Re: Mariah "I'll Be Lovin' You Long Time" FLOP?!

"I'll Be Lovin' You Long Time" is my favorite song from the album and it really deserved to be a bigger hit. But the conditions just weren't right I guess. "Touch My Body" was obviously a good choice for a first single as it did pretty darn well. But they really screwed up by slowing things down and releasing "Bye, Bye" as a second single. After that interest in E=MC2 evaporated, probably mainly because Mariah wasn't getting any airplay. And these days most people tend to only listen to what's on the radio all day long. Listeners are bombarded by Rihanna so they go buy her music (which is why I'm not the least bit impressed when she or other overexposed singers sell albums by the bucketloads). I don't even hear Mariah on the radio any more.

Anyway, "Lovin'..." is an extremely inspired track and doesn't quite sound like any other song Mariah has ever recorded, which I honestly can't say for the rest of the album, even though I liked it.

I was going to say the same thing, but you beat me. Bye Bye as the second single just ruined her. I am not even sure she could have recovered after that poorly timed single choice.

Re: Brandon Will Be Lovin' Mariah Long Time!

No, what he should do is gather all of Christina Aguilara's albums including her latest greatest hits travesty and take a hard dump on them. Now THAT would be appropriate. Be even more so if he threw Britney's "Circus" in there as well.

That would be nice to watch as well...indeed!

Re: Mariah "I'll Be Lovin' You Long Time" FLOP?!

^^ Exactly. Touch My Body hit #1 and then releasing Bye Bye ruined the momentum of her singles from this album. IBLYLT could have done better as it wasn't a bad song, but the reaction to it wasn't great.

I Stay In Love is a nice song and it's slowly gaining radio play right now. Pop radio isn't touching it, but Urban and Rhythmic stations are giving it love. :)

Re: Mariah "I'll Be Lovin' You Long Time" FLOP?!

Bye Bye definatley was bye bye to a hit album..ppl lost interest in it after bye bye came out..

Re: Mariah "I'll Be Lovin' You Long Time" FLOP?!

For The Record is another great song from her album.

Re: Mariah "I'll Be Lovin' You Long Time" FLOP?!

Ye i liked that song too.
My fav though is an old skool one by her called The Roof ft.Mobb Deep.

I love that song too. My favourite Mariah song is either Fantasy or I Feel It, she works best over a sample ;)

I dont know, Mariah needs an image update, shes looking a bit stale, and fuck me has her video budget been cut, the Bye Bye video looked like it was done on the cheap for an Xfactor/American Idol winner and IBLULT looked like one of those tourist adverts for countries with offcuts of Mariah shoved in. Mind you I suppose after the Emancipation of Mimi, the bar has been set pretty high, so she really has to sell masses for the album to be considered a "success"

Re: Mariah "I'll Be Lovin' You Long Time" FLOP?!

It's sad when there's an album with SO MANY potential #1 songs, and they choose all of the WRONG ones. Touch My Body was brilliant as a lead single, but IF they wanted to go with the slow-tempo follow-up, they should have gone with I Stay In Love. The album as a whole is fantastic, but, someone got distracted by dick, aka Nick Cannon, and seemed to not care what songs were released. The single SHOULD have been something like this:

Touch My Body
I Stay In Love
Migrateor IBLULT
Side Effects/I'm That Chick (Overseas)
For The Record or Bye Bye

I'm That Chick would've been the worst choice of any single from the album. The song, while catchy and upbeat, just...wouldn't work. I wouldn't want to hear it on the radio. And I can imagine it'd only be popular in a gay club, so that all the femmes can scream about them being that chick you like while that straight guy you were singing the song to was smokin bowls at home...

Anywho, that's just my opinion.

Re: Mariah "I'll Be Lovin' You Long Time" FLOP?!

