Technically, Glitter is a soundtrack album, but it's considered a Mariah album. It's kind of like The Bodyguard Soundtrack by Whitney Houston. They album sales count (30,000,000 to WhitWhit).
I say Charmbracelet. Every album has pros & cons to them, but Charmbracelet has the least amount of pros. At least Glitter has Loverboy & Last Night A DJ Saved My Life.

I'm going to say that Rainbow was the worst. I've got all of her CDs and I've enjoyed that one the least of them all. Unlike most on here, I actually liked Charmbracelet and thought it was very underrated. Glitter is just above Rainbow to me. I do love the track "Never Too Far" from the Glitter CD. Love the original Mariah Carey CD from 1990. She's currently working on an album now and I truly hope she knocks one out of the ballpark. I would love to see it go 6 or 7 times platinum, which is highly unlikely, but still my hope. Also would love to see her tone down the rap collaborations and get 2 or 3 more #1 singles. I fell in love with the original Mariah in '90. That's the Mariah I'll always love.

The worst CD is probably Charmbracelet. I love Mariah, but that damn whispering she did was ridiculous. And she did it on every song. Bringin' on the Heartbreak, Clown, Yours and Boy I Need You would have been good if she didn't whisper and actually sang. My favorite songs on the album are My Saving Grace, You Got Me, and I Only Wanted (and even those were almost fucked up with her whispering). I seriously wonder if she is embarrassed now when she listens to that CD. Some of the material was good, but the delivery was horrendous.
Glitter was not bad. If We is one of my favorite Mariah songs. I am pissed that she didn't release it as a single (but I think it had something to do with J Lo ripping off the idea to do a duet with Ja Rule, when Tommy Matolla heard the album and had J Lo copy shit from it before Mariah could release it, but whatever) Lead the Way and Last Night a DJ Saved my Life were good, too.
The worst promotion of an album, by far, was E=MC 2. I think that album is great. Why Migrate was not released as a single is beyond me. The album has a bunch of hot songs, among them Cruise Control, Touch my Body, Side Effects.
Butterfly is one of her best, too. And I am still pissed that The Roof (and Breakdown, for that matter) was not released as a single.

Breakdown was never released as a single. A video was done for it (and a video was also done for The Roof, but that was also not a single) but it never showed up on the Billboard Charts b/c it was not eligible. These were the days when album cuts were not permitted to be on the Hot 100 Charts either, so you had a bunch of songs that were played on the radio, but they were not on the Billboard charts b/c they were not sold as singles. Thankfully, Billboard has done away with that b/c these days nobody buys or releases singles anymore.
I remember Breakdown being played on Hot 97 here in NY cause it was hot and when My All was released as a single, in addition to the My All remixes (like the My All/Stay Awhile club mix and the David Morales dance mix) the B side of the single was the album version of Breakdown. Frankly, I think that's why My All went to #1-- b/c it had high sales numbers b/c a lot of people bought the My All single just b/c Breakdown was on the B side.
I also think Butterfly was poorly promoted. The paranoid side of me thinks Tommy Matolla had something to do with it b/c he was the pres of her record company and it was the first CD she released since the divorce. I still remember the Honey video where Mariah played a chick who was held captive in a mansion before breaking free, as a dig to Tommy. I dunno which one to choose. For me there are 3 potential worst albums: Emotions for its sophomore slump; Rainbow for its step down from Butterfly but it's the first Mariah studio album I bought; Glitter for its imbalance between ballads and uptempo hiphop songs.
I also dont consider Glitter a soundtrack cuz it doesnt say so on the CD. A concept album maybe, not a soundtrack.

It was released as a double A-side with My All in US, by itself in Australia. I assume the reason why it never showed up on Billboard is because it didn't get flipped.
