Holy crap. I cannot believe how late I have been in creating this thread. FAIL on my part! I apologize to those (you know who you are ;) ) who have been waiting for a baseball thread for the 2009 season!

Everyone is welcome to post in this thread - whether a baseball fanatic or just one who enjoys watching the game. Or anything in between. I know there are several people here who enjoy the sports forum we fought for, to return after the last reorganization, so don't fail me now :D

There are 25 days left until the Cardinals opening day. I know Spring Training has been in full force, and it's been fun to watch the Birds beat the shit outta the Mets during that time :p

Is everyone else as excited about baseball starting as I am??? :D

Don't hesitate to jump right in and discuss! Baseball is almost upon us! ..|

Great to have this thread back for '09.
But Abs my dear friend, the Birds did not beat the Mets.
Think about it, 16 regular Mets players have gone to the WBS leaving behind all the minor players to hold down the fort. So it's hardly apples amd apples here. Those big bad Birds beat up on a bunch of kids trying to make the team and show what they got. The Birds DID NOT beat up on the regular Mets.

It has been fun thouigh watching those kids scrap and try and make them selves seen and heard. I love that, I mean who would not want to be there with em.

So once again I must take you to task for your comment about my Mets,
so drop trou sweetie cause here it comes. :spank::spank:

Love ya Cory (*8*)

What sonny said!;)

Well, I only got to watch a bit of the Cards/Tigers spring training game today.

We looked pretty good! Even though we blew a 4-1 lead after the 2nd inning, I was impressed by what Kahlil Green was doing. I mean hitting above .400 in ST? Please let that transfer over to the regular season! Even though the Birdnals lost...

I cannot wait for the regular season to start :) I'm hoping the Mets/Red Sox fans will continue to post here? ;)

Once ST is done, it's on. Bitches.

Don't expect much babe, the guys here read the sports threads but very very few ever post in em.
We get hits so I know people are reading them but for for some reason few ever contribute.
A little frustrating sometimes.

I kept my Mets thread going all winter and it was read but guys hardly ever contributed.

I will never understand why so many JUBers never write anything, not just in sports but anywhere else. Makes no sense not to want to join in on the fun.

I'm here, sonny! And yes,I'm very excited over the new season.(!)

I'm really happy to see Chipper Jones extended for three years, with the possibility of an option year in 2013 to end his career with the Braves. As much grief we Mets fans give this guy....he's always been a true professional and most worthy adversary. He loved the give and take with Mets fans....and named one of his sons after Shea Stadium, and bought some momentos from Shea before it was torn down.A great player and guy who I'm happy to see will be a lifetime Brave.

Can't wait til Friday and the Mets/Red Sox two game exhibition that will be the unofficial Citi Field opener of the season. It should be real fun!

I am glad you wrote that, I always considerd Chipper to be a class act. Even when the Braves were the Mets biggest enemies, Chipper always said great things aboiut playing in NY and the fans.
Speaking of the Braves, do you feal as I do that they are going to make a come back this year and give the Phillies fits and fight it out for second place behind the Mets.? :p

Mon, Apr 6 @ Florida 4:10 PM - 1st game for the Nats...
Lets go Nats... :gogirl:

Your a Nats fan???
Oh you poor baby ;) (*8*)

I am confident that my favorite team will not finish in third place in the AL East this season as they did last season and I am equally confident that my hometown team will once again finish in last place in the NL East.

Good luck to everyone's favorite team.

/QUOTE]Chipper and his interactions with the Mets fans makes things fun!

I have read about the Braves resurgent farm system and it does worry me a bit.Not immediately necessarily....the players have to learn and grow and who knows if they will live up to the hype. But the Mets CANNOT rest on their laurels having earned no playoff appearances the past two seasons and the Phillies will remain tough.I have faith we have enough on the major league roster and on the farm to remain competitive for the forseeable future. But I don't dismiss Atlanta at all and the Mets I'm certain will not either. The mark of a championship team is one that will never stop trying to get better, and the Mets haven't even proven themselves good enough to be a championship team to assume anything but the need to go at it 100% to give the Mets fans something to be proud of.