I thought E=MC2 was a great album. But what killed it was 'Bye Bye'. Love the song but it should not have been the next single. I think 'IBLYLT' should have been the second. Then, 'ISIL'. She could have had a good 5 or 6 hit singles off this album.

Re: Mariah "I'll Be Lovin' You Long Time" FLOP?!

If you look at the timing, Bye Bye would have been fine for a single, but not over Spring Break/Summer.
I'm That Chick would have been massive overseas, since they seem to be big on the dance genre. Migrate seems to be the one everyone was itching to have released, but I fail to see how it would've done well on any format other than Urban and Rhythmic. That's when you release another song. They should have done an I Stay In Love for Mainstream, and Migrate for the rest. UGH. Sometimes I think the FANS should be in charge lol...then again, I'm That Chick would have been the first single...and the album would be another Glitter, in that case.

You know, I wonder sometimes, was Glitter before it's time? If she released that album after the Emancipation of Mimi, would it have been more successful? There's an interesting thought! I think it could have been massive! Not more than Emancipation, but close.

Re: Mariah "I'll Be Lovin' You Long Time" FLOP?!

^You are right on two points: the fans should be running these record labels (well, just let me run the careers of Mariah Carey, Leona Lewis, Jennifer Hudson and Fantasia) and Glitter could have been huge.

It was just a victim of the time.

Re: Mariah "I'll Be Lovin' You Long Time" FLOP?!

Ill Be Lovin U Long Time is my favorite song from e=mc^2. I fell in love with it the first time i heard it when her album leaked right before the album came out and i wanted to get it so bad. it is the most recent mariah classic (at least for the mc fan). i thought it was a great choice for a summer anthem, but somewhere between lovin u long time and touch my body, bye bye was released. personally i dont really care for that song, however i dont think that it was a bad song choice, it gave her another top 20 song which isnt terrible, but it did kill the momentum. i was so irritated that lovin u long time got stuck somewhere around the 50s on the charts. i also NEVER heard it on the radio until just last weekend.

then came I Stay in Love which i think will not do anything for her. i dont understand why she didnt release Im That Chick since she performed it multiple times on different shows. it probably wouldnt have done much better either way.

all in all, imo it wasnt just bye bye that killed the momentum, there were multiple factors involved and probably bad timing in general. she was probably too caught up in her marriage to care. it seemed like there could have been many combos of singles and there was talk about migrate, im that chick, side effects, and love story--she didnt have a solid lineup of hits. the album altogether isnt as mainstream so i wouldnt be surprised if any of her songs were hits or flops. with r&b music sucking and pop music becoming influenced by dance hits from people like rihanna, chris brown, and beyonce, lets face it, that is not what mariah is known for, so i wouldnt be surprised if her time is up (i would rather have her quit right now than see her attempt a more hip hop or dance influenced album). also the industry is so shitty right now, its reflected in the success of the album.

maybe she should just end it with e=mc^2 to take some time out before starting her next project. i would like to see what For the Record does as the final single though ;)

Re: Mariah "I'll Be Lovin' You Long Time" FLOP?!

The thing is that the songs the fans want, like Love Story and I'm That Chick...they just don't fit radio. I've worked in radio for nearly 9 years and those songs just wouldn't have cut it. If you leave those two alone, just PICK a song, and it would have been better as a 2nd choice for a single lol.

The goddess Mariah's songs never fail. Some do not become pop culture phenoms, but they are not failures.

No it's just you. Miss Daneesha never acknowledges or admits his deranged delusions of grandeur. And besides this is a thread devoted to an actual female vocalist who got famous for her extraordinary pipes and not her youthful girlish figure.

oh your right how silly of me! I forgot how talent matters to some people ](*,)](*,)](*,)

Very true. What's sad is seeing how much things changed, and overturned, since then...

Re: Mariah "I'll Be Lovin' You Long Time" FLOP?!

Mariah is just one of the best vocalist of all time problly ...

And i really like her song... now even if i think she 's just really talented... i can get into her song anymore..
