" a wee bit early!;)Cubs have won four straight.....hmm,maybe they can be of some use during this pennant stretch!:p

Well I get all atwitter just knowing you love me all atwitter :D

Yeah Scrub is happy, and she should be, those punk Phillies are at it again. Funny how quite Scrub was a couple of weeks ago when the phillies were gettin spanked from all angles. Where was she then, hiddin from us I guess. But ya know I love her (*8*)

"Pennnant Holliday" well played and said :=D:

Hey Abs, so what happemned wth those Phillies? I mean the Mets took care of the Astros for you, would have been nice for a little love in return ;)
It's ok, saucy and I still love you.

Congrats to the great Ricky Henderson on his induction yesterday into the Hall of Fame. He was the stolen base king and perhaps the best lead off hitter ever to play the game Ricky was a big help in moulding and coaching Jose Reyes. he taught him the art of the stolen base. who could forget seeing Ricky in the stands at shea showing the love and cheering Jose on.

^ I dunno, babe. It was ridiculous. The Astros always seem to make a run in the 2nd half of the season - never fails... :grrr:

And congrats to Josh Willingham of the Washington Nationals for hitting two grand slams in one game! :=D:

(especially against the Brewers...mwahaha!)

Hmmm. the second half run thing is true about the 'Stros. Your cubbies escaped with a game today, but with Oswalt on the mound tomorrow we should take that game. Then again the Magic Wand was on the mound today and we lost, but we were facing Zamby who has his best games vs. the 'Stros.

So I went to the Cards game last night versus the Astros...

A 4-3 victory!!! It was SO much fun!

I want to have Matt Holliday's babies. Pretty much. He has hit in every game as a Cardinal, and he went four for four last night. I like his ass. :D

PS - Jager is not my friend anymore

The Yankees ar spanking the Red Sox in that four game series.
Bradlee, are you out there?
Dude, I'm a Mets fan, I feel your pain. :(

Congrats Abs, your boys are back in first place. ..|

Obviously the Yankees with their 8 year deal with Teixeria is for sure proving to be a really good move. I think the Sox have got to look at how many first baseman they have gone through this year and shake their heads.
For the Red Sox to not score a single run in 31 innings is mind blowing. A total surprise to me. The shit I am taking from my buddies who are Yankee fans is intense. They are really having fun with me over that.
I'm a Mets fan remember.
The Yankees sweep was impressive, it was a Sox nightmare reminding us of 2006 in Fenway.
So now the Yankees have the best record in baseball (no more Dodgers) and the Sox have ended up in' a tie with the Texas Rangers for the AL Wild Card.
But it’s still August and Boston can easily bounce back. It begins in Detroit, a tough team but one they can beat. They gotta kick some Tigers butt. The Yanks have a bit easier playing next in Toronto. What the Yankees need is a little realty check by having the Blue jays knock em around a little.

Hang in there Brad.(*8*)

On 8/10, the Red Sox play the Tigers in Boston and the Yankees play the Blue Jays in NY.

The way this guy is playing right now he could be the AL MVP.

Where the heck is Gumby?
The Nats just won 8 in a row!!!

I should think he would be in here with dancing bananas galore ;)

Oh, and scrub....... I know why your not in here today
I warned you bout them pesky Marlins

So what was that someone said about the Nats being no better after firing Acta?

Nats are 13-11 under Riggleman =D

NOW IF THEY'D JUST SIGN STRASBURG
Let's put this 8 game winning streak in perspective. The Nats now have 40 wins on August 10th. A good team has 40 wins by June 10th. Will the Nats play spoiler in the NL East? Can the Nats win on the road? Stay tuned.

The Nats ownership haven't opened their wallets since they planted cherry trees on the plaza in LF. I know, they did sign Adam Dunn for 2 years at $10 mil per and they gave Zimmerman a long-term contract. They even made a nice trade with Pittsburgh to improve the club with an eye toward putting more fannies in the seats. Patience they say.

It's wishful thinking to believe Mr. Strasburg will sign with a team that he has reportedly said "lacks direction."