It's really impressive and gorgeous...has everything and more you could imagine in a baseball stadium.I really respect the players and tradition but I can't really feel good rooting for the Yanks because the club has taken so much from the txpayer in largely funding the stadium with interest fee loans, keep coming back for more and dors shit for the average fan.Luxury boxes, high cost of most seats and concesssions are a ripoff. No break for the little guy except a few crumbs thrown here and there. In these tough economic times, the Yanks may have their best of everything cathedral.....but risk losing the hearts of many New York area fans who will be much harder pressed to go see their Yanks play.

Though rooting for Boston, while similarly respecting their talent and the way they play isn't an option for geographic loyalty reasons. They are staying in a somewhat renovated Fenway though and not looking to milk the taxpayers and loyal average fans so that is something to consider.

Don't sell the Nats short, flyingfree. It's early....everyone has a right to dream and they could surprise.

Lets go Nats.......

additions
1B/OF Adam Dunn,
OF Josh Willingham,
LHP Scott Olsen,
Well,I'll say "Let's go Mets"Gumby!:p
I hope they are decent this year,at least fun to watch and competitive.

Washington baseball fans deserve at least that much!;)

Well I sure hope you guys understood I was jus teasin about the Nats.
This year they won't have Bush trowin out the first ball, so that alone should give them an edge up.
I hate to see any team play poorly, for the players and the fans it just plain sucks.
Remember how bad the Marlins where and then outta nowhere they were a force to be reckoned with. I would love a great drag down punch em out fight to the finish with all the teams in the NL east. Watching the Nats and the Mets slug it out would be outstanding, Watch out for those Braves, they have got their pitching act together again, even Glavin.
I jus want the Phillies to end up in last place. :p
Oops, that outta bring some comment from we all know who.:wave:

As for the Yankees, a subway series played in two new parks would be a dream come true. I would be in pig heaven for sure :D

ZOMG Opening Day is Monday!!!

"I'm Lizzing!!!!"

:rotflmao:

For King Gumby, I think the Nats may surprise a few people, I like the lineup and starting pitching. Some real young guns on the mound. The bullpen may be a weak area, but they should win their share of games, hopefully none against the METS, however. Let's go METS!!

LHP Scott Olsen,
Perhaps the best addition is in the TV booth. Rod Dibble is doing the color commentary and he is worth listening to. Unlike Don Sutton, Dibble is known as a guy who is not the least bit afraid to call it like he sees it.

The Nats are in a very tough division and they have to play 4 better teams 19 times each. If they win 70 games this season it will be a huge improvement (+11) over last year.

With Dunn, Milledge and Kearns in the OF the odd men out are Willingham and Dukes. Actually, the odd man out is ex-GM Jim Bowden and that may be a good thing for the Nats.

The Phillies open the season tonight.

April has never been a good month for the Phils. :(

Let's see if they can start off on the right foot. :)

It is so freaking cold/windy/shitty here that the Cardinals are contemplating asking MLB for a double header on Tuesday.

I think I just got hard...!oops!

Tuesday expected to be that much better?I think cold air even deflates baseball induced hard ons!:p

Tomorrow is supposed to possibly have thunderstorms in our area....Yanks opening at home and they are going to get pretty unsettled, chilly, clammy typical April weather for the first half of the week at least.Don't really give two shits about them.....at least the Mets have a week for the weather to get a little more cooperative opening Monday April 13.

I hope you saw pics of the new CitiField.....wow,what a difference from Shea in so many ways. The nooks and crannies of the outfield configurations look like there will be some very interesting quirks at Shea....the outfield wall dimensions are complex and enticing, rising and lowering in 7 separate places.Plays a little bigger than Shea, known already as a pitcher's park. The new concessions are truly a huge upgrade and the magnificent Jackie Robinson Rotunda will be a must destination for any true baseball fan.Should be fun when Mets play San Diego in the opening series.Mets fans have a park to finally crow about!:gogirl:
