The Official 2009 MLB Thread!

Great All Star game, great pregame ceremonies. Baseball, by far, does the All Star game the best of all the sports. So much tradition, bringing back the stars and heroes of days gone by. Great to see Stan Musial, once saw him hit 3 homers in one game vs the Mets in the Polo Grounds in '62. Bob Gibson pitched that day, and also homered.
Would have LOVED to see Bob Gibson pitch....he was TOUGH!Just went out there to beat you, thank you very much.Saw Lou Brock but towards the end of the line...ooh,to have watch him run in his heyday!:DThat guy was excitement personified! And the funny thing was,he was a gift to the Cards from the Cubs!

The Washington Nationals fired manager Manny Acta...
Interim Manager Jim Riggleman era starts...

Yeah I kinda warned you that was gonna happen.
Ok so maybe Acta wasn't a great manager. The Nats under him have lost over 250 games. But I think a big big part of that is the team itself, I mean other than Zimmerman what you have is lower than average

Zimmerman is of course in a class all by himself on that team, and the pitching is really kinda bad..

So I guess I am saying, don't expect much to change cause i don't think Manny was the main problem,
there just is not a whole lot of talent on that team.

The Nationals, like the Mets, need to make changes and firing the manager should not have been the first priority on that score.
I belive Manny may have done all he could with that team as it stands now.

I know you will never stop supporting them, your dedication is obvious in your posts.

The "Natinals" interim manager gets the same results last night as the recently fired manager, Cubs 6, Nots 2 (as in Not winning) with only 4 hits, 2 errors. Riggleman is a local guy so he has some additional incentive to improve his home team's record. Maybe the incentive to win will translate to the bullpen guys who seem adverse to throwing strikes and the defense that leads the league in errors.

I rest my case ;)

Cards take two of three from the Dbacks - thank you Joel Piniero for doing everything today! Pitching awesomely and scoring the only two runs we needed on a bases loaded double! :D

I won't tell Abs if you won't!:-$
Besides,the Cards are on a nice run....Abs won't notice!

Oh he'll notice, he's just on such a sugar rush with his Cards he's letting Brad slide.
I'm really happy for the Red Sox and Cards fans, maybe a bit jealous
*whispers* I'm a Mets fan ya know

Well, as a Mets fan, I know you'll need lots of these (*8*) (*8*) (*8*)

:p

So I was reading on the MLB message boards that you guys did not pursue a trade that included Roy Halladay? I know the Cards were playing around with that rumor as well, but I wouldn't like it. We would have to give up waaaay to much young talent for just one guy. While I understand he is valuable (and damn good) I just don't want to see some of our potential future go up in smoke for one dude.

Now if Mark DeRosa would learn to hit while wearing the birds on the bat ;)

Cardinals acquire Holliday from A's

Prospects Wallace, Mortensen, Peterson shipped to Oakland

ST. LOUIS -- A Major League source has confirmed that a deal is in place for the Cardinals to acquire Matt Holliday from the A's in exchange for Brett Wallace and two other Minor Leaguer, Triple-A right-hander Clayton Mortensen and Double-A outfielder Shane Peterson.

Oakland will send cash to St. Louis to offset the remaining cost of Holliday's contract

Holliday has long been a target of the Cardinals, who talked trade with Colorado over the winter before the Rockies shipped the three-time All-Star to Oakland. He bolsters the team's outfield and offers the cleanup hitter that manager Tony La Russa has long coveted to slot behind Albert Pujols in the Cardinals lineup.

Holliday, 29, can be a free agent at the end of the 2009 season. His current contract pays him $13.5 million, of which approximately $6 million is still due.

Wallace, 22, was St. Louis' first-round pick in the 2008 Draft and has rocketed through the Minor Leagues. He is currently playing at Triple-A Memphis. Mortensen, 24, is also at Memphis and was a supplementary first-rounder in 2007. Peterson, 21, was a second-round selection in 2008.

Well Abs my sweet, the Cards may have given up a lot of prospects for Holliday but it sure gives your line up a big bat, with a nice debt last night going 4 for 5 :=D:
Matt will be perfect in protecting Pujols who will for sure get better pitches to hit.
Holliday will make opponents think twice about pitching around Pujols,
You know how scared opposing teams are of Big Al and how they love to intentionally walk him.
All of this means that Albert will pull ahead from Hanley Ramirez to win the triple crown.

Nice job on the Phillies last night, keep that going (*8*)

Aw,ya jinxed 'em,sonny!Philly bounced back with a vengeance today.:p It's okay now,Scrub...LOL!

But I swear,if they get Roy Halladay......I'm gonna curl up into a ball and cry!

But it will be an Ice Age in hell before I ever foreswear my allegiance to the Mets for those Phillies,my dear Scrub!:p

Mets bombed Houston tonight,10-1 going into the bottom of the ninth...three home runs!:eek:Including a nice wallop by David Wright:luv:,his sixth! It probably nothing the Mets being this far back with all the injuries...they probably won't get healthy enough quick enough to make a meaningful run.But it feels damn good to see the Mets whip some ass tonight!!!I'm planning to be at the Mets vs Cardinals at CitiField next Wedmesday afternoon,August 5,looking for the Mets to put a hurt to the Birdnals....though seeing Matt Holliday in his first game with the Cards have his way with the Phillies Friday night warmed the cockles of my heart!

It is my biggest nightmare right now. they rejected Toronto’s most recent proposal as they are unwilling to part with either prospect Kyle Drabeck or AJ Happ. But I won't sllep well till the trade deadline come and goes and Roy is not a Phillie

Seriously, we were those guys playing in last night’s game? They were wearing Mets uniforms and kinda looked like our guys but they were getting hits, running bases scoring rums. I mean WHO WERE THSES GUYS>??? :D
Actually it started on Friday and although we lost the Mets played good crisp baseball. We left to many guys stranded and made a few mistakes but it was a turn around which really exploded last night.
:=D:

PHILLIES beat Cardinals.

So sorry ABS  NOT

Ugh. I think I hate the Phillies even more now :p

WTF Wellemeyer??? GOD YOU SUCK!!! We need to find a replacement for him. I mean for chrissake, if all he's gonna throw is hanging breaking balls right over the goddamned center of the plate, put ME out there!!!

:grrr:

Oh that and this laser pointer bs occurred on four separate players  (nothing against you Scrubby!)

I love it when sonny gets all atwitter!:DAnd today.....two great wins in a row!Offense, clutch pitching...hell,we're even getting defensive gems sprinkled in!Whoever these guys are, let's not EVER see the ones they took over from return!:gogirl:Is it another tease or the start of an effort to say this race the hell ain't over!Well,at least the wild card.....someone(cough...cough....the Cardinals ...got the Phillies all better from their little slump, unfortunately):grrr:

Scrub is happy again....for now!:p

I swear,Cards are doing a good impersonation of the Mets el foldos of the previous two seasons....getting their clocks cleaned the past two games!:##:

Methinks they celebrated their pennant "Holliday" a wee bit early!;)Cubs have won four straight.....hmm,maybe they can be of some use during this pennant stretch!:p
