watched random 5 minutes--there was a handsome construction worker who sang and she was all moving around in her seat getting wet over him and wanting to kiss him---when they brought his gf on Perry ran off the stage embarrassed---she's aggressively hitting on hot guys which is really fucking strange during the time of the #metoo movement.

what's the takeaway? if you are a woman with power you can hit on a sexy guy but it's taboo if the other way around?

It is a shame when intimacy is just a cheap gag....but she didn't really force him, unless he thought she still has some kind of power over him.

The problem is..this is EXACTLY how alot of women brought the men down. They cited "positions of power" which of course a judge who can make or break you is....and alot of them had no physical contact at all.....but god forbid one of them grabbed a woman and kissed her....

I do think alot of stuff is staged absolutely...but if they did, in fact, stage it..and they have Ryan Seacrest of all people now hosting the show...surely they must have heard about the new criteria for sexual assault/harassment?.....or maybe they are dense?...or didn't think the same rules applied to women?...or maybe don't care if they still employ Seacrest?

My personal opinion of the kiss is that it is a complete non issue....I think his assertions are ridiculous...just as I think alot of the things now passing for sexual harassment are bullshit....

I didn't want to seem "too old" because I really never heard her sing or even know what she sings....

My last firm encounter with Top 40 Music was Lauryn Hill and Sade....they are "new artists" still in my mind:rotflmao:. I switched to smooth jazz stations a long time ago. Aside from a few artists and songs that stick out here and there..I have pretty much missed most of the past 20 years at least...I did check in here and there in the 90s....but mostly in the dance music department...

I even watch SNL but I skip the music guests mostly....I don't usually like them if I forget to hit the volume or channel changer...and I can FF when I watch it on HULU:lol:

This is why I watched the video, because it sounded like a non-issue and there is too much "sexual harassment" accusations thrown around when that's not what was really going on at all. We live in a society now where everyone needs to be a victim of something.

My reply not really on topic, but you brought up some interesting points.

Yes, for me even the B-52's, The Cars, etc. are more-or-less "new" artists...and I don't even KNOW much about some such as Celine Dion.

My roommate showed me some fun 90s dance music the other day; have you heard of Pizzicato Five? "Twiggy Twiggy" is a hoot.

Yeah, there's live music on TV (or YouTube, DVD, various media)...and then there's live music IN PERSON. I almost entirely eschew live music that comes to me via media, but can heartily enjoy and embrace precisely the same live performances if I'm there in person.

One notable recent exception was the Grateful Dead reunion (such as was possible) last year that I watched at an attic party in Michigan on live TV; now THAT was definitely a marvelous show. But, again, it was a SHARED EXPERIENCE, just as a live concert is when going there in person.

I just heard a "brand new" cut from Prima Donna the other night that I liked, too - but first one has to find a source that actually plays "the cool stuff" instead of the big hits which are often swill.

Kidding aside, Katy Perry is a very talented tunesmith. She, Sia and Ryan Tedder write a surprising number of the pop songs that are on the charts today.

She's also beautiful and she works on coming across as "likeable".

She also played a part in bringing us nude pictures of Orlando Bloom.

Her latest album sucks and it's a rare misstep in a pretty impressive career. And she's also overexposed with judging in addition to everything else she's doing.