I'm on the record in this thread as saying the Nats will win 71 games this year. I'm wrong again.

I hate the Yankees and the Red Sox. Personally, I hope the Yankees make it and the Red Sox are left in the cold. The Yankees will go nowhere with that pitching staff.

I'm hoping the Rays or Rangers pull off the wild card berth.

Marry me :D

So my Cards just got done sweeping the Pirates - which was to be expected, but you never know! Now it's back home for a series vs. the Reds. Scott Rolen is evidently not playing the whole series because of concussion issues from getting beaned in the head by Jason Marquis. I was kind of excited to see the reaction he would get from the crowd, but we don't play the Reds anymore at home :(

Oh well - at least the Cubs have sucked the last couple of games! First place baby! *|*

Big Rangers fan here. Loved last weekend's series with the Angels. Lukin forward to Red Sox nation coming to dallas this weekend. Any other Ranger fans out there?

Welcome thesportsfag!

I'll make you love me even more: the Cards are one of my favorite teams in the NL and I hope they blast the Cubs out of the playoffs.:D

:luv2:

Well, the Cubs get swept by the Phillies (the ONE time I will root for them) and the Cards take 2 of 3 from the Reds :D

It's a good day in Birdnal Nation! ..|

Abs my love you must be feelin pretty darn good today.
What a weekend for Cards fans, Colby Rasmus' two-run homer, spanking that Padres closer
and getting the sweep. :=D:

#1 draft pick Stephen Strasburg agreed to four-year, $15.67M deal with the Nats.
A LOT less than Scott Boras was aiming for,but still great money for someone yet to pitch a major league game. It's a great move for the Washington franchise, and you have to be incredibly thrilled with getting Stephen,Gumby:D....some positive building block for the future.Certainly makes the Washington Nationals an interesting team.It may take a year or two of tough going, but more stellar draft picks and the Nats may become a pretty strong franchise and other clubs in the division had better start taking them seriously.

Congrats on that one. I was watching that and it must have been like one minute to the midnight deadline when it finally happened. The Nats turned him down the original offer late last night and thought they were going to loose him, but I guess crafty old Boras did it again. Great move for the Nationals. ..|

Great move for the fans of the Nationals. ..|
I never thought this signing would happen but when your team has come in last place in the NL East 4 out of 5 years and your attendance this year is third worst in the NL it might be time for the owners to show the fans that they will spend record money on a pitcher of this quality.

If Mr. Strasburg is every bit as good as his reputation he may very well be on the opening day roster in 2011. In the meantime I would like to see the owners improve the team in 2010 by hiring a proven general manager and manager who can instill in the players the desire to win in a city that has waited too long for a competitive baseball team.

Boras knew he wasn't going to get anywhere near 50 mil but the 15.6 mil Stephen Strasbourg got was still by a considerable margin a record for a draftee right out of high school. It is so great for Nats fans....it gives them their first potential franchise type player and hope for a much better future. Both sides handled it just right, and it will be exciting to see how quickly Stephen can rise to the majors with his out of this world stuff.

I hope they move in that direction, after giving up competitively in Montreal and not being very compelling in their early history reviving Washington baseball and losing traditions.Washington fans deserve better....hopefully for Mets fans it comes eventually at the expense of the Phillies,Braves and Marlins. As a passionate Met fan, don't want the Nats to do TOO well!;)

Since Matt Holliday's unbelievable run since he's put on the birds on the bat, my sister said the funniest thing (she's as big a baseball freak as I am...)

"Ya know what [Abs?] Everytime Matt Holliday swings the bat he 'jizzes...in...his pants..."

:rotflmao:

I love her. And the fact we beat the Dodgers last night. It's friggin' blacked out right now in Springfield, IL :grrr: but I am listening it to it on MLB.com ..|

Also, Kevin Gregg giving up the tying run last night in the bottom of the ninth for the Cubs vs. the Padres (ouch) and then a three run bomb?!?! I friggin love it! :D
