The Official 2009 MLB Thread!

Detroit Tigers is my hometeam. They are now the 2009 version of the 2007 New York Mets.

Shameful!

I think New York Yankees will win the pennant in the AL.

With ties to Colorado, I'll root for Colorado Rockies to win the pennant in the NL. (My initial feeling is that the league's Championship Series will be won by Los Angeles Dodgers. I'm not confident with this.)

All in all, I look forward to the MLB 2009 season, as a whole (regular and post season), being over.
Me and sonny know the feeling all too well, helplessly seeing our Mets collapse so unbelievably in 2O07 and having a bit less dramatic but still painful slide at the end of 2008.Sorry for you guys in Tigers land!(*8*)

Try as I may to despise the Yankees because of their almost bottomless wallets and even more disheartening contempt for the average fan with the new stadium/palace....with homegrown pros like Derek Jeter,Jorge Posada,Andy Petitte,Melky Cabrera,Robinson Can and Mariano Rivera and new acquisitions Mark Teixeira,CC Sabathia, and hustling, always gregarious and likable Nick Swisher among others it's impossible.

Really respect the Rockies but if the Yanks don't make the WS I'm a Cards fan, mainly because if I root against them Abs will do many horrible things to me!

:p

Seriously, just let it be the Phillies don't take it all again!:mad:I liked the Cards since the Willie McGee/Tommy Herr/Keith Hernandez/Ken Oberkfell days and always loved watching Ozzie Smith play, and Vince Coleman before he became an ass when he joined the Mets!Sorry,Scrub....you know I love ya!;)

I hope your nuts hurt, Matt Holliday. We should have won.

Three in a row, that's tough. But I'll still die a Cards fan! :D

Abs, this was not supposed to happen.
Carpenter sure picked the wrong game to get his ass kicked.
Wainwright got fucked after keeping the Dodgers in line for eight innings, to get beat by two unearned runs in the bottom of the ninth off Franklin. FUCK!
I feel your pain over Matt Holliday and Loney’s liner with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning.
How are the Cardinals barely hanging on after Wainwright, Miller, and Franklin had combined to shut down the Dodgers for most of the game.

THat certainly was a disaster for the Cards after the error by Holliday, then Franklin couldn't put Casey away, he kept fouling off pitches. I see the Phils have selected Pedro to go in game 3 in the cold/snow? of Denver, I'm not sure that's a wise choice. Will just wait and see....

 [-X Sausy

ABS :(

not really ABS

GO PHILLIES
Just can't help it,Scrub!!oops!Respect is one thing....but as a team,it would be like rooting for Atlanta back in the ole days of their rivalry with the Mets.Just can't do it!

But I luvs Scrub!

It was a tough break last night for the Cards....loking like they would tie the series 1-1 and now have their work cut out for them.

I tell you though...I know Matt Holliday lost the ball in the lights, but still an opposition rally started by taking a ball off the groin is even something the Mets never managed to accomplish....all the ways they broke their fans hearts.Maybe a sign Holliday would make a great fit in the Mets outfield next year!:pWainwright was terrific...sorry Abs but it's still not out of the question the Cards rebound and take the next three, difficult as it might be.

Oh,and Scrub.....GO ROCKIES!!!(can't post any more smiliies,so imagine several dancing bananas and a couple of you go,girls!)

^ Thanks :)

I'm gonna go off on a tangent...

WHERE THE FUCK WAS OUR OFFENSE?!? Why in the hell were we 4 for a billion with RISP??? I don't even give a shit about the Matt Holliday error in game 2 - there were PLENTY of other opportunities to close out the game - i.e., Ryan Franklin getting paid millions of dollars a year to get three fucking outs! I mean seriously. Jason Isringhausen 2.0 ....

After game 1, I had a weird feeling in the pit of my stomach. The way we looked on the field and at the plate just weren't the same Cardinals I watched all season. They looked sloppy, or tired, or...something. Like they didn't give a shit about the postseason. Cemented in games 2 and 3.

Albert - you're a baseball god, but wtf. Holliday - get the fucking bat off your shoulders. SWING AT SOMETHING when the bases are loaded with no outs!

Ugh. There is so many things I could keep bitching about. I think I need a shot.

