Beyonce Gives Birth To a Baby Girl

Beyonce Knowles and Shawn " Jay-Z" Carter, two of America's biggest musical artists, have welcomed their first child together.

The 30-year-old pop singer gave birth to a baby girl late last night (Jan. 7) in NYC, according to The Houston Chronicle. According to reports, the baby girl's name is Ivy Blue Carter; E! Online News writes that the name is Blue Ivy Carter, although #ivyblue became a worldwide trending topic on Twitter immediately after the news broke. E! also reports that, although "the couple's reps have not immediately responded to calls seeking comment," the proud dad is telling his friends the name of their baby girl.
Rumors that Beyonce and Jay-Z were ready to welcome their first child swarmed the Internet on Wednesday, Dec. 28, after reports ran that a celebrity patient was about to check in at St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital in New York.

According to MediaTakeOut, a "celebrity VIP" had reserved half of the labor and delivery floor at the hospital on Wednesday. Beyonce's pal Alicia Keys reportedly gave birth to her first son, Egypt, at the same hospital last year.
Beyonce announced her pregnancy on Aug. 28 on the red carpet at the MTV Video Music Awards, hours before performing her joyful single, "Love on Top." The announcement came exactly two months after the release of "4," Beyonce's fourth solo album, which has sold 1.04 million copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Earlier that month, Jay-Z released "Watch The Throne," a collaborative album with Kanye West.

Following the pregnancy announcement, Beyonce released a series of music videos supporting "4," including clips for "Countdown," "Party" and "Love on Top," as well as a DVD showcasing her four performances at New York's Roseland Ballroom in August. Jay-Z and Beyonce were originally believed to be expecting their first child in February 2012, but a behind-the-scenes clip from the "Countdown" video shoot in September suggests that Beyonce was six months pregnant at the time of filming, and that the couple was expecting a December arrival.

The best-selling rapper and former Destiny's Child leader began dating in 2002, and have collaborated on hit singles like "Crazy in Love," "'03 Bonnie and Clyde" and "Deja Vu." The couple married in April 2008.

Beyonce becomes the subject of a US university course

Students can study 'Politicising Beyonce' in the Women's and Gender Studies department at Rutgers University

Throughout the course of Beyonce Knowles' illustrious career of achievements the singer has been labeled as one of today's most popular sex symbols, however her latest acknowledgement comes from the likes of a Rutgers University PH.D. student.

As part of the institution's Department of Women's and Gender Studies, doctoral student and lecturer, Kevin Allred currently teaches a course, "Politicizing Beyonce," in which he examines the singer's lyrics and videos in comparison to the writings of Alice Walker and Sojourner Truth.

"This isn't a course about Beyonce's political engagement or how many times she performed during President Obama's inauguration weekend," Allred explained via the school's news site. "She certainly pushes boundaries. While other artists are simply releasing music, she's creating a grand narrative around her life, her career, and her persona."

Allred was inspired to lecture the course following his four semesters as a Women's Studies 101 instructor where he often found his class debating whether or not the Pop star is a role model for today's youth. According to the site, course topics include the extent of Beyonce's control over her own aesthetic, whether her often half-naked body is empowered or stereotypical, and her more racy performances as her alter ego, "Sasha Fierce."

Though the classroom discussions are not solely limited to Knowles' image and music, other notable vocalists such as Billie Holiday, Nina Simone, and Lady Gaga are also analyzed through their social impact on society.

"It's important to shift students away from simply being consumers of media toward thinking more critically about what they're engaging on a regular basis," Allred added. "When students don't respond to theory or dense readings, it's often easier to see things play out in the world around them."

In addition to the international superstar's career being the focus of a college classroom, her husband, Shawn "Jay-Z" Carter is also the topic of a Sociology Course at Georgetown University.

That baby is a Knowles all day and night. She looks like her grandmother to me. I guess people will stop saying its not their child when they see the photos.

Beyonce Question::

Why isn't Beyonce's "Love on Top" video playing on MTV/VH1 and wasn't released on iTunes????

Re: Is Beyonce faking her pregnancy?

Her sister was named Solange. They like peculiar names in the Knowles family. Something to do with being part Louisiana Creole.

Solange is a French name but Wiki tells me Beyonce is made up.

Wiki also tells me that Solange looks radically different from Beyonce.