I am so sad for all the Cards and their fans, especially of course my boy Abs, who I know is both devastated and angry. Cory, your team had a great year nothing to feel embarrassed about.

What happened was hard to take, the team played excellent baseball all year and to have it come down to three games and have it all come crashing down is difficult to comprehend. Abs you are right about Holliday cause many more like Pujolis went into comas and contributed so little. That’s what is so hard to except, how could they let that happen? Where they interviewing for a Mets position?
Seriously, I feel really bad about how this came down, I went out so I only saw the first 7 innings but when I got home last night, even though I knew they lost, I watched the last two innings. I t was heartbreaking to watch the guys in the dugout so down and out, the fans were shown looking all dazed and confused and a look of WTF just happened on their faces. But what I felt good about was that even in the last inning with so little hope, the fans would cheer every good at bat and wave their towels in support, that is what real fans do, I loved seeing that. I clicked it off as soon as the last out was made, no way I was gonna watch the Dodgers celebrate on the field at Busch.

So the Cards like the Mets will clean out their lockers, work on their game over the winter and come back hungrier than ever to win in 2010. Abs, maybe next year the Cards and the Mets will be in the post season together and we will sure enjoy that.

Feel better Cory and remember in 2010 ya gotta believe.

Jezz two more teams bit the dust yesterday

First it was St Louis to get swept then yesterday Boston and Minnesota both ate it.
How does that happen, three of the best getting creamed in just three games.
Sad for the teams and their fans after all those hopes go up in smoke so fast.
The dreaded Phillies won yesterday and lead their series 2-1. Now the Rockies have their wok cut out for em and have to win the next two in order to continue. The Phillies could end the Rockies dream in the next game.

So this week we have the Angels playing the Yankees, The Dodgers will have either the Phillies or the Rockies.
I would love a Dodgers/Yankees World Series. Imagine watching Torre cut down his old Yankee
team, it should be great fun to watch.

Sorry Brad, guess you and Abs can console one another. Scrub, behave, it ain’t over for the Rockies yet ;)

Wow, what a great game last night. A real nail biter up to the end, but

GO PHILLIES(!) (!) (!)

I loved that leap frog in the 8th :D
The Rockies sure made it exciting coming back in the 8th buit then in the 9th ](*,)

Oh well, I guess I will just have to hope the Dodgers give em a good spanking ;)

It is my fervent hope, that if there is a God and he happens to be a baseball fan,
he's not a Phillies fanatic. But after tonight's 8-6 shellacking of the Dodgers it doesn't look promising on that front.:(

Hey,at least Scrub's happy!;)

Sausy, if there is a god, He must be a baseball fan.

No god could create such a pastime and not be a fervent supporter.....

So lemme get this straight, Torre watched as Kershaw gave up a three-run homer, walked three batters, and tossed three wild pitches, and has runners on the corners.
The Phillies clown coming up to the plate drove in like 140 runs in the regular season.
And Joe leaves him in??? with one of the best bullpen in baseball??? With a reliever ready in the bullpen???.
Joe did not see the writing on the wall after Kershaw walked Hamels on four pitches and everyone but Joe saw that Kershaw had lost all focus??
Oh I see, Joe needed to be sure het that kid would not loose confidence. HUH???
I don’t watch a lot of Dodger games but it seems to me Torre likes to overuse his bullpen, but not in last night’s important game???
Now I know it was Raul Ibanez’s eighth inning three-run home run that closed the door on the Dodgers but wasn’t it Torre leaving that pitcher in the game the real fuck up here?

They also stranded a ton of runners

Good GOD!!

I love watching the Phillies lose the way they did yesterday. Utley’s TWO messed up double play balls…priceless.
Bases loaded walk to bring home the go ahead run…also priceless.
The look on Charlie Manuals face when that happened…sooo priceless.
Watching Manuals wearing out a path from the dugout to the mound.. yup, priceless.

I have to mention Pedro’s outstanding performance, were you watching Omar?

On the ugly side was Manny’s bases loaded first pitch pop up, thank goodness we did not need that insurance hit, and of course leaving the bases loaded in the 8th sucked as well.

Yankees had a game, CC was outstanding,

One step closer to a Yankees/Dodgers World series
